Yeah it was my wishful thinking that I could get the $100 iTunes gift card too. That would be pretty cool. There are a lot of good apps that I've been hoping to get. :)

Does anyone think intel having a convention on September 10th helps our chances ?! I personally believe we won't see an update until October . Only for the fact that we've seen no leaks so far

You can. Just buy an Ivy Bridge rMBP. Some of the refurbished models are available at excellent prices. Truly great value if bought today.

I refuse to pay $2000+ for last year's technology with display issues. I've had experience with buying an MBP with an inherent defect (8600M GPU on my 2008 Macbook Pro) and I'd like to avoid issues like that in the future.
And who knows, Apple might reduce the prices too on the updated rMBP.

Also, you don't get the giftcard if you buy refurbished. And I've waited for so long anyways, one more month won't make a difference.

Maybe they're holding the event to boast about Apple using their Iris graphics, as NVIDIA did after the original rMBP release? *wishful thinking*

Just to be sure I checked that the apple Back To School offer is still running in Europe, and not just in the US I checked the sites of France, Netherlands, and Germany. All advertise the offer ending on Sep 6 however, when you buy a MacBook Pro you still receive your 80 Euro (100$).

This is good news for those buying in Europe :)

There'd be some serious litigation if Intel spilled the beans about new MBP specs while Apple is still moving old stock.

I agree, when the new models comes out, the existing models would be even lower. I also believe the new models will be a bit cheaper, like $100-200.

Not if Apple announce the rMBP on Sep 10 before Intel's keynote :)

However, I think it's more likely that Intel will launch TB2 at the event.

Do we know how long the upcoming event will last ? And how long do you think announcing iPhone 5S/5C + iOS7 would take ? Could help us figure out if there is a possibility of an other announcement.

I really don't think it would. But to answer your question their events are about 90 min long

Nice summary :)

I do think there is a fundamental difference in pre-announcing the new Mac Pro versus pre-announcing updated Haswell rMBP's.

Firstly the new Mac Pro is almost like a new category of product. The Haswell update is just that, an update.

Secondly, IMO Apple was almost warning us about the drastic changes to the new Mac Pro so if anyone wanted a new 'old' Mac Pro they had ample time to buy one. In this case pre-announcing the new Mac Pro was much more likely to help clear the stocks of the old Mac Pro. Pre-announcing the Haswell upgrade to the rMBP's would more likely cause sales of the Ivy Bridge rMBP's to grind to a halt.

Apple surely wants to have its stocks of IB rMBP's be almost zero when the Haswells are finally available.

So if the Haswell rMBP's are released in September (I'm still betting on October) I highly doubt they will be pre-announced for release later this month.

Again, nice job on your article.

TB2 has already been released into an asus motherboard but I don't know if it's started shipping . Regardless intel needs sometthing to shown off the performance of it at the conference

Nice summary.

One fix: Your Mavericks comment has the OS7 picture repeated from the OS7 discussion immediately above it; I'm assuming you meant to post the Mavericks wallpaper there.

Edit: I wonder if the Mac Mini will be shaped like the new Airport Extreme -- in other words, a new-design Mac Pro "mini me."

Well it took them roughly an hour to introduce the iPhone 5 and the event lasted about 100 minutes . They did show off a lot of ios 6 and did a introduction of a few new stores so so that hour in time was probably more like 50 minutes . since there are two phones it'll most likely be about 70 minutes . Remember they have an event in china the next day so they could focus on the iPhone 5c during that one without making a huge huge deal about it during the one on the 10th. With the time frame of the events they have should be updating something else other than the phones .

Thanks you. I know that the drastic changes to the Mac Pro can almost be considered as a new category but, I thought the pre-announcing of the Retina MacBook Pro would follow in the footsteps of the Mac Pro and give Apple some more time to stockpile whatever they need for the rmbp. The amount of time between the announcement and the launch would be a lot smaller for the rmbp, signifying that it is a small update, although the presence of an update nonetheless signifies that it is in Apple's mind a "Pro" machine. The sales of the 15-inch IB retina MacBook Pro might not grind to a halt but, I've got nothing for the 13-inch. Perhaps Apple has already sold most of their inventory anyways.

I hope you are right. I am waiting for the 13" Haswell rMBP. I thought it surely was going to drop during WWDC. Now I'm in waiting mode and am just trying not to get my hopes up too high for Tuesday - or September for that matter.

You're going to get a big graphics boost this year, eh?

It does?* Nevermind I just checked it and I've now fixed it. Thanks for the heads up.

What about the people who need/want a dGPU if they choose to get rid of it?
