15" rMBP, 16GB, at least 512GB SSD (will go higher if price difference is small enough).

When I purchased my late '08 MBP, 2GB was plenty. A few years later, going to 8GB (max capacity) helped a lot, as I occassionally need more than 4GB of RAM. Since the RAM likely won't be upgradeable on the Haswell rMBP's and I expect to have this machine for several years, I'm going to 16GB to ensure that I won't "outgrow" an 8GB machine.

All this wait for the rMBP has really put me off. I had planned to purchase it and transfer all data before my next semester at uni, but as that won't be happening I might as well keep my MBA.

What if you get the rMBP when it comes out? Or did you just purchase the MBA?

I'm gonna get a base 15" I may get 16 GB of RAM, but I haven't made a decision yet.I think it depends on if there is a price cut. I'm not worried about portability because I currently have a 13" and the 15" retina weighs the same as the 13" classic. my current screen seems a bit small for coding. I originally wanted the 15" because I wanted a dGPU and the screen space was a bonus. Now I've accepted that Apple is going with the Iris Pro and it doesn't really bother me.
also, thank you for changing the tone of the forum. I like " looking foreword to..." a lot better than "your wrong because X and you don't deserve to be called a Pro!"

I'm definitely going for the 13-inch. Surprised to see most people on here interested in the 15. That's just too big for my uses.

To be honest I'm a bit surprised to see so many people going for a 13". I mean I'm not surprised, cus it is a laptop after all. And the 15" is massive in terms of dimensions compared to the 13". But I tried out 13" again yesterday and the screen is just too small. I use a 15.6" laptop right now and I discovered that anything smaller just has me feeling too cramped to be comfortable (as I reaffirmed yesterday). Although my current 15.6" laptop is a bit smaller than apple's 15" design in terms of length and width..but not a big deal.

I think they should definitely work on narrowing the bezels in the next remodel. I think the design is fine now, but the 15" dimensions are just so big

Me personally, I tested out both the 13 and 15 at the Apple store a few months back pretty extensively.

I did not really notice a difference in screen real estate between 13 and 15, but that's just me. Perhaps if I did some hardcore video editing or something, but I found that the 13 was the perfect size and the body of the 15 was way too big.

I think the problem right now isn't the weight, but the size.

I just read a report from yesterday stating that the next RMBP will have a HD FaceTime camera. How does that differ from the camera in the current RMBP?

Was the report saying 1080? Current is 720.

Oh and which article are you referencing?

1080. This article came out back in June or so, before WWDC. The reported indicated that the rMBP would get a 1080p FaceTime camera, and also that the 13-inch rMBP would be thinner, most likely to match the thickness of the 15-inch.

Ah yes, when the Haswell MBP was supposed to be announced during WWDC. Those were the days... :p

I agree the 15" body seems way bigger than the 13". I actually like the 13" form factor quite a bit, but the sticking point for me is the dual core and 8GB RAM. I tend to hang on to laptops for a long time (current one is almost 7 years old, although barely hanging in there), so I prefer to get specs that may be slightly beyond what I absolutely need today because it will serve me better in the long run.

Same here. I've had a dual core for too long. Must. Have. Quad.

I wonder about the bezel, too... :D

Just curious why a quad-core is a must for some people now? I mean, if you're not doing anything extremely intensive.

Apple could always remove the speaker grilles on the sides, that would make the 15-inch a little smaller.

Rendering. Encoding. Transcoding. Tons and tons of rendering.

I never want to have to deal with dual core again lol :D

And as far as size, I think I'd prefer a smaller bezel by increasing screen size vs. decreasing chassis size.

I found out that a 6-core is a must for me, that's why I'll likely get a base MBA 13" for lugging around, and build a nice and powerful 6-core hackintosh cheaper than the 13" or 15" rMBP base model... :D

Intel Ivy Bridge-E i7-4930K Overclocked at 4.5Ghz
Asus SABERTOOTH X79 LGA 2011
Corsair Vengeance 32GB RAM
GigaByte WindForce 670 GTX 2GB OC and CUDA enabled
Corsair H100i Extreme Performance CPU Cooler (CPU temp < 60º Celsius at max load)
Didn't decide yet what PSU and Case...

Expected GeekBench ~23000... Hasta la vista expensive rMBP... :D

Is there a reason there aren't components in that part on the 13-inch?

The 13" doesn't have the dedicated GPU nor the higher wattage CPU both of which require extra space and cooling.

Also I think that the speaker grills on the 15" aren't adding to the size. If they wanted to make the screen bezel smaller they would and just make the speaker grills smaller.

Making the screen bezels smaller and making the whole notebook smaller also reduces the size of the battery.

Question: is everyone pretty much settled on what configuration they will be going with? There's all this talk about when it will come out and how hard it is to wait, but do you know what you will be ordering?

I'm ready to purchase a maxed out 2.8/16/768 Retina right now.
The dGPU is my main concern though.
If the new Haswell doesn't have one, I might as well just place my order now.

What to do....

Click click the 'Give away my money...' Button :D

How much is it? $3000? I can build a much more powerful hackintosh than the upcoming macpro... :D
