I'm hoping for pretty good battery live because the ivy bridge battery life isn't quite there yet... it's a little bad...

Me to. That is all I care about.
I would like to run iWork/Keynote on external projector with laptop brightness set to low for 7-8 hours.

For power I will buy Mac Pro whenever they will release it.

For sure the new rMBP is already in production, at least since august (Recall this end-of-august rumor).

Then we got this dell notebook equipped with the same 28W CPU as the 13" rMBP to be delivered from october 10th.

Then for sure Maverick will be released this fall ("coming this fall" directly from Apple.com). It will need a keynote for it, and we have a keynote rumored for Oct 15th.

Finally this keynote may include both new Ipads and new rMBPs and new IMacs and Maverick. Last year keynote (same period!) included both Ipad and Macs, and they presented a brand new 13" rMBP, not only a refresh as the one we are all waiting.

Oh, I forget, rMBP stocks are falling in these days, the same for prices.

Given this FACTS, I'm moderately optimistic about an October release for rMBP.

Hi,guys,been away for two weeks.

Is there any news about the release date?
September,October,2014,2015?)

If this is the case then more leaks should start trickling in soon.

Well, not necessarly.

You must consider that, although the subject of a 8000+ posts discussion, this is just a CPU update of an existing mac (a decisive update since it solves all problems of first gen rMBP - and this is the reason of such attentions - but still a CPU update).

Mac alone receives a small fraction of attention (and hence rumors) of Ipads and Iphones. Moreover the little attention devoted to the mac world is now covered by the new Mac Pro and Maverick.

We will be lucky if we get a short mention on one single rumor before the keynote.

If instead they delay the update to 2014 I think I will be forced to buy current gen, but I will first check that maverick has at least partially solved the lag problem.
And you guys, what you gonna do if Apple shifts haswell to 2014?

If they shift the release to 2014 I'm definitely getting the current gen. Doesn't the lag issue only occur when running on the iGPU anyway?

Some serious anger management!

ps. are you sure it is only a CPU-update? Faster Wifi? Tunderbolt 2? Faster integrated GPU? Longer battery life (ok thanks to Haswell, but it is an important issue for me.)

I hope that one rumor before the next event is some sort of model number leak :D That would be all I need.

IMO the likelihood of Apple waiting until 2014 to release Haswell rMBP's is around 1%. After all mobile computing is their focus. The rMBP line is new for them. This isn't 2011-2012 and the Mac Pro.

But if Apple waits until 2014 I will do the only thing one can do to show displeasure and that is to not buy old technology at new technology prices and continue to wait.

The 13" model has just iGPU.

What I hope is that a software fix (Maverick) may reduce significantly the lag issue although only the iGPU massive improvement with Haswell will yield a mature machine.

GPU and battery life is Haswell. Yes I forget faster wi-fi and thunderbolt 2, but are marginal improvements, at least from my point of view.

--------

I agree, it's much more likely to have this Mac available in one month, and I hope so. But for the end of November I need it in any case since my needs will drastically change and portability will becomes a key factor for me (no need the extreme portability of the air and I dislike it's screen, but a 3kg notebook with 1 hour battery life is not good at all to carry with you on a daily basis).

I do agree though, this update seems too insignificant to hold back for 2014, unless it contains stuff we don't know about (yet).

Let's just hope it's October.

A year's waiting is almost over! Looking so much forward to October! rMBP release, and hopefully Mavericks release! Mav is the best release since Snow Leopard IMO.

Except for the name. Places in California - what a poorly concieved idea– it's unusual for Apple to think so small. Can't wait for OSX Inglewood.

Been following this thread for some time and thought I would get involved as well.

Currently have a 2008 Macbook. Upgraded the RAM to 4GB (I think it used to be 2GB!) and replaced a drive that failed. It has done a lot of work, but there are now keys missing, it gets very hot (fan is probably a bit clogged) and the screen is cracked. It has been well used though so I can't complain, but it is time for a refresh and I think 5 years is a reasonable time to do so.

I think that I am in the same boat in many here (and on other forums) that are looking for the following:

Lightweight ultrabook
Resolution exceeding Full HD
8GB + RAM (or unsoldered but this is very unlikely in ultrabooks now)
128GB + SSD
i5/i7 Haswell Chips

Despite this, it is incredibly hard to find this.

Samsung released the ATIV Book 9 + but there is no sign of the i7 model or anything above 4GB RAM and it is soldered

ASUS have put forward the UX301/UX302 but no pricing or release dates yet

There is little else to be seen :(

This is why I have held out for the rMBP, I almost bought a VAIO PRO last week but figured it was best to wait. It is very annoying though having an almost unfunctional laptop at home, and still having to wait (been waiting for months)

Anyway, i am yet another one to share your plight :p

Hopefully we will hear something at the start of October and they will ship shortly after!

Also I don't understand why people are opting for 512GB SSDs on here ! Can't really justify them at that price !

Finally, do people think that the MBP will have an optical drive or not? I would much rather have a 128GB SSD and a 1 TB HDD or similar...

Welcome to our very sad, very frustrating club. At least we're not lonely here. Misery and company and all that.

Everyone's financial situation and computer needs are different, that's why. Many people need a fast read/write time on their various projects and have the money to afford it. I can't afford it but will definitely bump up to 512GB anyway because I can't stand to worry about space a couple years down the road and I'm a photographer with increasingly larger RAW and PSD files that I keep on the main drive while working on a particular project. With the rMBP there's no easily upgrading the SSD, so just getting it now even though prices will continue to drop over time.

The rMBP obviously won't, and it's an open question as to whether the unibody cMBP will stick around for another revision or not. The longer we go, the more unlikely that seems. Don't get your hopes up for a Haswell-based cMBP that you can pop an HD into in place of the optical drive. Almost certainly not going to happen.

Thanks for the reply.

No worries if there isn't the option for 2 drive bays, was more that if there was an optical drive I'd probably be taking it out to make space for a drive bay. Not much need to an internal optical drive these days...

As for the SSD statement, I used to work in 3D / video editing & would almost always have to work from an external drive anyway. With USB 3.0 and/or thunderbolt you'll get good enough transfer speeds anyway.

If you have the money to spend then its fine, but for me the value would be in maxing out ram (as i presume its going to be soldered)

Just realized this thread has had over 1,000,000 views!

I think we will surpass 30x30x10 posts before the Haswell MBP is launched...

Since I'm looking around for an application to run a windows program on OSX (basic program, not games or 3D) , help me.
It's better parallels or VMWfusion on a Retina Mac? Moreover since the program (scientific workplace) is pretty old, is better to install XP (lighter, less space on disk required) or windows 7?

Ideally (but I don't know if possibile) I want an app such that I don't even have to see the windows desktop.
Just click on my windows program icon directly from OSX and this application (using a virtual machine) let me work with scientific workplace.
