Epiphany!!!

1) Apple released the first rMBP (15") a couple weeks before ML was released, but it was announced at the same event. Now, Mavericks has a GM seeded to devs. already as of yesterday or two days ago so that could mean one of two things:
a. Apple will ship the new rMBPs on Oct. 15 ('available today') at their event WITH 10.9 preinstalled.
b. OR if they want to wait another week or two for 10.9, then the rMBPs will ship without Mavericks ('available today') at the event date and get a free upgrade when 10.9 comes out.
c. Apple could release the new rMBPs silently on Tuesday (the 8th) = least likely .
If the Haswell rMPB is about to be released, it likely will have 10.8 installed, as there's not enough time to load the new GM 10.9, package, ship and distribute the new machines in time to accompany a near-time release. In other words, if we are to see them in the next week or so, it will have to be be with a free, later 10.9 update.

The only way I see 10.9 coming installed is if the release is announced 10/22, with availability sometime thereafter -- even with Apple's remarkable logistics system it will take some time to provide the supply chain with OE 10.9 machines.

Can't they be loading them up with 10.9 now. With an Oct 15 release

Well, I was talking about Americans in general. I couldn't figure out a better nickname for you. What should I call you then?

Well, bigtime Lakers fan, bigtime Dodgers fan, bigtime Rolling Stones fan. Take you're pick. I've seen the Stones live 57 times, so you can call me The Midnight Rambler

Mon dieu! Almost $6,000 USD? I live in Chicago, IL, but I'm originally from Nigeria and have family in South Africa, UK, and Italy. It's always cheapest to purchase from the US and send it to them - either when someone comes to visit or if I send it air freight from Chicago.

yep, cheapest way to buy apple pcs is to fly to the US and buy there, you are going to spend with the flight, but at least you are not wasting that money on the tax for the government but for your enjoyment

specially since the you cant order from any authorised seller in the US that ships internationally, since they arent allowed to ship oversees apple merchandise.

but if I could do that, its going to be

{[price of the product + freight ] * (60% import tax)} * 18% tax

so [(2800 + 100) * 60%] * 18% = 5.475

so not much cheaper and still one enjoyable trip less

oh you know the stupid thing? if I went and bought there, I wouldnt pay a single shred of tax, no import tax nor the sales tax in america since I would deduct that in the airport

I don't agree. The release of Mavericks is obviously right around the corner; with it having gone GM, Apple won't just sit on it. But there's no evidence that the supply problems that kept a new MBP out of our hands in June don't still remain.

The MBA and iMac are still fresh, the iPhone 5s and 5c are brand-new, Mavericks is soon, the Mac Pro will happen before year-end, and there will probably be new iPads soon as well. Apple has a lot to focus on - and if they play all of their cards right now then there's going to be a drought for another few seasons.

I still predict February for the new MacBooks Pro.

Well, I guess anything is possible, but I really doubt Apple will just release Mavericks without some hardware to show it off. It's time, really, for the cMBP especially. It's the flagship computer for Apple, and it already hasn't seen a specs update for over a year. June was out of the question because the Iris Pro was not available yet; Apple most likely had enough to do with the iPhone release in September and decided to wait till Mavericks. I really think there'll be a refresh this month.

Ok, so most blogs now are boldly posting and betting on October 15th.

They don't have anything to lose if they're wrong. Not saying it's not the 15th, but I think it's an echo chamber.

I think there would be multiple people on here willing to buy you a rMBP if you were right. It's obviously going to be released with Mavericks this month.

Keep in mind when apple releases a beta/gm to developers, that copy is one that was probably worked on months ago. They probably signed of on the GM a couple weeks ago before releasing it. They are well working on the next update by now.

There is definitely time to load all the MBP's.

They did it in 10 days with iPhone 5S+5C.

IOS 7 GM: September 10
5S/5C release: September 20

And I guess they produce more of these. So it should be possible to ship rMBP's with Mavericks.

I guess they have compiled the GM a week or two before it's released, meaning that if they release the rMBP's on October 15, they'd have 1 month to put Mavericks on :)

Waiting for Haswell MBP Mega Thread

I was waiting for Brazil to chime in. That's ****** outrageous. Mr MM, I didn't know you were from the beautiful country of Brazil, but it surely wouldn't cost you $3,000 to hop on a plane and come visit me in Los Angeles and buy your computer here. And to top it off you can have your MBP over the weekend instead of waiting months

I am Brazilian and I am also watching this topic forward posts of 6000, I believe for those who live in Brazil is a good option that can get in Paraguay for half the price in Brazil. I live 90 miles from Paraguay and today 15 rMBP i7 2.7 16GB 512SSD is U.S. $ 2,755.

I travel a lot for work and do 'mileage runs' to pick up frequent flyer miles at a cheap rate. Ex: fly to Japan for 3 days for $700 USD and earn 90,000 miles. Might seem crazy, but that's enough for a business class international ticket valued at over $8,000.

In your case, if the cost of the macbook in the US is almost the cost of buying local, take a getaway trip. :) Would be a fun story on Monday morning.

Edit: Updated as of Page 408

What would be really interesting would be to do an adjustment to purchasing power parity. I would if I had the time and the brains:p Here's an interesting link on purchasing power parity with a few indexes showing how pricing vary around the world, and these figures take into account the difference in income vs cost of goods in said country, or the "law of one price" - if that works... (Guessing it's often quite wrong.. but it's interesting reading!). In my case, for Norway, by the big Mac index Norwegian goods should cost up to ~80% more than in the states. But if the law of one price holds true and I've understood it all correctly then the difference in avg salaries should balance that out.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purchasing_power_parity#OECD_comparative_price_levels

We should check avg. national salary (after taxes) vs. rMBP cost. ;) Ivrather not do this for Poland... (don't feel like crying right now) ;)

So maybe Apple should open an Apple Store at the New York Airport...
