Doesn't look like new rMBPs are coming tomorrow. But I would love a great surprise. I'm with everyone else, I think we are seeing them in October.

I think in all fairness, Apple is on it's way out with Tim Cook at it's strings. Too much focus on the iPhone. If Steve were still the CEO today, I'm sure it would be a lot more exciting to anticipate what will be happening tomorrow at the September media event.

Don't get me wrong, Tim is cool, but to be honest, I am sick to death of seeing the iPhone 5S and the 5c. Not to mention the champagne iPhone 5S, eugh!

There has to be a factory out there right now as we speak; possibly months well into the manufacturing and testing of the Haswell rMBP or at least the designing of it's architecture to support Mavericks.

A few weeks ago we saw on here, a post with benchmark tests for a possible rMBP, but why is it a rare thing for rumours about the MBP to appear on a site called 'MACRumors'? Every day I switch my computer on, remaining hopeful of an update to the new rMBP, only to be bombarded with leaked pictures and videos of something we've all seen before since 2007 that we call the iPhone.

Come on Apple, do what you do best and keep us (your customers) happy!

All other major laptop manufacturers have Haswell-based laptops out and have large stocks. If Apple don't update to Haswell soon, they'll be far behind competition. I really can't see them pushing Haswell to 2014. October is already pushing the limits IMO.

Agreed this would be my first apple laptop, but if they keep pushing it back I might as well go for a cheaper more resolution yoga pro 2 with over 1.5million more pixels than the retina MacBook Pro 15inch, btw the yoga is only 13inch lol

Yeah I think it's historically accurate to say Apple goes at their own pace - but at this rate, I'd be surprised given industry competition, if the next rMBP update is 'run of the mill'. something important should be coming...otherwise, I tend to agree with the concern for the direction of the company.

Macrumours cannot report on what does not exist. Additionally I find it funny when people bitch at the lack of Mac rumours but the second, and I mean the SECOND interesting news leaks you are hit by a plethora of
"lel dubble doun on secrecy xDDDDD" and it's a ridiculous double standard.

Also, if Steve was still CEO... you'd have this same scenario. 4 year plan, mate.

Everyone just announced their own retina laptops last week in IFA, they're still unavailable. I'm sure the rmbp can catch up even if it is released in october.

The yoga's design reveals the keyboard in the tablet mode which sucks. I think the perfect convertible is the Sony Vaio Flip.

Agreed. Waiting until 2014 would imply a severe supply limit of the relevant chips, and I think that's something we would have already heard about. In fact if they wait until October (likely) I'd have to assume it's for the same reason: supply limitations. Apple isn't unaware of how much these delays will hurt sales.

Apple can lose a lot of market share over this, whether we believe it on this forum or not. It used to be a choice between an amazing-looking metal device or some Dell plastic crap brick, and many people picked Apple for that reason alone. The competition is getting really good at copying all that industrial design stuff, so Apple is now forced to stay competitive on the tech level.

A second gen of that device is on my short list. I'll need to see the reports of durability from a year of use before I'd purchase something with such an untested hinge design.

I hadn't even considered alternatives to the Pro, but that looks pretty damn nice.

This KGI Securities Ming-Chi Kuo geezer has a lot of answering to do for himself. He's led us all up the garden path. First WWDC, and then mid September. I tell you what, if they're not out tomorrow, I'm gna personally hunt him down, find out if he's a him or her first, and then shove the old classic MBP right up where the sun don't shine...

[disclaimer: the above is all in jest. i have neither the ability nor the technology to do such a thing, as i'm using a burnt out late 2008 macbook unibody which is on its last legs - as are the rest of this thread by the sound of it]

lol armchari CEO knows better than real CEO. :p (friendly joking tone)

I'm not sure a lack of leaks or information really counts for much these days with the Macs. I think it's likely just a side effect of being nowhere near as popular as iOS.

This is not a criticism of your post or a defense of Tim Cook. But he is no dummy. He may turn out not to be the guy to be the Apple CEO but IMO it's too soon to tell.

He said he was going to double down on secrecy. Yet we have all these iPhone leaks. And yet going into WWDC we had no idea what we were going to see. I think Cook knows what he can keep secret and what he shouldn't even try and keep a secret.

My theory is that he isn't even trying to keep the iPhone a secret. It keeps almost everyone focussed on and talking about the obvious. New iPhones. This is all so predictable anyway. We knew there was going to be an iPhone 5S in October last year. While all this iPhone chatter is going on Apple is likely keeping their next big thing a massive secret. These leaks are a diversion.

Yes I know. I have looked at both of those 100 times. My point is, that Intel isn't doing anything to stop people from using external GPUs and external GPUs don't work as well as you might think

That is not true.
There have been plenty of products presented on different conventions that show external bays for graphics cards that is based on TB.
And many of them have come with promises of being released soon.
The problem have always been however, that when they have tried to bring them to market Intel have blocked them and not given them the TB certifications.

There are some enclosures made for pci-e cards. But they are not made for graphics cards, and in most situations dont work at all with them. With out seriously hampering performance, and using programs in the background to make it work at all.
And since they are not made for graphics cards they dont come with external power outside of the pci-e port. So almost no graphics cards that are better then the ones you would get from iris pro would work.
And thats why we see these crasy daisy chains of adapters to get external graphics cards to work at all.

This market really could have bloomed.
But we are reduced to daisy chaining adapters and using programs that need to be on in the background to make this work at all.
And its all because of Intel.

Sure TB is not the best port to use for this purpose. But its a start.
And if it becomes a market, we would see new purpose built ports for the application in no time.

The biggest issue with TB in all areas, are Intel. High certification fees and strict rules is keeping the TB market dead.
Until Intel realizes this, the TB market will never start to bloom.

Perhaps. But if hard pressed to guess, I'd say at least 50% of the MBP15 make their selection first and foremost based on power - whether they swim in the same circles as us "shouters" or not. You don't pay that much money for a machine without kicking the tires and asking what's under the hood (Do we?). That leaves the other "uneducated" half getting the machine only because they fear a 13.3" display is too small for their needs and couldn't care less what's inside. (Absolutely nothing to back this up though. :D)

So the more I think about it... if Mavericks compliments the changes to a dGPU-less 15" laptop then Mavericks and Haswell should be presented together as a whole. Just like the MBA was which showed no benchmark gains over its predecessor.

Regardless. I'm just glad I'm a MBP13 user and waiting for Broadwell. :D

DUDE, NOOOO!
Only the worst kind of no clue car buyers, kick the tiers.

Isn't Ming-Chi Kuo a woman?

March: I need a new laptop. But I'll wait another month or two.
May: Cool, new MBP's coming in June!
June: No new MBP's? Only Air? Oh well, they will come in the summer.
July: No sign of new MBP's. August it will be.
August: Maybe on September 10th? Let's hope so!
September: Ah rats, no mention of new MBP's on iPhone event. October.
October: Still no new MBP's???
November: It just doesn't make sense to buy a laptop now that I could have bought in April!
December: Lonely, lonely Christmas...

This is me :(

That's probably true, I bet Apple will unveil some mystery product in the fall, perhaps related to the iWatch (TV or watch:confused:) or maybe a major upheaval of the Apple TV in which we see Apple buying Nintendo and making their games exclusive to the iOS ecosystem.:D
