A little off topic...but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go with the 13 inch rMBP. My questions is, do you think they will be offering a 1TB Flash Storage in the refresh? If not, I think I'll go with the 768 but I would really like a 1TB. I feel like that could hold me over much longer.

I shudder to think what Apple might price the 1TB SSD, if they already charge $900 for the 768GB.

Just wondering though, why would you need that much space? Unless you are a video/music editor, which going by the 13inch rMBP choice, you're probably not. And even then, why not just buy an external 1TB hard drive? It would be way cheaper. I mean even a 4TB goes for around $200, which is again, significantly cheaper. Why would you spend over $1000 for 1TB SSD?

Yeah, 2.4GHz is the highest clock speed for Intel's haswell processors. And that's assuming they use the HQ processors (4750, 4850, 4950) with Iris Pro.

If they decide to use the the MQ processors instead (4700, 4800, 4900), the highest will be 2.8GHz. But that's unlikely since geekbench showed the HQ processors.

Thanks. I realize they're designed by Intel. I referred to Apple since I'm assuming any given notebook manufacturer selects which config they want to put in their lineup.

Man I hope it's not just me, but it seems like people are quick to presume that a poster is *very* ignorant.. a little benefit of the doubt would help, people! :D

They don't need to release Mavericks in order to release Macs. Last year the rMBPs came out a bit before ML.

Oh, but they do.

Because the battery life improvement of Mavericks is real. Apple would have to revise their battery life estimates for the machines within a month due to the release of Mavericks. That's just not worth it.

And it's silly to have an October event only to unveil Mavericks and nothing else. iOS stuffs aside, the Retina MacBooks and Mac Pro are the only cards left for Apple to play. And I'm quite sure they'd want to introduce new Macs along with the OS.

ML 10.8.5 will do the job until Mavericks is released...

Read above.

Also 10.8.5 doesn't look like it includes new drivers, so... go figures.

IIRC, the past couple of MBP updates we didn't see leaked SKUs until a few days before the event. So there's still time for stuff to surface.

No, leaked specs and SKUs appeared a full week or two before the announcement.

Because Apple should have already started shipping these machines from China by now if they want to say "it's available now on the Apple Store" at the announcement... like they have done for pretty much every product lately except for the Mac Pro.

^^ Apple could very well release the new MBPs in Mid September, at least that's what Koh said.
And I don't think SKUs always appear before an update do they? I mean they showed up for the Macbook Air. I just don't see why Apple would want to delay it further to October. It would suck so much if they do though. I've been saying one more month, one more month since July now...:(

Yeah sorry, I was being a dick, I thought I removed that but I guess I forgot.

Lol no prob. But thanks for the specs. So the MQ chips have some other bare bones iGPU, right? I thought I saw them in PC gaming laptops along with beefy discrete graphics.

Yeah, I thought Apple would going to put the MQ chips with the HD 4600 and then put in a dGPU like a 750M or a 755M. Now it's unlikely since geekbench shows the HQ processors.

Or if they do discontinue the cMBP maybe they can offer the rMBP at a lower price point with the 5200 only and then the MQ processors + dGPU at a higher price point, This is pretty unlikely too since Iris Pro costs more.

2.4 is the max? I thought 2.8 was. Does anyone have any idea which processors Apple could be using in the 13-inch rMBP?

Yes, The 4950 HQ is the highest-end Haswell processor with Iris Pro. The 4900 MQ on the other hand goes up to 2.8GHz but only has the 4600 iGPU. Despite the low clock speed, it's comparable to the highest-end Ivy bridge MBP.

For the 13inch, they will most likely use the 4258U, and the 4288U. These have the Intel HD 5100 iGPU

Got it. I wasn't worried about the low clock speed, it was just lower than I thought.

Ok so I truly don't know this one: does the Haswell lineup have that "turbo" feature?

Maybe user-upgradable innards are more expensive than those in a retina model? Connectors and so on?
Of course user-upgradable innards are more expensive than those in a retina model, but it's mainly because there are so many more assembly steps, not because of the cost of the connectors.

Yes.

Tim Cook did say 'new products this fall', so I am sitting on the October bandwagon as well.
I know the context of 'new' was debated a hundreds of pages ago in this thread, so in no means am I trying to repeat another argument over it, just using the most reliable source thus far.

