HD Graphics 4400 is 20-30 %% better than HD 4000
HD Graphics 5000 is 50% better
Iris 5100 is 125% better and
Iris Pro 5200 is 150% better and it has addition ram cache of 128MB

Where do those figures come from? If they're from Intel's charts, they're most likely exaggerated. The Macbook Air reviews showed graphics performance about 20% better, and that had the HD 5000. I'd love to be corrected here though.

Like many of you guys I'm waiting for haswell macbooks and working on Early 2011 17'' macbook. Still with hdd - but no reason to change to ssd for 2 months, right? ;)

And I just realized, one of the reasons I want retina is ability to handle internal display + 2 (or 3?) external displays.
And if haswell mbp would have only graphic - how this would affect ability to connecting external displays? Anyone?

You're right these are all Intel's claims on 3Dmark11 benchmarks.

The road to iGPU only in the 15" with the least backlash is probably:

Haswell with Iris Pro + 650m + 1GB VRAM.

Broadwell with pro iGPU and no dGPU.

That way Haswell rMBPs won't be "underpowered" for gaming and Intel's Broadwell iGPU will probably be a lot faster then the 650m so that rMBP will be more powerful then the previous generation.

I don't think it is going to happen, but it seems to be the only way to satisfy a lot of people in this thread. Not that Apple cares.

Must we constantly keep the 650M card with us forever? Lol the thing is from 2012, and we're almost is 2014. Anyway yeah that would more than satisfy people but that's redundant if they're around the same performance. I think definitely broadwell only iGPU would be fine. But Iris Pro is a little sketch, cus some people feel like it's almost there (in performance), but not quite

I used to write CAD software and I'm confident -- confident enough to bet a finger -- that AutoCAD will run faster on a Haswell rMBP than on an Ivy Bridge rMBP with the same clock speed and number of cores, same amount of RAM, etc.

I'm hoping that Apple will drop the discrete GPU from the 15" rMBP and introduce a 17" rMBP with a discrete GPU faster than the 650M.

Good luck with running AutoCAD on a MAC, the MAC version is missing so many things the PC version has it's not even funny. Yes it runs smooth, but without proper rendering support and some missing tools. I was really surprised they get away with selling it as a "full version" for MAC. Way to go Autodesk!

i currently have a 2008 unibody macbook. Looking to upgrade. Should I jump onto a new current gen macbook pro? I can get at best buy right now with student discount for 945 for 13". Trying to determine what I should do.

Are you talking about the cMBP 13" or the rMBP?
Cos the current rMBP 13" is a bad buy for sure.

945 is a good deal (obviously, because you're using the student discount) for the non-retina 13" mbp. If you want the newer one, with significantly upgraded graphics, a retina screen, and slimmer/lighter form factor, you'll want to wait until October, and it'll be about $400 more.

was talking cMBP. I still have yet to see a side by side comparison of retina vs non retina on the macbooks to know if a rMBP is worth it. I like to be able to upgrade my ram and what not as well as i want to.

I had bought a new 13" MBA (2012 model) for $550 at best buy but I needed more space than 128 with all my video/pictures so I sold it for $800.

Just trying to determine what I should buy now.

Will the price point of the haswell be more or less thesame as the retina macbook pro now?

No one knows.
But its doubtful it will be as cheap as it is now with all the BTS promotions and stuff going on.
But it could be.

much do you think I would lose by buying the 15" $1599 refurb now and then upgrading to haswell once it's released (assuming $1999 with education discount)?

not factoring time and hassel..ebay fees and approximate shipping, and slight devaluation...I'll take a stab at saying anywhere between $350 to $500?

I don't know anything about these Haswell processors. Is it likely that the 13" will get a quad core, or is that just wishful thinking? More generally, though, what's the real-world difference between a dual-core vs. quad-core Haswell? Any discernible difference for the average user with slight gaming/photoshop needs?

1) Unlikely
2) Not really any noticable difference with those needs.

What about a local craigslist sale?

I had enough of a problem trying to buy an rMBP 15" 2013 (new) off ebay from a supposed local seller who never shipped...I'll never buy (*ahem - attempt*) an expensive or popular item off ebay like that again. Ripe for scam. Craiglist..don't get me started...

If you're really too impatient to wait 1-2 months, then I would say you should lose $500. But that's just me ;)

Oh, I'm more than patient enough, but my current HP laptop only lasts an hour on the battery and is crapping out on me :( Classes start Monday, and using the HP laptop for 2-3 months would be too much trouble.
