I think here's a small "clue" as well. Newegg's newsletter includes a deal on the 15" rMBP.

"Apple MacBook Pro Intel Core i7 16GB DDR3 512GB SSD 15.4" Retina display Mac OS X v10.8 Mountain Lion (ME665LL/A) "

Listed: $2,644.99
After discount: $2,584.99

Of course, nothing to see here, just that I haven't seen a lot of MBP deals from Newegg in the recent past. (It could just be me though)

Since I'm looking around for an application to run a windows program on OSX (basic program, not games or 3D) , help me.
It's better parallels or VMWfusion on a Retina Mac? Moreover since the program (scientific workplace) is pretty old, is better to install XP (lighter, less space on disk required) or windows 7?

Ideally (but I don't know if possibile) I want an app such that I don't even have to see the windows desktop.
Just click on my windows program icon directly from OSX and this application (using a virtual machine) let me work with scientific workplace.

I use Oracle's VirtualBox. Never had any problems with it, it just seems to work.

If you do use XP, would you need internet access within XP? XP support ends in April 2014, this will open up a huge number of security risks / 0day vulnerabilities etc. If you want to use XP I would advise installing it legit in a VM, use snapshots & don't allow internet access. It doesn't really matter that much if all you are doing in XP is using that software but be careful. Better safe than sorry.

I don't have personal experience with the XP mode in Windows 7 and 8. Is that a good enough solution?

yes but all of this news come from the same source, the same source that claimed 10th Sept for iphone event...so it is 100% for sure

Anyone still think there is a chance of a silent update tomorrow?

I'm not counting on anything but for sure I'll be checking the Apple online store tomorrow morning :D

I don't think so, but it will be a nice gift from Apple.

Apple store should go down for a while tomorrow in case of a silent update.

It works poorly.

But you can install it and then install VMware Player which then picks up the XP Mode Image and lets you run it thru VMware which is 200% better!

Also, it is FREE for non-commercial usage.

Have Apple in the past made upcoming new MBP´s averrable for preorder on apple store ? or do we have to wait for release date to place orders on the Haswell rMBP ?

 Let's review your logic with an example.

Let's say I predicted the Patriots would start the season 3-0. Turns out I was correct. I then predict that the world will end on October 15. Is that 100% too.

People make guesses (sometimes educated, sometimes not) all the time, so by definition, some of them are simply going to be right. Absent a consistent track record of accuracy, they're nothing more than that. And even as they say in the stock market, past performance is not a guarantee of future returns. Even if you do think this source is somewhat reliable, attaching a "100% for sure" part to the end is utterly and completely laughable.

As an aside, I especially love that your comment comes on the heels of your linking the LA Times article, which states, and I quote:

MacGeneration has a spotty track record when it comes to Apple rumors, so take its report with a grain of salt.

No chance you'll see preorders on this, other than if you consider it a "preorder" if it's shipping in 5-7 or 7-10 days. (But that's very, very unlikely at this point, given that there's no "usual" Apple event like WWDC dictating the release schedule and thus causing the tail to wag the dog, so they will obviously only announce models when they're actually ready to go.)

So, for school, (photoshop, illustration, cinema 4d, some final cut pro X) should I get the 15", or the 13"?

15 for power but 13 for mobility i guess? :D

I also might want to use external monitor, will the graphicscard make that better in the 15?

Just my two cents; the rumor specualtes Ipad(s), imac, macbook pros....where is is mac pro? Unless I am mistaken. I think for there to be a release of macbooks, imacs, and mac pros all have to be ready, and since WWDC they toyed with us with the mac pro, there will not be an event releaseing any other computer based mac w/o the pro being with it. Also, I will have more believe a rumor when it includes this, and is substantiated by more then one source. Now, given all things. A release is emanate, so if it is tomorrow or a month. We all only have a little longer to wait.

and Yes, I have been waiting half a year for my macbook pro, I am ready.

This.
Thank you for keeping it real. There's enough misinformation out there.

I'm looking forward to October. I really do believe that they'll update the Retina MacBook Pro's alongside the release of the new Mac Pro. I think actually they'll do the iMac, Mac Pro and MacBook Pro at the same time, maybe with an event and then the Mac Mini will have a silent update at the same time which won't be mentioned on stage.

That's my guess. Maybe I'll treat myself and get a new Mac Pro too :D

Go with the 13", that's plenty good enough and the 15" chassis (although not heavy) can be a bit big. Can't comment on external monitor usage but I'm fairly certain it will be perfectly adequate in most every use.
