Zero percent? Really? I wonder what the percentage of people who buy anti-glare cmbps are?

Apple reduced glare with the rMBP display, and I think they just wanted to get rid of that option overall. I'm not against it, but I think everyone pretty much agrees that Apple won't be bringing it back.

Definitely 15", I need 16GB RAM, the higher resolution, dGPU and 512GB SSD.

I understand the need for 16 GB of RAM, although that might be added as a BTO in the 13-inch in the haswell refresh. Is the resolution difference that big of a deal for you? There will be most likely no DGPU in the 15-inch rmbp, and the difference between intel integrated HD graphics 5100 and 5200 is pretty small. A 512 GB SSD is already attainable in the present 13-inch MacBook Pro.

Perhaps Apple will again try to reduce the glare of the rmbps. I don't really care for the option too much, and it's probably purchased by only a very small percentage of MBP buyers.

In terms of the graphics work I do, and my experience playing with both models in the Apple Store, I reckon I'm going to need the extra screen space and resolution, even whilst the difference in the latter is small, it is nonetheless a difference and you can also scale the display to a wider variety of resolutions on the 15" than on the 13".

As for the SSD issue, 16GB RAM & a 512GB SSD are both standard in the standard config top of the range 15", whereas you cannot get 16GB RAM in the 13" and the SSD is a BTO option, which means I get a better deal in terms of my student discount with the 15".

Second gen retina maybe? When the rMBPs launched last year I wanted one immediately, but I also knew you don't buy first gen if you can avoid it. And I knew that HD 4000 wouldn't even be able to handle all of the normal UI rendering at those resolutions, especially if you end up with tons of stuff rendering from dynamic web content on top of it. If you're looking at the 13" 3D anything was out of the question because of the lack of a dGPU.

So basically I've been waiting for this machine since the rMBP announcement last year. I assume I can't be the only one.

You're not the only one. I wanted the 15" retina since the day it came out. But I know never to buy a first gen Apple product. Especially one that's costs $2,500+. Been waiting ever since, and my 2009 is driving me nuts. I thought it was the HD but now they're telling me I need a new processor.

What computers are you guys using to last you until the haswell rmbp refresh? Are they on their last legs? Or is it just time for a change?

Holding on with my mid-2009 13" MBP. I've been going through hard drives and SATA cables for two years, just replaced my MagSafe, and I'm starting to get battery warnings. I can probably only get my local Apple Store to do free repairs without AppleCare for so long before the manager gets upset :p I did install 8gb of RAM and was going to wait for Mavericks in the hope of throwing some life into it, but the hardware seems to be going anyway. My SATA cable has decided to disconnect about once a week now.

With all of that, I'm writing my senior thesis next semester, so I need a new laptop that will function properly and not potentially lose files. I'm sick of the problems I've had with a first gen product, so I'm waiting for the refresh. The Air just isn't for me.

Oh man, that's what Dropbox is for.

I should know, since my iMac HD failed a few months ago I'm writing papers on my old 2006 PowerPC Powerbook G4  that has no battery and I've hard-wired in the power supply because the duck connector thing kept breaking. Also can't update anything anymore on the PPC architecture, so my websurfing is probably insanely unsafe. Gmail works but literally tells me every time to "Upgrade to a modern browser like Google Chrome." I'm amazed DropBox works on it. It was actually maxed-out top of the line when I bought it, and would still be handling stuff well enough if not for the switch to Intel and subsequent drop of application support.

So yeah, I'm looking forward to Haswell.

Oh man, that's what Dropbox is for.

I didn't have a laptop for my thesis.. cloud storage all the way.

Surprisingly my hard drive has never fully crashed to the point where I lost data. They replaced them because of signs of corruption. My main issue is SATA cables going bad or disconnecting.

I use externals to backup files just in case. Haven't quite embraced the cloud probably because I can't run iCloud on SL and can't store everything in Dropbox that I want to. And with a 500gb hard drive I can't quite let go of having access to all of my files at any point whether I have internet or not. Internet speeds are the other thing holding me back; college apartment complexes don't usually want to provide their tenants with usable speeds.

I hear that; all the space in the world won't do any good if the speed isn't available.

Buying a new computer after three years is a bit too fast, if you ask me. Is there something wrong with your iMac? Is it not suiting your purposes/needs well enough? Or do you just want the higher pixel density and portability of a rmbp? Or is it something I missed?

:D

I need a portable machine. Correction: It's a 2009 iMac.

Actually the difference between the Iris 5100 and Iris Pro 5200 is quite substantial...

Well, I thought I had seen a benchmark for them on Anandtech, but it turns out it was something else. I actually haven't seen an Intel HD 5100 benchmark yet, so perhaps you could enlighten me on that.

Game benchmarks:

Iris - http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Iris-Graphics-5100.91977.0.html

Iris Pro - http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Iris-Pro-Graphics-5200.90965.0.html

In terms of other uses there should still be significant improvements because the TDP of Iris is only 28, while Iris Pro is a whopping 47.

But Iris will be quite the fast pup for a 13" :D

What are the chances of Apple offering a Iris Pro option for the 13" rMBP?
I'm not really satisfied with the Iris 5100 performance cause it is sub-par than the graphics in my 3 year old laptop and i really want to switch to a smaller Macbook but still want the graphics performance i'm used to.

None. See my post above, the TDP of Iris Pro iGPU is 48, which is beyond what they 13" could potentially handle in its chassis.

Doubt it. Apple seems to be trying to get away from that. And besides, they have the Retina display.

How many gigabytes of memory will the Iris Pro have access to? My understanding is that integrated graphics share system memory, right? These days the majority of cards have either 1GB or 2GB onboard, but if you've only got 8 gigs of system memory, that's really going to start cutting into your resources.

The 13 " rMBP has two fans so they might be able to put a Iris Pro in. And if you think otherwise at least let me think that so i can feel better about the thing i want but might not get.

And I thought we agreed that it can handle 48W just fine?

They won't be doing it right nowwww though. It's likely possible for the next re-model in a year or two. Whenever they push out quads for the 13"

I'd like to hear more about this too. Because 1-2GB of dRAM is really fast. But let's say 4 out of 8GB of ram that Iris Pro has access too would 1) hinder your system because 2 units are trying to access RAM at once, and 2) RAM is much slower than dRAM

I actually ordered it in a rush after the event, but cancelled it when I had cleared my mind and thought about it :D

A year's waiting is almost over! Looking so much forward to October! rMBP release, and hopefully Mavericks release! Mav is the best release since Snow Leopard IMO.
