Well, this doesn't sound good if you (like me) think that Mavericks and the new MBP's will be announced/released concurrently
Even with 10.9 this close, I'm still of the mind that the new rMBP will be released with 10.8, followed in a couple weeks with a free upgrade to 10.9.

It will be easy enough to show off a new rMBP with 10.9 GM loaded at an event to be able to present/take credit for the Mavericks-driven improvements in battery, performance, etc., with a closing line of "you can have 10.9 in X weeks."

seems that apple will put Q4 reports on 28-29 OCT so based on that and on history of the company they will have an event on 22 Oct and not on 15th..

Yeah, I could get by using Windows too. And I'd save a grand. But I would be giving up so much. There goes all my OS X-exclusive applications, not to mention my productivity going right out the window. Windows is an OS I absolutely hate using.

I don't get why people are trying to tell people to go Windows on here. People obviously go with Macs for a reason.

Exactly, if someone has waited for the Haswell rmbp since WWDC (like many people here have), they obviously have set their mind on using OSX and buying the new Haswell Retina MacBook Pro.

Out of curiosity though I wonder how many of these new owners will be using Windows on their rMBPs in some form or another.

Hey people today we won't see any invite for the Apple October event. I'm pretty sure. The announcement of the event setted for the end of October where Apple puts the Q4 reports is a clear signal that the event will be held the 22th. Sometimes Apple news comes out in alternative ways... you have just to capture the signals...

I don't mind waiting until the 22nd whilst checking compulsively MR and the Haswell thread - as long as we don't have to read this Dell vs. rMBP non-sense. I understand we can find something to talk about in a laptop that ships with a processor we're expecting to see in the future iteration of the MBP but the constant 'if I don't see it by 10/15, I'll buy a Dell because it gives me more for my money' is seriously bogus. Go buy your Dell, none of us here will miss you. :D

I'm currently using a Dell, it's been solid as a rock, and if I didn't want to buy a Mac of some variety, I would buy another. I'm just waiting to see what these MBPs are before making up my mind whether which Mac is best for me.

I'm a heavy Excel user, so will probably use Windows on my new machine. Need to have a play with Numbers and/or Office for Mac first, to see if they can meet my requirements.

But what about when you said this. . . .

no question about...Tue 15 October is the date

and this. . .

there will be an update on 15 October

Me 15" MBP base model or the dGPU model

and this . . .

It will be at apple event Tue 15 October...if not sooner like iMACs

or this. . .

15 October is for sure ...

or this . . .

15 October wait for it...like last year ocotber . . .

and especially this . . .

i am sure 100% about the event on 15, but for you i must go with the "if" because otherwise i got people on my head

...

You're already in this deep, why give up the faith now?

Alternatively, you could just add the words "probably" and "possibly" to your English vocabulary.

Because he has no clue like the rest of us.

Why 2 ipads? I'm also considering an ipad to replace my 16GB ipad 2. I hope they come out with a 256GB capacity.

My ipad was a gift and was purchased in South Africa. I've had it for almost 2 years now and never purchased a plan - although it has that capability - as I only use wi-fi.

I have to decide whether to purchase the new wi-fi only ipad rather than limit myself. Since I've not used it in 2 years, might as well stick to the wi-fi only and save the money for other accessories.

<upd>
I guess asking the question was enough to answer the question: purchase wi-fi model and if I need a monthly contract, use the other one.

Getting them for my relatives... I'm sticking to my old ipad 2, which has satisfactory performance. I live in a city and figure that wifi only ipad is good enough... hardly use cellular.

Why are you getting them for free? It someone else buying them for you? Or are you planning to get the devices through some more murky, sordid ways?:D

Still what, 4 hours and 36 Minutes left before it's 9AM in Cupertino. I'm hopeful for invitations being given to Press today. But that's all, hope. I just want my computer now this waiting is frustrating.

Yes, but a true Retina display with 1680x1050 (=3360x2100) looks better than a Retina display with 1440x900 (=2880x1800) interpolated to view 1680x1050.

ˆThis.

I disagree. The working area is too small. It needs to have an effective working area of at-least 1680x1050 minimum and I'd prefer 1920x1200. Other manufacturers have been shipping 1080p panels in their 15" notebooks for literally 4-5 years. Apple whilst shipping a 2880x1800 panel is only giving us an effective working area of 1440x900 which is the correct resolution for a 13" notebook in my opinion.

To say the current setup is perfect is plainly ridiculous, it can always be improved I'd say the current setup is good not perfect and if it was 4K then it'd be great but still not perfection, there is always more ways to improve the notebook and perfect would convey it's already topped out.

I agree. The ultra sharp resolution makes it idea to have slightly smaller text and other elements. Far out, I can see a lot of detail on the tiny iPhone 5 screen, just because the images/text are just so flawless.

You know I am actually hoping for a slight redesign. Even if they just fix the glued in battery.

And it isn't unprecedented for them to alter a design this soon after its introduction. I've mentioned this many many pages ago but I'll reiterate.

When the first MacBook Pro's came out they used the original PowerBook G4 design with a few updates such as the iSight camera built in and dual latches on the 15" notebook. Previously only the 17" PowerBook G4 had dual latches.

Then a few months later that same year (2006) they adjusted the MacBook Pro design slightly, making the iSight indicator light hidden behind a very thin piece of aluminium so it only appeared when the camera was activated. In the first versions there was a hole instead.

Then they did a similar change after they introduced the Unibody MacBook Pro's in 2008. The first 13" and 15" models had removable batteries with a door and a latch. The following year the designs were updated removing the latch and removable battery mechanisms entirely. That was only about 8 or 9 months after the original Unibody introduction.

Finally in late 2010 they changed the battery design on the Unibody 17" notebooks. The battery connector was changed and the battery screw mounts and other things. Externally it remained the same, the display port connector became a dual-use Thunderbolt/Display Port connector but that's about it.

So with these mild changes between revisions I think it is not completely out of the question that we will see changes to the Retina models, especially considering the amount of time that has passed since their introduction. There has been enough time since their debut for Apple to learn what works and what hasn't and honestly the only thing I want them to change is their decision to glue the battery in but any other changes that benefit the product are welcomed.

Yup.

The past 5-6 invitations has been sent out at 9am PDT (just looked up the MacRumors articles on those, and they're all written around 9:02-9:10am), so still 3-4 hours to go!

I really hope they're doing it on October 15. But last year, it was on October 23, so I could think they are doing it the 22th. Last year, the September event was on Sep 12, and this year Sep 10. So if they follow the same dates as last year, it'll be October 22.

so much for..

a) silent update (already passed the time)

b ) invites for event (not happening today based on previous years, october 16th it is)

october 22nd it is then for macbook pros.

you troll who bought the current rMBP and dont want a new update because your actual rMBP would be outdated....

we saw you from a mile away

you must be joking, dont you? because i cant get the link between half life 3 and haswell rMBP

you'all man are becoming crazy, i think...

Troll??? I've been on this site since Feb waiting for a Haswell and witnessed even the most nonsensical imagination turned into confirmed rumor by Kuo who has been known to be very reliable.

I don't know the we you're talking about, but I can assure you that your group of we have no clue.

I think I will change totally my mind and I will go for MBA, i7/8gb/128gb...

I will decide between today and tomorrow I guess

In that way if I will like the upgrade I will be able to change my mind (let say I order on Thursday, then I have time to return the MBA if I really like the rMBP upgrade).

Mmh I'm very tempted...
