Why would you want a 740 when you can have the Iris Pro?

Because the 740 is faster than the Iris Pro, and why care about a 740 when you could have a 750m?
The current rMBP houses a dGPU (as some of you might forget) so it is build to house one, so why not implement one instead of going to the drawing boards again and change the brand new rMBP again for a new internal design?

Why would you want an Iris Pro when you can have a dedicated GPU may I ask? To achieve 14 hours of battery life instead of 11 hours? Who cares??

My current Windows laptop which I eagerly want to replace by a MBP only achieved 2 hours 30 minutes at it's best when it was new, now it only manages to get 1 hour. And I'm not proclaiming some "my laptop story" since most of the competition (even today) only manages to achieve a couple of hours. Macbook owners are spoiled with their +7 hours of battery life which is already an amazing feat.

The MBA's went from 7 hours to 12 hours ONLY by changing the CPU from Ivy Bridge to Haswell. No dGPU was left out since the previous model didn't have a dGPU as well. The current rMBP achieves 7 hours (as the pre-Haswell MBA did) so it's very likely the Haswell rMBP would achieve 11 hours by only changing the CPU from Ivy Bridge to Haswell. Then something most of you forget: Nvidia optimized their dGPU's too! It's not only Intel who became more power efficient you know. The new GT750m (a worthy runner-up for the current GT650m) has a TDP against 40W and the current 650m has a TDP of 45W.

To conclude: Haswell + GT750m would still be able to achieve more than 11 hours of battery life, maybe 12 hours who knows? Especially since Mavericks will be optimized as well. We're talking about more than 11 hours people  ! Are you really willing to dump the dGPU to achieve even a bit more while sacrificing speed on a Pro-laptop at more than 2000 dollars?

I really don't understand all you Iris-Pro-fanboys, I really don't. :(

Your tone does not support your argument. It's just rude.

It makes no sense to compare a 4950HQ with a 740m, because the 750m or 755m is the equivalent of a 650m. And the notebooks are not comparable, because: "In addition to a version with the GK107 chip (384 shader, 810 - 895 MHz, 128 bit memory) and DDR3 memory, there might exist models with the new GK208 (384 shader, up to 980 MHz plus boost, 64 bit memory) and/or GDDR5, too." So you have totally different cards mixed up with last years Ivy Bridge models compared to the fastest Iris Pro 5200 (4950HQ). Look at that german review, where they tested nearly equal processors with a 4750HQ compared to a 4700HQ+750m: http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/grafikkarten/2013/intel-iris-pro-5200-grafik-im-test/3/

Summary: Intel is about 24% slower than 750m in games. Performance is somewhere between a 730m and a 740m.

Are here still people who thinks apple will go with IP + dGPU?

In practice, IP is in games slightly faster than a 740M and in pro apps even faster than a 750M? That with lighter weight, less space, power consumption, better battery life etc...great content for apples marketing imo.

Quite possible, but I think the discussion and comparisons about the 740M at the moment are from this:

On HP.com With the i7-4900MQ (2.8Ghz) selected it cost only $70 to go from the Intel graphics to add the NVidia 740.

We all know HP will make money off that upgrade.

So why would Apple NOT add the NVidia 740 to the new rMBP?

Well I'm no fortune teller or insider at Apple so I can't say what they will do. We can only speculate what will happen and the story I wrote above is just my opinion.

What I think Apple will do:
-13" Retina Macbook Pro with HD5100 graphics (4MB L3 cache i7's)
-15" Retina Macbook Pro with HD5200 graphics (6MB L3 cache i7's: i7-4750HQ and i7-4950HQ)

What I hope Apple will do:
-13" Retina Macbook Pro with HD5200 graphics (6MB L3 cache i7's: i7-4750HQ and i7-4950HQ)
-15" Retina Macbook Pro with HD4600 graphics (8MB L3 cache i7's: i7-4800MQ and i7-4900MQ) and GT750m

If Apple does what I hope they'll do, we would get top-notch graphics on the 13" Macbooks and even better graphics on the 15" with even faster cpu's.

His message is a bit direct, but it still correct. A 19% performance decrease isn't relevant, as it is orders of magnitude that matter. The Geforce 750M and the Iris 5200 Pro are both 2-4 times as slow as the 780M.

We're all hoping for something like that. But since when has Apple ever delivered what we ask them for? Even if they did that, it would be eventually, only after Windows machines have had them for at least a year (USB 3.0, anyone?) They know that they'll still have a growing market even if they lose people like us to other manufacturers.

I couldn't care less if they have a dGPU or not to be honest. I hope they do to be honest to placate the gamers on here (and the serious professionals who do need it).

BUT, I care about battery life. Plus it will run cooler and be cheaper and the battery will run longer. There's a lot of people who do "professional" work and need a 15inch screen but don't need the best GPU.

And don't bring your Windows mindset to Apple. It's more than just numbers.

I was going to the store, but I think I can wait one more day for retina 13" with HD5200

I'm being positive and think we will see the new MacBook Pro tomorrow! :)

Apple will obviously be focusing on the new iPhone(s) and iOS7 which will take centre stage. However if you just have those things then the keynote will be pretty short time-wise so I think there will be 1 or 2 more things announced.
Possibilities for what they could be:

- iPads - Very unlikely, more likely to be October.
- iPods - Very unlikely, no leaks, breaks 2 year cycle for iPod Touch.
- OSX Mavericks - Unlikely given latest beta only released about a week ago. More likely to be October.
- Mac Pro/iMac/Mac Mini - I think these 3 will be released together in October. The Mac Pro certainly won't be released tomorrow in my opinion.
- Apple TV - Pretty likely something will happen with the Apple TV tomorrow, whether it be a hardware/software update.
- MacBook Air - refreshed at WWDC, unlikely they will be refreshing it again this year.
- MacBook Pro Haswell - Given that out of these products, the Apple TV is the only other product that could be refreshed tomorrow alongside the new iPhone(s) and iOS7, I think the new MacBook Pro could be in for a good shout too!

I hope you are right. There are a lot of products to release this fall. Hopefully there will be something other than the two iPhones mentioned tomorrow becauce it would be hard to see there being more than one more Apple event this year.

I have a hunch we'll get a release date for Mavericks tomorrow even if that is the only mention of Macs.

So no more leaked benchmarks, no shortages of existing macbook pros at retailers, and no new info since mid august.

Dare I say it - could the new rMBPs be released even AFTER October?

It could be possible. But no shortage isn't a sign of no refresh. There wasn't any shortages before the early-2013 refresh either.

Its possible, maybe Apple will hold off until Feb 2014 to introduce IGZO panels? Merely speculation of course, but it wouldn't surprise me at this stage.
