I have a question ...

When the haswell appear will the price drop for 2013 version?

Or the price will be the same as refurbished is now?

I guess it's bad news only if the rMBP's are going to use one or some of the newer processors. That could push the Haswell update into November, late November. It's still Christmas season  Gut feeling, which is all I have to go on at this point, still tells me October though.

Have we forgotten about the Geekbench score? Apple have already tested Haswell chips in the MBPs. November is long overdue, the Airs have been out since early June. New rMBPs have to come sooner rather than later. September or October, surely.

No leaked bench, SKU...etc. I think it's gonna be late 2013 (~end of November)...

I know the following is unlikely because Apple would not have the spotlight to themselves but if it does turn out to be late November it would be pretty cool to have the Haswell rMBP's announced either on Black Friday or a few days beforehand with them going on sale on Black Friday. It would be mayhem in the Apple Stores :D

At this point I don't even care any more. October, late November, whatever. We've waited so long already :(

Let's go to Cupertino Infinite Loop offices and do a strike and shout: We need leaked bench, we need leaked SKU, fire fire Cook... :D

1. Benchmarks: https://www.macrumors.com/2013/07/09/next-generation-15-inch-macbook-pro-shows-up-in-benchmarks/

2. "Kind-of SKU": AAPLJ45,1

3. The "fire fire Cook" part I'm in :D

I totally forgot these benchmarks, too, since it was so long ago. Thanks for the hint BlueSun

For some reason I feel like I am Frank Burns on that old M*A*S*H show where he just stands there watching B.J. and Hawkeye arguing for the entire episode.

I never said "forever".
Others did.

... until dgpus are obsolete per se.
Discrete GPUs will be obsolescent, though not yet obsolete, as soon as Haswell CPUs with Iris Pro 5200 HD graphics are shipping.

BioShock Infinite? Call of Duty 4? Grand Theft Auto: VC? Guild Wars 2? Or, if you dual-boot into Windows: Skyrim, Battlefield 3, Final Fantasy XIV, Fable III, Assassin's Creed IV?

You seriously want to suggest that these games will run at the same frame rate with 1440p and a 750m as they will at 1080p and Iris Pro? Or at the same frame rate with 1080p and a 750m as they will at 720p and Iris Pro? Colour me skeptical.

Well none of those things mean late-2013. Apple wouldn't push the release past October.

Im waiting aswell... But don t know for how long I can wait because I need a macbook pro for editing in Final Cut for my job. Wait and see... :-/

I'm not sure that an early-November release is impossible. What I am sure about is that Apple will not make the same mistake again that they made last year with the iMac. New Macs will not be released until Apple has ramped up production enough to keep up with supply. If they do not have enough product in hand and in production to meet holiday season demand, then the release will have to slip into 2014. That's true of the MBP, the iMac, the Mac Mini, and the Mac Pro.

If a current rMBP model meets your needs and you need one now, my advice is to buy one now. There are some great deals out there. There is no guarantee that the Haswell rMBPs will be released this year.

If there will be no announcement September 10th... guys, I'll go crazy. I'm typing this from my Blackbook 2007 that needs replacement asap, but I really want the new Haswell rMBP for editing purposes etc. Now I have to enter yet another academic year with an ancient laptop...

Im also hoping for at least a silent update or something, also needed for editing purposes!

I am very tempted to cross Mexican borders toward Texas and get something by mid September whether rMBP is released or not. If it is not released I would have to chose between:

1) New MBA Haswell 13", i7 1.7Ghz, 8GB RAM, 256GB PCIe-SSD ($1,549.00@Apple)

2) New MBA Haswell 13", i5 1.3Ghz, 8GB RAM, 256GB PCIe-SSD ($1,399.00@Apple)

3) New early 2013 rMBP 13", 2.6GHz, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD ($1,699.00@Apple; $1,499.00@Best Buy)

4) Refurb early 2013 rMBP 13", i5 2.6GHz, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD ( $1,439.00@Apple Refurb; $1,393.99@Best Buy Open Box)

I will be using it mainly for programming, surfing, and watching videos. I have an external Dell Ultrsharp 24" IPS display and I am planning to use it whenever I can since it is more comfortable for the eyes... Which model do you think is better suited for my needs? Is the new MBA i5 or i7 faster than current rMBP i5?

