I'm ready to purchase a maxed out 2.8/16/768 Retina right now.
The dGPU is my main concern though.
If the new Haswell doesn't have one, I might as well just place my order now.

What to do....
You can also wait until the haswell release and buy the early 2013 :)

If haswell doesen't have a dgpu that's what i'll do

even if the new one doesn't meet your expectations, waiting will still benefit you because the cost of the current ones should go down. Also if you wait you will not be basing your purchase on rumors, so you can be more confident of your choice.

I think Apple is working with nVidia to release a TB2 eGPU in fall... :D

Hardcore Mac gamers will not be disappointed... Lol

Thanks for the encouragement everyone.
I'll wait it out, especially if the current model gets slightly cheaper.

The report indicates that the release of the Haswell rMBPs will be just before BLACK FRIDAY?? Last time I checked, Black Friday was the day after Thanksgiving in NOVEMBER. I swear all these crazy reports flying around.

I don't see why releasing before Black Friday.

Regardless, as the article notes, I think it's not coming out until Mavericks is out.

It didn't say. And if that's the case, 1080, then that's another tidbit worth waiting for. One that has not been discussed much

kpopstars.com quoting christiantoday.com? nothing against kPop or christianity, but I wouldn't consider either of those to be a reliable news source
... okay, maybe I do have something against k-pop, but still...

"Despite numerous rumors, the Cupertino tech giant will not remove the optical drives on the upcoming MacBook Pro as it is extremely popular with users." this was in the christianitytoday article that the k-pop article was referring to. another sign that they don't know what they are talking about. (again, nothing against Christians just because one site with a christian title gives sketchy info)

That would also mean it would be the end of November, the 21st. That's almost December :eek::eek:

I honestly forgot about the whole 1080p camera and the 13-inch getting slightly thinner. Makes me even more excited now.

I've got a question. Generally speaking do people notice a difference in image quality (or video) in the bump from 720p to 1080p for most webcam's out there? I know that super high end 1080p webcams are gonna be better than any other, and there are low quality 720p cams too, which just suck. But generally speaking, if you were to get one tier which is 720p and another product of lets say the same brand but the 1080p model, would it even be a noticeable difference besides the obvious size in resolution? Or is resolution generally speaking, also, completely independent of overall quality? Because I've seen some 720p cameras that are much better quality than some 1080p ones. Speaking specifically of webcams now.

Btw, not sure how much the boost from 720p to 1080p will be for the MBP's webcam, but the one currently in the MBP models is pretty shoddy...to say the least.

I guess I don't care if its released in November.. I just want it to be announced in October.

I think there is a very good chance that the Haswell 13" MBP will be offered with a 16GB option.

I hope so too, but somehow I doubt there will be if there isn't now.

I sure hope they would release them so I could get my wife an early xmas present ASAP so I could have my computer back:(

13", base processor (unless by some miracle we have the option to upgrade to quad core), 16gb RAM (if the option is added), 256gb SSD (I don't need much space on board due to my many external drives, but I definitely need more than 128gb because of bootcamp), and if we happen to get IGZO screens this update (I'm not getting my hopes up too high for this) then I'll be hanging on to this particular MBP for a few years. If not, then I'll be upgrading when we do get IGZO.

What about you? What's your planned configuration?

I plan to get the 13" maxed out, meaning 768GB SSD, 16 Ram (if available), max CPU.

Man if the 13" gets thinner, 16GB ram, with Iris Pro, the 15" is gonna be the "least" updated machine this fall! o.o

I hope [that Apple will offer a 16GB option for the 13" rMBP] too, but somehow I doubt there will be if there isn't now.
It would be strange if the 16GB were to become available for the 13" rMBP two years rather than one year after it became available for the 15" rMBP. One factor will be the percentage of 15" rMBP orders chose to pay $200 extra for the 16GB option. If the percentage is significant, then Apple would want to offer it for the 13" rMBP.

Apple's cost for that extra 8GB of RAM chips is now in the $50 to $60 range. Even with manufacturing costs, added ordering / supply chain complexity, and overhead, I would not expect Apple's cost to exceed about $100, so I would not be surprised to see the 16GB BTO option reduced in price from $200 to $150.

I plan to get the 13" maxed out, meaning 768GB SSD, 16 Ram (if available), max CPU.
I expect Apple to offer a 1TB SSD option for the Haswell rMBP (and the Mac Pro) -- if not initially upon introduction then sometime before Broadwell. We'll see.

I would be very surprised if the 13" MBP were to get Iris Pro 5200 HD graphics. I'm confident only the 15" MBP will get Iris Pro and the 13" will get Iris 5100 HD graphics.

It would depend on how you're using the webcam. For just taking photos/videos of yourself at your desk, yeah you may notice a difference. But for actual video calls, the image is usually compressed a bit (though this depends more on your connection quality).

For this upgrade though I would rather they keep the 720p and make it handle low light situations better. I generally do my video calls at night and I don't like having my room light on at full brightness. I could turn up the screen brightness, but that defeats the purpose of dimming my light.

This article is pretty dubious. It's presumably only about the retina MacBook Pros and yet it says this:

Despite numerous rumors, the Cupertino tech giant will not remove the optical drives on the upcoming MacBook Pro as it is extremely popular with users.

Of course the rMBP's already don't have an optical drive.

And about the "before Black Friday" thing: October is before the all-important Black Friday shopping season. IMO this article tells us nothing new.

Hardcore gamers are using Mac's these days? :D ;)

I was referring to Mac purists who are so picky that they won't game on a wintel laptop... :D

The game market is an opportunity for Apple to increase their profit margins. It would be a big mistake to neglect it and ditch the dGPU without providing any alternative...

I'm waiting on the 13" with i7 (hopefully QC, but doubtful), 16GB (deal breaker), and 512GB. If they don't offer a 16GB BTO option, I'll be getting an 11" base model and building a hackintosh with the other $2k I would have spent on a rMBP. I'd much rather only have one machine though....
