Morning guys! (Yeah - it's 9am here in Denmark).

Just browsed through Geekbench results, and saw this one from yesterday: http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench2/2287542

An iMac with Haswell running 10.9.

Maybe just a Hackintosh. But if it's true, Apple might be close to releasing Haswell updates.

I can't believe if they'll update the Air and iMac and leave rMBP behind. It's their top og the line product. It should have the latest and greatest.

We'll see tonight at the event!

Don't worry about the MBAs. I can assure you they won't update them for the second time within 2 months..

Where did you get the information that getting rid of the dGPU doesn't help with battery life?

Assuming full load, a quad-core Haswell with Iris Pro uses 47W, while a quad-core Haswell with dedicated graphics like the 750M uses perhaps 90W or even 100W*. The other components use couple of Watts and the screen is in the same order of magnitude as the proc (30W?). So, I would estimate it could save 33% under full, so it can be used up to 50% longer under full load.

I mean, if they would install the 760M GTX, then it would matter, but the 750 M GT doesn't do anything more than Iris Pro, so you are better off without it.

Besides, integrated graphics make cooling simpler, and also reduce the cost.

Last note: it may actually be the case that Apple is waiting for Intel to deliver the processors. Apparently, the production capacity for Haswell 4250/4650 CPUs (with HD 5000) is so low that Apple is still the only (steadily available) supplier. Although Intel 'launched' some Haswell mobile cpus with Iris Pro in June, no vendor has actually brought any notebook with those to the market.

* The actual power usage of Nvidia mobile graphics is the best protected secret in industry, even Notebookcheck doesn't have any info.

Where are your numbers from? You can click on my profile and look at my posts in this thread, where i posted a few (mostly german) real world tests and some information about retina screen power draw and battery sizes. Iris 5200 pro consumes slightly less than a 4700hq+750m combo. But 47w TDP doesn't mean 47w power consumption: http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/grafikkarten/2013/intel-iris-pro-5200-grafik-im-test/6/ Unless they switch to IGZO the main problem with battery life is the retina screen.

This debate about iGPU vs. dGPU is really starting to overheat with a possible upcoming release. It's just a computer and Apple doesn't care some people win a forum war. I really like to go back to compare test and benchmarks and not insulting people for their opinion.

I've been checking MacRumors every day for the last few weeks leading up to today for some sort of news on leaks for a new MBP... just gotta hope Apple pull something out of the bag today other than new iPhones :|

It would be great if the new rMBP:s shows up on the keynote, but a small part of me hope they don't just to see how far we can push this thread :)

Also, a question, how important is a discrete graphics card for a amateur photographer like me? I use Aperture to do a bit of editing of my raw files.

Does apps like Aperture and Photoshop benefit from discrete graphics in the same way as 3D modeling software like Maya and Cinema 4d does?

No leaked part numbers :( It seems pretty bleak for today. But if the news does turn out to be good it will be that much more of a pleasant surprise.

Yes but then you would have endless regret. You would always think of what would happen if you had just waited one more month.

No, it would be quite the other way around for the me. If I later wanted to a Haswell rMBP rather than an Ivy Bridge rMBP (which I doubt), then I would buy the former and sell the latter. The only thing I would regret would be having lived a month (or more) without a Mac.

I'm quite ready to buy an Ivy Bridge rMBP in early October if that is all that will be available during my trip to the States. I will have no regrets.

So will we see new Macbook Pros in 6 hours. There would have to be more leaks by now right?

No no of course not. Tim Cook says they've "doubled down" on secrecy, meaning that it's such a secret not even he knows when they're coming out.

Little excited for the next 6-7h, but probably deeply disappointed for at least the next 30 days.

I bought an Air some days ago, but I just did it for the OS, don't like the design. The black frame around the screen the (r)MBP have looks ways better and the biggest feature for me --> optical out!

Anyone hoping for a "surprise" today -> prepare to be dissapointed :( We'll be lucky if Apple shows us anything beside iPhone's (well, iPad's maybe).

What they want is a retina 13" Air, I don't know why they're in the MBP thread, hoping that the machine is gimped for the people that actually need it - they don't need a quad core CPU, or 16Gb of RAM let alone the dGPU for anything they do.

Fixed. Some of us want all the pixels. Since apple gimped the air with a low res screen, rMBP is the only mac option.

I need a rMBP for my master thesis. I've to run 2-3 VMs at the same time so I need 16GB ram. If the haswell rMBP will not be announced today I have to face a hard problem.
1) Buy a haswell Air with less performance and use it for 1-2 months until the rMBP will be released > the resale price will be much higher i guess cause of haswell architecture
2) Buy a current rMBP and use that for 1-2 monts until the rMBP will be released > lower resale price
3) Buy a current rMBP and use that one until the next refresh (broadwell?)

hard decision .. :/

I have exactly the same problem, but for me it's the bachelor thesis.

Apple really has to release upgraded MacBooks.

Yeah we need our god damn retina screens:mad: And perhaps we like the feeling of owning something with the "pro" moniker in it's name:D But seriously, it's not his place to question the decisions we have thought long and hard about, and if we've decided we want a retina MacBook Pro, you can bet that we've compared all other options and decided that the rmbp is the best option for our personal needs. Well nowI've just spoken for everyone else:D

They are coming in October. Not today. They are going to be released alongside Mavericks with the new mac pros - at a pro event. One big reason: Thunderbolt 2.

Perhaps Apple got a special order of thunderbolt 2 chips and has been stockpiling them for all the new Macs, so they would be in stock for September/October. Also, when do you expect the new iMac and new Mac Mini to come out, as you haven't allotted any time there for the October event. Perhaps you think they'll release it in November, or December, or January, or February, and so on. Do you expect a thunderbolt 2 display as well at the October event, or some time later?

There won't be a pro event while new iPads are coming in october too. And I'm sure we will also hear some news about TB2 today at Intels IDF2013 which will go on parallel at the moscone center 46 miles away from apple. So its imo not very unlikely to see some mac news from apple too.

e: btw. the first intel keynote at 9AM will be held by Intel CEO Brian Krzanich with the topic "Mobilizing Intel" - maybe just a little hope for a rMBP refresh. Otherwise..maybe its all just ******** D:
