There´s no choice for me.. I really need a MBP soon.. even with no major updates. I´m posting this with a White MB from late 2007 and I really need something better. Since I updated it to Lion runs slow and eats RAM too fast.. I think that, for me, the upgrade to the new one would be awesome! What do you think?
The reason why I´m not getting a MBA is I don´t want to buy another laptop till 2018 or so.. and I´m afraid I could have the same problems I do now with the MBA on 3-4 years time..

BTW, I do need to use bootcamp windows and some video edit... worth waiting for haswell? I don't need too much battery (this laptop is 95% at home) and this one last no more than 30 minutes unplugged so... Guess IGZO isn´t a very needed update for me... I do want to feel a powerful mac again, a fluent OS.

Late October is my guess.

What computers are you guys using to last you until the haswell rmbp refresh? Are they on their last legs? Or is it just time for a change?

I want a Mac because the dgpu (of all things) broke on my 2008 HP laptop. Now I'm stuck with vgasave low res output on my 1920x1080 laptop screen. The old CPU I have has no igpu.

Why are you choosing a Mac? Are you switching for the first time? Or is it that you own other Macs but decided to keep the HP. Or is it something else? Is it an Intel or AMD processor? That must really suck.

I hope so too! I'll be in the States for two more weeks and I will buy a 15" rMBP before I depart. I hope it will be the new Haswell model, but I will buy an Ivy Bridge model if the Haswell models have not been released.

We could still be waiting more than two and a half months from now. There is no guarantee that the Haswell MBPs will be released this year. If Apple do not have enough stock on hand to launch by early November, then the launch will have to be delayed until early 2014. Apple will not repeat last year's mistake of prematurely launching the iMac and being unable to satisfy holiday buying season demand.

That is true. But I think these things are ready to go. I'd be willing to bet any amount of money that these things will come out in October and no other future money.

I have basically had no computer since June. So I've really been holding on.

Buying a new computer after three years is a bit too fast, if you ask me. Is there something wrong with your iMac? Is it not suiting your purposes/needs well enough? Or do you just want the higher pixel density and portability of a rmbp? Or is it something I missed?

:D

Agreed, unless there's something wrong with it, or unless you want the portability of the MacBook, it seems a little early to upgrade. I still use my parents' 1997 PowerMac G3 for internet browsing and my 6 year old mid-range PC which is pretty much dead for image/video editing, PowerPoint, excel, word and publisher etc.
My friend's dad owns a very successful market research company and he uses a 2007 iMac for his business dealings, designs, presentations etc. and this has served him well for nearly 7 years - it is still very fast.
I've been saving up for this MBP for 3 years and I earned a little extra money from my parents by getting an A grade in a school exam. Now I'm just waiting to pounce on this new model (maxed-out) the second it arrives! :)

Do I hear 9000? ;)

All speculation aside, does anyone care to weigh in on why the MR community has chosen THIS refresh, of all possible MBP refreshes, to devote such an epic number of posts to?

I understand the "GPU Wars" accounts for a healthy percentage of them, but still, for a refresh that's widely expected to deliver only a nominal performance boost over the current model, it's pretty crazy how much virtual ink has been spilled on this topic. Maybe it's the early benchmark sightings, the fact that Haswell has been on the market in some form for several months already, and perhaps the "underwhelmingness" of a prospective update with potentially worse graphical performance in certain areas, which have combined to foster more debate than usual...?

For the record, I remember "Waiting for Arrandale", but don't remember an 8000-post thread. It's as though the frenzy of the Mac nerds is inversely proportional to the level of interest in Macs/OSX in the public at large. I guess we are feeling a need to overcompensate!

Second gen retina maybe? When the rMBPs launched last year I wanted one immediately, but I also knew you don't buy first gen if you can avoid it. And I knew that HD 4000 wouldn't even be able to handle all of the normal UI rendering at those resolutions, especially if you end up with tons of stuff rendering from dynamic web content on top of it. If you're looking at the 13" 3D anything was out of the question because of the lack of a dGPU.

So basically I've been waiting for this machine since the rMBP announcement last year. I assume I can't be the only one.

How have you been posting to this thread then?

Maxed out 15-inch or 13-inch?

Via a computer. Luckily I have been able to use someone else's in the meantime. I could have bought the current rMBP back in June, but no, that's how much I want the Haswell model.

Ok. What configuration are you going for?

No idea yet, have been leaning towards the 13-inch/8GB/i5 or i7/256 and that's probably what I will get, but things could change. I might even go 15-inch or a maxed-out model of some sorts. Just have to see what is announced. The one thing I do know is that I will be purchasing the day it is available, no exceptions.

I do not currently own a laptop so for me its important that I get it soon due to university! :D

I wonder if Apple will add an Anti-glare BTO option in the haswell rmbps, like they do with the cmbp.

We have 5 computers. 2 of them are Macs ;). I've been replacing old Windows PC's with Apple and doing boot camp. I have yet to replace my main PC.

The HP laptop is "my" main PC. I use it all the time. I think because It has all my personal stuff over the past 5 years. It just feels perfect when I use it.

But now with the dgpu dying I figure I should finally upgrade "MY" computer.

I've been trying to hold out for the latest Apple rmbp 15. I always buy best I can since I plan to keep for a long time. 756GB HD 16GB ect.

I own a 2009 pc notebook that by itself need to be changed since is getting slower and slower.

I nee also the portability and battery life of a MB but I don't like the MBA screen moreover i use lightroom so a retina display is a natural choice.

100% sure I will buy it the first day it comes out. 99% I will buy the base model unless the 256gb is cheaper than now.
