how do you guys feel about AppleCare? they talked about it on MacBreak Weekly, and it sounded like it's a good idea if you are moving around a lot. I'm going to college, so... worth the money? a lot of bad things could happen at school.

AppleCare extends the warranty for defects in the machine (things Apple has control over); AppleCare does not cover accidental damage.

It does not cover accidental damage, but extends the normal warranty period (and sometimes Apple is a little easier to talk with when you have AC).

I normally don't buy it, but I have bought Applecare for my upcoming Haswell rMBP, as I got it for only $90 because a store here in Denmark had a wrong price listed for it :) All-new still in wrapping. A little steal

Hi,folks.
Need your help.
I'm considering buying Macbook Pro Retina for my sister.
She works in CorelDraw,Photoshop,3DMax(i know that these are Windows programs, but sure there is some Mac version)
So the question is should i wait for the new MBP Retina,or buy 2012 version
I'm especially interested in update, cuz as far as i understand you can't upgrade you RAM and SSD(max 16g of RAM and 768 SSD)

P.S i know this is a stupid question, but maybe you can advise me some other notebook for working in these programs.

It used to. I remember taking an iPhone because dropping it messed it up, and they just gave me a new one. But they've tightened things up now.

It's not horrible, though. Replacing the back of an iPhone 4S is something like $29 USD.

How much do you think the base model 15" refurb will drop when the has wells come out? Right now it's $1,599. I'm sick of waiting not sure I need the upgrades has well will bring

No. That makes me feel bad about my language abilities.

Photoshop is no problem, but there is no Mac-version available of CorelDraw and 3ds Max.
(and NO, CorelDraw 11 for Mac doesn't count as a real version for Mac)

It's also not ideal to run these programs in a virtual machine.

So, instead of waiting for the new rMBP, it seems you better get your sis a decent Windows machine...

3Dstudio Max does not have a Mac (OS X) version, there are other programs but the workflow is totally different (Maya, Cinema4D, Lightwave, etc).

3Ds Max only can be run in Windows through Bootcamp on any Mac.

Yeah dude that's what square trade is for. Apple isn't interested in the insurance business

Actually, Apple is interested in the insurance business for iPhone and iPad. Applecare+ for iPhone and iPad includes two instances accidental damage coverage with $50 deductible.

Applecare (no +) for PCs does not include this coverage. I can understand that for iMacs where accidental damage is minimal, but would not be surprised if they offered an Applecare + for MacBooks in the future.

I've had Applecare and Applecare + on my iPhone 5, iPad 3 and MacBook, but have never had to use it. I always get the felling that the first time I don't buy it I will need it!

I'm so glad i live in Sweden so i don't have to bother with apple care.
Only reason for me to get it would be for the extra support.
In Sweden Apple have to leave a 3 year warranty on their products by law.
Just like every other company have to leave with their products.

If no iPads announcement on Sept. 10th, then what should we expect?... :D

In Spain we only have 2 years warranty by law but we always have sunny weather... :D
