I guess I will suffer until Sept/Oct

We can suffer together :(

I'm with you guys....I've waited since Feb and it's June. Was hoping to have this in my hands by mid-June, but apple disappointed me.

I feel waiting is my best option because 1) I'm stubborn. I want the Haswell processor and, damn it, I'm going to get one(hopefully) and 2) I can see myself purchasing the current rMBP only to have the new one released a month or 2 later. I'll be so pissed and might just end up buying the latest just to have it.

I'll hold off as long as I can with my current laptop and hope the new one comes before October. I just have to tell myself October.

/where's that jackhole Kuo hiding? :)

Not announcing it has raised the bar , Thunderbolt 2 , better displays etc are all being expected rather then a simply cpu bump.

Add PCIe SSD to the list of things to expect for a Haswell rMBP.

It could be a strategy. There's been complaints from the beginning that the rMBP is too similar to the Airs. So suppose Apple announces rMBPs in september for shipping late in the year, but they include TB2 ? All of a sudden, the differentiator is that the rMBP can do 4K and the MBA can't. Reducing the battery size while still increasing battery life, the rMBP suddenly is a very attractive story.

It's just a theory. For me, I'm certain any Air would be more than sufficient and I'll be waiting a bit longer to decide before finally going Mac.

Peter.

Some of you are going to be bitterly disappointed in September/October when the rMBP is refreshed with only Haswell.

This talk of IGZO/PCIe SSD/etc/etc. is 100% speculation in attempt to justify waiting. This is the definition of the Apple "eternally waiting for the next best thing" cycle. Several of you are looking at over 9 months of lost time on a fantastic machine because you are waiting for something in your imagination.

Buy it, use it, sell it, buy the new one if it is that important.

PCIe is a certainty. The Air got it, the Pros will get it.

not to mention the ac adapter.

its simple, apple uses economies of scale, whenever they can get the same piece they will.

I also hope its NGFF aka M.2 so it drives more economies and allows us to change the storage

Still Waiting

Haswell is Intel's first new micro architecture since 2011, when it introduced Sandy Bridge. It follows Intel's Tick-Tock strategy where it launches a new processor family every year and a new architecture every other year. Therefore, I buy a new computer every two years with the newest micro
architecture. So, it's worth waiting for Haswell.

Maybe they will do a silent update over the next month or so? Unless they are planning an event to let people know that they are merging the cMBP and rMBP into one, and basically dissolving the cMBP! Who knows with APple these days. It is a slap in the face for them not updating their full notebook line while PCs have HASWELL!

Or they could release the rMBP sometime in July with an iMac Haswell update.

On July 27, 2010, they updated the iMacs with Sandy Bridge. What if they do the same this year?

Welp ladies and gentlemen, I am out. Went to the Apple store last night and bought my rMBP. This is a matter of need though. I'm a web dev and I have painted myself into a corner of time-crunch due to not having a laptop over the last several weekends.

Ah the ol' saying, if you can wait, wait. If you need it, buy it.

But I have to say, even though I ended up waiting for nutin', it didn't spoil the joy of getting my new macbook yesterday. And knowing that this will be the sickest computer I have ever owned is pretty nice. I actually still haven't opened it yet. Some strange tradition (or obsessive compulsive thing?) that I always do. But tonight is unboxing time!

Well, good luck to you all who are going to continue the wait. If I could, I would be there with you. Hope you don't have to wait too long.

Cheers!

too much for the fall?

Dont you guys think that if they wait till fall; that would put so much of their product launches in 1 quarter. thats why there stock is so low. they release so much stuff in the 4th quarter (iPad4, iPhone5, Mac mini, iMac, RMBP 13") and then they release nothing but tiny spec bumps till june? now you guys think they are bringing the The 15" RMBP into the 4th quarter? that seems like an aweful lot of product launches for 1 quarter. they should spread it out so people dont think they are sitting standing still and resting on their laurels. I really hope it comes with PCI-e flash too. that sounds crazy fast!

Guys. WWDC is June 10-14, right? Can't the new macbooks not still be released today, or tomorrow, or the 13/14th?

My friend and I got our 15" retina Macbook Pros yesterday. No regrets. :p

Waiting a few extra months for Haswell? Ain't nobody got time fo' dat!

Besides if it's that much better I can sell this one and get a Haswell one anyway. No reason to suffer in the mean time though :p

I would say to all buy now, I bit the bullet and bought a 13" rMBP in March and I now realise I was better off buying a laptop when I needed it, instead of waiting for something which may never arrive, or satisfy my checklist.

Life's to short etc etc etc......

Beeen waiting for the Keynote since the date was announced - therefore disappointed from yesterday. Looking to buy a 15" rMBP with 16GB RAM and a 768 GB SSD. The purpose is mainly music production in Ableton Live / lots of plugins. Currently have a FW400 audio interface just to connect to my monitors, will probably switch to an USB one (so TB2 won't be too necessary I guess). Battery life is not too important to me.

Will the possible next upgrade be significant for my purposes? My main point of concern is that they might introduce the option to upgrade to 1TB SSD, which I would appreciate. How realistic is that? And how relevant is the WiFi upgrade to normal users (using wifi just for internet)?

If you guys give me a Go, I might run and buy tomorrow ;)

Cheers,
tim

I think that might be likely. However, it would be a complete ripoff (like $1000 to upgrade from 512GB). I say buy now!

Does the new SSD makes a big performance difference, so if i compare a new MBA 1.7 i7, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD vs rMBP 13" 3.0 i7, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD, what would be the performance difference? there is about 300$ extra on the rMBP..

The rMBP will perform better. The Air will seem faster for all disc based tasks like turning on the computer.

Thanks B... so it means the rMBP will preform better for daily heavy office work, PPT, Excel, omni graffle, outlook, etc. these Apps consumes the SSD a lot too.

Yes. But the Air will have better battery life.
