Apple Stores don't sell custom built macs so I have to make sure I can buy the model I want there.

Just curious but when the new models come out how many of us are ordering it immediately and how many of us are waiting for reviews first?
Personally I'm ordering it as soon as it goes on sale.

I think there will be a silent refresh this Tuesday.

I'm guessing all those blank lines might have been meant to signify silence.
I used to think the same, but displays beyond Apple's Retina do look better. Have a read of this excellent article on the topic: http://www.cultofmac.com/173702/why-retina-isnt-enough-feature/
Based on that, you'd need an 8k display on the rMBP for true Retina.
Also, I think they would call it "Retina +"
Any chances the base model retina with get more than 256 GB SSD?
What is the likely hood that there is a quad core / 16gb option on the 13"?

Apparently they do stock models with popular custom configurations such as maxed out ram and ssd.

Absolutely not. There is zero chance the base SSD capacity will increase from 128GB to more than 256GB in one step, skipping over 256GB. Not long ago, Apple were still offering 64GB SSD in the base MacBook Air. 128GB is ample for many people. I expect the base configuration will remain 128GB (for 13" models) but an increase to 160GB or 192GB or, at most, 256GB is possible. I think it will be years before Apple make the base SSD configuration more than 256GB,

Approximately zero if you mean a Haswell version. With Broadwell, about a year from now, I think there is a very good chance Apple will introduce a quad-core 13" MBP. Chances for a 16GB BTO option or high-end configuration 13" Haswell MBP are better.

Oh cool well I'll buy it there on Day 1 then.
Yes.The base 15 inch rMBP comes with 256gb as standard already. e 15 have 512gb with the Haswell release.
It would not be nice for people don't need such capacity. It is much more important to keep the entry-level prices down. People who need more can order more.It would be nice to see the base 13 have 256gb and base 15 have 512gb with the Haswell release.
Yes, your local Apple store should have some on Day 1, but maybe only standard configurations and maybe not enough. Shipments arrive early mornings -- a few hours before the store opens. So if they announce the new rMBP upgrades and say "available today" like they have for all rMBP's since day one, my local Apple store would have it in stock (located in Montreal, Quebec)? And they get it that morning or later that day?

Missing one period of school probably isn't worth it. I don't think that the rmbps are so popular that they'll sell out if you don't get there 1hour~ earlier.
Haha, take that 8K doubters. I'm calling it now, in 10-15 years we might start to see the standardization of 8K.
Exactly. Not to mention that the 27" is already better than HD quality. How much more do you really need?
I'd like to see the power draw on the 21.5" with Iris. I really like seeing the Iris Pro in the base model. That is plenty for most people.
Looks like a nice setup. With 4k monitors still costing 3K+, it will probably be a year or so before we see a 27" retina monitor. I've been using the 1440p 27" size for a while and love it. I doubt I would need 4k, especially since I sit ~3-4' away.
Of course, there is no guarantee that every Apple store will have every popular configuration on Day 1. They might also run out of some or all configurations. If you live in an area with multiple Apple stores, you might want to phone around first.
I'm to talking about "sales" tax. Read the fine print on your carriers bill:The taxes here in the States haven't changed. They've always charged tax on the full price, not the contract price.