My other issue is although I'm used to US QWERTY since my 2007 MBP has it, I would really prefer a physical Western Spanish QWERTY keyboard layout because it makes it much easier to type Spanish accented vowels. The other reason is it would be easier to resell it here in Spain... Do you think it is possible to request a Spanish keyboard with Apple refurb or Best Buy new or Open Box??

Best buy has discounted all macbook pro's by $200 for 4 days. Base 13'' rMBP can be purchased for $1299 now, or $1199 for those with a student coupon.

Is it only a labor day sale?... or does it further point to a Sept 10th release? :)

I doubt BB has any privileged release date information. They are aware the haswell release date is approaching and I think they are doing some risks calculation. They prefer to clear their current stock offering $200 discount now than offering $400 or more discount once haswell is released...

By the way what's going on with this thread? The posting throughput is almost nil... Maybe people moved to 'I just ordered' thread once they knew Apple won't probably make it for September... :D

I would choose option 4).

Well, put me in the "I just ordered..." thread.

I put in an order for a 15" refurb, and guess what? My pick-up date is the 11th. IF something happens the 10th, I'll know before I get my machine and can have a machine to work on for 2 weeks while I'm waiting on delivery of the Haswell.

If you can't wait until October/November (like myself), I suggest you go ahead and order a refurb.

I caved also got the base 15" retina sick of waiting for what looks like a lackluster update this will be my first Mac couldn't spend the extra $600 $700 for a haswell oh yeah and there's an Xbox one to pay for!

Certainty brings Peace of Mind.....

February 2006 - Original Macbook Pro, with Intel Yonah processor
October 2006 - Merom MBP
June 2007 - Santa Rosa MBP (spec bump in Oct 2007)
February 2008 - Penryn MBP
October 2008 - First Unibody MBP
June 2009 - First MBP with built-in battery
*******April 2010 - First Core i5 and i7 MBPs (released 2 months late, allegedly due to Intel's delay)******
February 2011 - Sandy Bridge MBP (return to regular cycle)
October 2011 - Sandy Bridge spec bump
June 2012 - Ivy Bridge MBP and rMBP
February 2013 - Ivy Bridge spec bump on rMBP

A you can see, it's been a February - October - June pattern for the last 7 years, with the only exception being 2010.
Accordingly the next MBP release will be….

You Guessed it! October 2013 -- HASWELL rMBP!

(Now we can stop all this twisting and turning -- and just relax and wait.)

Just thought I'd chime in.... I'm soooooo happy I went and bought the 15" RMBP refurb from the Apple Store early last month instead of waiting! It's an awesome computer and I saved $500. It has a dedicated graphics card and to top it off.... Apple sent me a 2.6ghz i7 model instead of the 2.3ghz that I had ordered. Part of the thrill of getting an Apple refurb is the possibility of a free upgrade, and I'm absolutely thrilled that they did it for me. Wish I could upgrade the 256GB SSD to the 512GB one, but I'm seriously not complaining. At $1599, the 15" RMBP is a no-brainer. If you're just waiting to get the Haswell model you're gonna be stuck with a minimal processor gain, and a severely less powerful GPU for legacy software. I wouldn't hesitate... buy it while you can!!!

Here's another interesting piece of perspective:

Feb 2006 - MBP with Yonah
May 2006 - MB with Yonah

Oct 2006 - MBP with Merom
Nov 2006 - MB with Merom

Jun 2007 - MBP with Santa Rosa
xxx xxxx - MB never received

Feb 2008 - MBP with Penryn
Feb 2008 - MB with Penryn

Oct 2008 - MBP unibody
Oct 2008 - MB unibody

Jun 2009 - MBP built-in battery
Oct 2009 - MB built-in battery

Apr 2010 - MBP with i5/i7
Oct 2010 - MBA new form factor

Feb 2011 - MBP with Sandy Bridge
Jul 2011 - MBA with Sandy Bridge

Jun 2012 - MBP with Ivy Bridge
Jun 2012 - MBA with Ivy Bridge

Based on this, we can assume the MBP will be updated with Haswell anywhere between a couple months before or, at the very latest, the same time as the Air.
