23% OFF the June 2012 retina model? wow. something is brewing :)

Yes, there's an awful lot (17) of refurbished MBPs on the UK site, some with up to 20% off! Surely something's coming soon; we've all been waiting long enough...

Apple has been selling the 2012 Baseline for $1599 for about 3,4 months now.

But many other retailers are doing big deals and lots of them too which doesn't usually happen!

Yes I know I'm clutching at straws but who isn't on this thread? We're all just do damn desperate for this new machine to come out ASAP!!!

Thanks for the technical clarification, thekev.

Sorry if I seemed to be furthering common misconceptions in my post, but please note that my primary reason for recommending the 15" for this user was for the additional screen real estate, and that I referred to the more powerful GPU simply as "icing on the cake" for his intended uses.

I don't see how one would construe any technical inaccuracies in the sentence: "The fact that the 15" will presumably come with a more powerful GPU than the 13" is icing on the cake."

Oh yeah I agree with you on the screen real estate, but I think all notebooks are cramped. I think it just fills me with rage irks me that the benchmarking sites sometimes post benchmarks that confuse people, which is how the rumors that anything graphics related requires a powerful gpu get started when it's really more of an "it depends" situation. I didn't mean for it to take on such a lecture tone (just read my own post back).

The other poster also mentioned an external display. I don't think I could do that kind of work with just a notebook screen. I don't typically use fcpx, but 3d packages tend to use a lot of real estate given how often you may need to split panes (perspective/UV editor when modeling comes to mind). In either case the serious work may be tied to one location. I'm personally a little puzzled that the 15" is regarded as heavy or bulky by some people on here. It's much bigger than my phone, but I can't think of a situation where I would feel comfortable bringing the 13" and not the 15".

In context with the overall thread, some of intel's haswell implementations appear fairly favorable in terms of openCL performance, but I would like to see how they perform under OpenGL. The older ones are absolutely painful for me, but I use too many polygons in my personal projects.

Having been busy with my sparkly 5s for the past 3 or 4 days, I've neglected this thread and have come back to find rumours of a silent upgrade today/tomorrow!?!?!

Mmm... seems like a lot of wishful thinking and hoping more than anything else.

Can't see Apple doing that so close to the iphones being released. I still got my money on the backend of October/early Nov.

Be nice if I were wrong though.

There is so much iPhone 5C and 5S hype right now, Im afraid it would cloud the Mac press release if they did a silent refresh so soon.......could be wrong, but there is a lot going on at Apple right now. They may wait until the hype settle in a couple of weeks and folks have their new phones and then start up again with all sorts of chaos on October 15th (rumored date for next event).

Well that makes the situation a bit different. Did you see this coming when you bought your iMac?

Did I see needing a new machine in 4 years when I bought it? I knew I would eventually need a laptop, but the iMac was the best solution in 2009. A laptop is the best solution now for me. I'm actually thinking about buying a Surface 2 for a secondary computer, and then use my upgraded iMac when I'm home.

My goodness, this thread is miles long. :)

Anyway, i'm waiting myself. I had a 15" but it ran very hot. I presently have the Ret 13, which doesn't at all. The quads really put-out.

Point is that the heat bugs me so I sold it deciding to wait for the cooler chips.

Should be soon. I wouldn't think much more than a month (or less).

Apparently, theres an Oct 12ish date floating around.

October 12th? That's a Saturday. The 15th is the date for the rumored iPad/Mac event. Welcome to the wait.

God, I'm having traumatized flashbacks to all the insufferable certainty around here before WWDC months ago.

If it doesn't come out next month, I may need to seek therapy.

My MacBook Pro seems to be a barometer for when a refresh isn't coming (had it repaired just before WWDC and again today) so it may very well be October! Tomorrow doesn't look good though.

This thread seems to be about evenly balanced between plausible analysis on the one hand and superstition (including numerology) on the other hand.

The idea that Apple would have a new Mac model ready to ship and then would delay release to be either nearer to or farther from the release of Mavericks or an iOS product seems to be without any basis in history, logic, or reason.

The release schedule for Mavericks has probably been planned since the WWDC. The release date for new Macs is probably set about two weeks before release. Why the difference? Mavericks is entirely within Apple's control. Macs are subject to production surprises outside of Apple's control.

Perhaps so, but we cannot base anything off of this. Why can't these so-called "analysts" actually predict something. Most of their predictions have been wrong so far, but any kind of rumour would help many people here stave off the temptation of buying a new computer.

Not much to left to predict now. We're down to October.

Don't worry guys I've contacted a higher authority and she's pretty convinced the updated Retina MacBook Pro's are coming next month. :D

Well, we don't actually know if Apple will release it in October, because if Apple doesn't have the enough stocks due to some manufacturing problem, as mcarling has repeatedly meantioned, Apple will delay the launch of the rmbp.

Sorry but I don't think, thats not how it works. At least not in any company I worked for. The ship date is set when the program is passing the execution commit milestone or whatever that is called in Apple. It shouldn't be the supply chain influencing it on the last mile and for sure isn't. The release can be shifted by the executive team for marketing reasons but they are aware that supply chain is driving material for millions of dollars which doesn't matter so much on a weekly basis for plenty reasons I will not go into.
