I too am willing to wait for Christmas in October.

I have waited since May. I am not giving up now, regardless how much stuff I need to do. I can always find ways. But when they come in a few weeks, you can bet I'm buying day of with no hesitation.

You need 8gb for this next one months time? You won't find many, and possibly no 8gb MBA on craigslist. They are rare. Just use 4gb to hold you over for one month until rMBP releases.

I can definitely make do with 4gigs, but I know it will be pushing it. But I can do it. This might be a great option. Off to CL. Thanks guys.

Hi there,

First post for a first time mac buyer. I am sick to death of PCs burning out on me. I've been watching/lurking this thread for a while after checking the buyers guide for weeks before that and I'm with you all, waiting on the new pros...

However....

I'm starting to think that I could be waiting for nothing if the 13" cMPB will do the job well enough, or more to the point, if the new ones will make much of a difference.

I'm a musician using mostly ableton and various other DAWs. I'm wondering will the new Haswells make any difference to me other than battery life? Will any of the predicted new features/upgades? Or will they infact hinder me in any way?

I am aware that I am asking some possibly stupid questions, but you all seem so well informed and friendly, that I'm hoping someone can help me out. This is a whole new (and exciting) world for me.

Thanks in advance and sorry for the huge first post.

You won't regret it. As long as you buy the base MBA for $950 or under, or the 256gb base model for $1075 or under, I can almost guarantee an instant resell 1 month from now for exactly what you paid for it, +/- $50.

I have flipped more macbooks than I can count on CL. If you buy, only buy from people who have original box & stuff (receipt is not necessary).

Nope, no big difference other than battery life. But the Haswell rMBP will bring other improvements besides the processor.

I'd say it's worth waiting the few weeks.

That sounds great!

Here's what I just did. Looked around on CL, not too many good deals close by.

Picked up a Haswell 13" MBA i5/4/128 from the refurb store - $991. I don't mind selling this at a loss in a few months as long as it's something like $100.

I really hope I can get by with 4GB. (Using 6Gigs as we speak :D) But it's only temporary. Good call aiyaaabatt! Thanks.

So is it Windows or OS X? :p

any chances that the retina macbook pros will come down in price?

i really want one but cant afford to spend over $1,500

Why not go for 755 and OC it anyway...?

755 is the same GK107 Kepler Chip as it was in GT650M.

That's the problem right there. Same chip, same cooling, can't OC any farther. The 750m is an OC'd 650m, which is already what Apple included last year. 750, 755, either way you're going to be pretty much at the limit unless you can give it more power and handle more heat. This won't change until the next actual NVidia chips come out next year.

You win the prize. On a good day, my battery life is about 2 hours. That's a good day. Other days, it goes from fully charged to dead battery - no warning at all.

Well the worst part is my charger weighs in at around 800g (1.76lbs for u americans) so I HAVE to carry my charger around with me, which adds on to my laptop's 2.4kg (5.3lbs) bulk.

:(

I suppose one good thing to come out of the Haswell rMBP delay is that we will be able to use Mavericks from the get-go.

More I read about Nvidia 700m series the more I dislike it. Minimal performance improvements with the same or slightly higher wattage than 600m series. This sucks. Now I wish for iris pro only in my future (very near I hope) rMBP 15. I want my laptop cool with great battery life and still powerful.

I'll admit that I'm coming to the same conclusion. I'm all for a dGPU if it's a significant step up from the Iris Pro, but it becomes much less attractive if the difference is negligible.

Obviously it's pointless to speculate until we see the complete picture (i.e. real world tests in conjunction with the actual Haswell CPU), but it's hypothetically looking like the dGPU so many were pining for will end up being just as underwhelming as the iGPU they were dreading. ;)

Of course nothing is certain. But nobody other than you actually thinks Apple wouldn't release these in October.

I think they probably will be released this October, but I have no problem with the fact that I don't know when they'll be released. Early November wouldn't surprise me at all either.
