Would even the entry-level Macbook Pro option ($1,199) theoretically have haswell and the battery life increase? Or an improved display?

If apple decides not to axe the original MBP line, it should come with haswell, which would lead to more efficiency and hence, a likely increase in battery life.

I doubt the display would be improved and this was answered when they released the 13" retina.

I just decided I don´t want to wait any longer, so Apple will release the Haswell MRPrs next Tuesday (8.10.) and let us upgrade to Mavericks for free.

There´s some logic for you: Me wants it. My precious. So Apple will do it. :D

thats some wishfull thinking.. doubt we gonna see a silent release  I want my new macbook pro too now!

Another reason why I would not be surprised if Apple were to release the Haswell MBPs with 10.8.5 before the release of Mavericks (assuming, of course, that enough Haswell MBPs have been produced) is that many customers (including me) are wary of *.0 software releases. I know many people who will wait for 10.9.1 or 10.9.2 before upgrading to Mavericks. Apple may not want people to delay their Haswell MBP purchases while waiting for the initial bugs to be worked out.

As others have said about lots of things, people on this forum care about say, 10.9.1 compared to 10.9.0. But the average consumer doesn't, especially those coming from Windows. Once I got iOS 7.0 running I had few issues except battery life. 7.0.2 now and I haven't had most of the iMessage issues that have been reported.

So I feel pretty confident buying my new rMBP even if it has 10.9.0 installed.

To say that an imminent release of Mavricks implies an imminent release of Haswell MBPs is saying that correlation is causation. It's not but... It's a damn good chance :p

Has a OS X - MBP correlation even been formed yet?

I think a stronger correlation is that of "if one product is released today, another is likely to be released too". Obviously there are negative examples to this, like the recent iMac announcement.

Edit: adding to this, there should also be a correlation of " quarterly earnings announcement and release following tuesday"

So if they decided to eliminate the original MBP, that would mean all macbook pros would then have at least retina screens, even at the base price?

I think I'm no more qualified than you to answer that...

We'll have to see internal cost data to get the answer to that... And also understand the strategy of the product heads in the MBP dev team.

Hey guys,

I have been reading this thread since the 250th page. I am planning to switch to :apple: from my 3 years old samsung laptop. There is almost nothing that can compete with the design of rMBPs except for the new Late 2013 DELL XPS 15. I am going to buy a new laptop in the beginning of January(my friend is coming home from the states then). I will mainly use it for movies, school stuff, WEB, rarely Photoshop, AFTER EFFECTS and Maya 3d like a few times a week. I don't mind either OS. I like them both(Windows and :apple: )

1. Sofia, Bulgaria
2. 3050$ for the base model (15"; retina; 8GB; 256SSD)
4869$ for the maxed out base
3868$ for the high-end base (15' retina; 2.7; 512SSD)
4845$ for the maxed out high-end(15" retina; 2.8; 756SSD)
3. About a week later

1BGN = 0.69USD
This is like hell of a lot money for a laptop in Bulgaria.
Now somebody try to beat that. :D

Well depending on where you are in Scarborough, the one that just popped up in Markham might not be so far. The Eatons one is also just a subway ride away :D

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Markham one. I guess Rob Ford finally got his wish to come true "They want subways, subways, subways."- Rob Ford :D. Why do we have to have the mayor that faced allegations of smoking crack. Even Wolf Blitzer reported it in the Situation Room:rolleyes:.

That would be too good to be true...
Although: If you upgrade a cMBP to meet the specs of a basic retina, you already get the same price-ballpark.
You just trade in the optical drive and the upgradability for a retina display.
So it already is kind of true.

Given all the talk about MBPr release vs Mavericks release.... It is my understanding that Apple has a policy; "You should not attempt to install or reinstall a version of Mac OS X earlier than what came with your computer". Is that statement still valid? Here is an old statement.

Could this come into play in determining what version of OSX the Haswell MBPr will come with? For example, not wanting to support 10.8.x drivers for Iris Pro 5200, TB2, etc...

Not sure what you mean. What does the "downgrade" policy have to do with what OS Apple puts on the machine, when it will only be "upgraded"?

Very important detail for corporate use. A new OS usually takes 3-6 month to be released for use in a large corporation. That actutally would speak for releasing the new MBP with 10.8.5 otherwise the new machine could not be used on a corporate network.

Can we petition to have this thread remain after the rMBPs come out? It's my favourite thread on the forum. We can rename it. Any ideas for the names?

It should turn into the "Waiting for Broadwell MBP" thread. I really hope it doesn't turn into the "Problems with your Haswell MBP" thread.

Stopped by the Apple store yesterday and compared the 13" MBA with the current 13" rMBP because I've been waffling on which I really want. Most of the time, the MBA will fit meet needs but I know from time to time I'll want the extra HP of the MBP.

The retina screen is pretty awesome and I like being able to switch resolutions based on my needs for screen real-estate but I really like the lightness of the MBA.

My assessment is that I'm going to wait for the Haswell rMBP. The 13" MBP isn't all that much heavier than the MBA and the retina screen is worth it. Waiting for Haswell for nothing more than the (hopefully) extended battery life.

Yeah I really need a laptop and I'm sick of waiting, I'll wait until end of october, if we haven't heard anything, I'll buy the current rMPB base 15".

Anyone else?

I did the exact same thing as you. Then I actually bought a 13" air. To test, returned in 2 weeks later. But I absolutely loved the air! Loved it. Would recommend to all my friends. But I will be getting the 13rMBP for the retina display

Am I the only one that expects a redesign with this next release?

I know the retina chassis is on its 1st gen.
As were the iPhone in 2008 and the iPad in 2011. They were both redesigned after one year.
Granted these were new products.

At some point the whole "with retina" designation will disappear when discussing the MBP of the not so distant future.

There is a sweet spot in between the MBA and rMBP begging for my money.

Is the next MBP not worthy?

Maybe the question is will Apple milk the "with retina" using this current design again or will they innovate their asses off, again?

I'm feeling pretty good about the latter, and seeing the future Apple delivers. Perhaps is all hinges on IGZO and it will happen next year...

Will be exciting to see and I'm buying one this month either way.

I hope there's some sort of redesign...mostly different color aluminum shells. The current design isn't really bad. If it isn't broke, don't fix it.