Technically speaking, fall interval is 3 months: Sept 21 - December 21... . I think I am going to get a refurb... :D

15 rmbp (june 2012) 1629€ refurb. screen flickering from first time I turn on the notebook. it is going back to apple today.

Shall we create a blacklist thread where people could post serials of (r)MBPs, whether they are new or refurbs, that have issues (dents, IR, bleeding,...etc ?

apple would never use the MQ cpus, simply due to the fact that it doesn't pack the 5200

And you know this because?

I'm not trying to be snarky here but I'd wanna see some legit (or even just semi-legitimate) sources for statements like that.

It's not based on inside information (other than the Geekbench benchmarks of the prototype Haswell rMBP). It's based on an understanding of the various Haswell CPUs that have been announced. Taking into consideration cost, thermal dissipation, performance requirements, Apple's stated and obvious strategic goals, etc., it's all but certain that the 13" Haswell rMBP will have Iris 5100 HD graphics and the 15" Haswell rMBP will have Iris Pro 5200 HD graphics. These CPUs look like Intel make them with Apple's rMBP requirements in mind. No other CPU options are really very plausible.

This is a good idea in theory. I think in practice it would be hugely limited. The number of returns is big compared to the number of MacRumors posters listing those serial numbers. I had a couple of MBA serial numbers I could have added though...

I really doubt we will see a rMBP release on September 10th.
For that to happen Mavericks would have to be done by then.
And i know... i know... many will say "they have released Macs out of sync of the new OSX versions.

But this time around they have clearly gone down a path of longer battery life.
The Air was a different story cos its more mainstream then the rMBP.
It needed to be released in time for school.

The rMBP how ever is a perfect computer to release with the Mavericks system to show of its features.
Cos the MP has such a slim audience.

Its better for them to say that: "The rMBP will have all these new features with Mavericks".
Then to say: "And the rMBP will eventually have all these features when it gets Mavericks".

If the rMBP was to be released with Lion they would have to revise the statements about battery life and such after release. And it wont give the same impact as saying it, when its released.

It just wouldn't make sense for them to release it out of sync of Mavericks.
Also if it was going to be released with the latest version of Lion that is said to be the last one before Mavericks. We would have seen drivers implemented in that release.

Its kind of interesting to read about the new Xbox One cpu/gpu.
Cos it only have 47mb memory built in. And only 32mb of that is for the iGPU. To as they say "take care of almost all operations".
The Iris Pro have 128mb...
So just as Intel said when they launched it "We didn't find more then 32mb to be needed, but to be really future proof we doubled it. And then doubled it again".

So maybe with optimizations the performance numbers of Iris Pro can get a lot better in games.

From what other posters in this thread have said, it sounds like Mavericks only increases battery life by 1-2 hours. Since the Macbook Air still has Ivy Bridge based battery estimates, they could update both figures at the same time; they could say a certain amount of battery life is possible with a free update to Mavericks, or they could just leave both as slightly underestimated figures.

iMacs, Mac Minis, iWork? Also, I can imagine the iPads being a major focus of that event.

From what I can find on Google, SKUs came out 7 days before WWDC 2013 and 5 days before WWDC 2012, and we're still 14 days before the (rumoured) September 10th event.

Its name is Mavericks OS not Miracle OS... Bear in mind there are no 100% free from bugs OSs... So expect Mavericks will have some minor or even unexpected major bugs... It'll get more or less mature after update 1 or 2 is released...

There are iPhone rumors, screenshots, and videos floating all over the 'net. Just as one would expect before a release. There is NOTHING like that for the MBPr refresh.
No flames. I don't recall ever seeing much in the way of pre-release MBP component pics -- seems the 2008 unibody was pretty much a complete surprise -- so the lack of leaks is not much of an indicator to me. SKUs on the other hand, fairly often come out a couple days beforehand, and we still have a couple weeks before 9/10.

And I don't think SKUs always appear before an update do they?
Not from Apple, but they usually leak from Best Buy, etc., a couple days early.

Still thinking September is a good possibility, mostly because I'm thinking Mavericks is not a prerequisite to release. I can easily envision an event in which they say "here's the great new MBP, and we expect another 1-2 hrs of battery life when your free Mavericks upgrade is released soon."

And your point is?
