I'm waiting since the first rMBP came out back in summer '12. First of all, back then 15" wasn't an option for me, so I waited for the 13" version, but when it came out I decided to wait for the 2nd generation retina since I didn't want to be an early adopter. My patience has been tortured like no one else

Exact same case for me. I started a new job on 1/6 2012 and was totally focused on getting my first mac ever. But I love the 13 inch format so we bought a temp computer (Asus) since I thought that the 13 inch would arrive only a couple of weeks after WWDC and the presentation of 15 rmbp. So I waited (and started to follow the threads in this forum) and it turned out that I had to wait until oct/nov for the 13 inch. Sadly the reviews weren't that good for it and I decided to wait another half year to the next WWDC in which it for sure would be an upgrade to haswell. And we all know how that went.

So since then it has been August for sure, September (another event without macs) and now we just got this info about an oct event focused on ipads. And then we have this talk about silent refresh that never happens. It's almost like that waiting for this computer has become a lifestyle so it actually will feel pretty strange if/when I do buy it.

The silly thing about it is that I've been a PC/Windows person for all my life and when I finally now took the decision of trying mac then I end up in this 1-2 year waiting game and continuing running PC/Windows on a Asus laptop.

But.... In the absence of any actual news this will-they-won't-they / maybe next Tuesday or at 2am Cupertino time / next full moon for sure malarky will carry on ad infinitum.

I think you are wrong. This was true until last monday. Now we have a sticky date: either the 22th either see you next year.
Big difference. Waiting until who knows when is one thing, having a red-circled date in the calendar is very different.

I have seen all Apple keynotes but I do not time them. Thats was just my thought!

I think it is not to nice to call others for newbies like you do - I hade a Mac before you (and still keep it in my little museum:) so stop that B*********.

I was not calling others a newbie... Just you.

Not meant in a bad way. It was just a nickname / jk. No need to get your panties all twisted.

If you look under your name its currently your title.

"macrumors newbie"

We had a red circled date in September.

If not 22nd the speculation will re-adjust to November. Personally hoping not to be able to prove that to you ;)

I'm waiting for my special invitation.

This is how sad this is...back in Feb, I had planned on replacing my dell laptop and thought dell or mac and decided on mac. I got initial sticker shock because the model I wanted was over $3K with applecare. Then I thought, since I have to wait a few weeks(old rumor), I'll put the money aside and I'm good. I prefer to do this because it was a sudden purchase decision - don't like seeing my account drop a few thousand on a whim.

As I've waited, I've topped off the account to allow for top of the line rMBP, ipad 5 and even enough left over for another rMBP - but that will be dumb. And here I am... still waiting and trying to explain to my co-workers that the butterfly clips attached to the base of my laptop is actually there for a function.

I just had to take a pic to give you guys a visual. I took the clip of for a second to show it on the good day. If the clip is off any longer, the rubber cement used to hold it down would be overpowered by the metal frame and that would be about 6 inches higher. LOL. I deserve a new laptop, damnit!

Holy smoke, that look like a thing from an old Mad Max movie. I hope you will have a rMBP in your hands soon. I am sitting with my rMBP 15 - 16 GB/512GB and waiting for a newer rMBP with longer battery life (do not want to switch to a MBA for that) - so I guess I have a luxury problem compared to you.

Can I just say this one thing?

For months, many of us have been awaiting and speculating the arrival of the new Haswell based rMBP. I wouldn't say we have been let down by Apple; as much as we have been let down by ourselves, by expecting something that we all knew wouldn't arrive till October (myself included).

I've been checking MacRumors every day since the Haswell MacBook Air unveiling and have read nearly every possible post on this thread, hoping for some good news.

I've been hearing things about IGZO, 4k Displays, 1 TB SSD, and a complete new redesign, but have since come to the conclusion that no matter what spec, processor, screen type, screen resolution, SSD size or whatever is featured in the new line of rMBP, a good 90% of us on here, will be buying it regardless, just because it is the most recent update to the hardware.

Every one is entitled to their opinions and such, so I thought that I would share mine as insignificant as it is. I'm awaiting the new rMBP eagerly as much as the next person, wether it comes or not on the 22nd, the ball is in Apple's court. If they deliver, great! If not, they lose customers and they lose shareholders who believe in the Mac. It really does feel like Apple don't care anymore about the product that started them off in 1984. Its now all about the iPad or the iPhone and it is a shame really.

Heres to hoping for a Haswel update on the rMBP! :)

That's the same as me except my wait started a year after yours. I feel that when it arrives, I may just say blah. Or, buy it and it ends up being a letdown.

“The Mac line has not been forgotten, as the late-2013 editions of the Macbook Pro and Mac Mini will be announced during the event, according to our sources. Both computers will receive Intel’s Haswell processors as part of their update.”

That's not even news - just a rehash of unfounded suppositions. Sorry :(

Well done and well said.

It is not a title I have picked.
Well now you know I don't like when you call me newbie.

I also do not like when you write "No need to get your panties all twisted. "
So please also stop with that B*******!

Why do you think it has a better chance of being silently released than at the event?

None of the changes we're expecting (Haswell processor, PCIe SSD, 1TB SSD option, 802.11ac, 1080p FaceTime camera) are significant enough to mention at an event. Doing so would distract from the things that Apple want to focus attention upon.

Actually there is someone like you. ME. I was working on a film in Bulgaria in June 2012. I rode into work in the van with the editors. All we talked about everyday was the new retina. I said then "I HAVE to have it, but I refuse to buy first generation" I've been waiting ever since and my 2009 15" MBP is killing me. Getting worse by the day. Oh, and the 13" is not an option. Been using the 15" for way too long

I agree with you, it is sad that apple mainly focus on iPhones and iPads.
Just for that I gave away my iPhone 5 and wanted to punish Apple and bought an Samsung S4. But even if i prefer Samsung hardware I will buy the iPhone 5s with the small screen and lack of possibility to insert MicroSD card, replacing battery etc. Miss the Apple boring, but functional, experience.

As I however have and 15 inch rMBP I will not buy a new rMBP if it isn't something really extra. I will then likely buy a MBA for battery life to have on the road even if the screen sucks.

Apple is playing a dangerous game if they dump us loyal Mac people. It is not only the hardware. Look at the lack of updating iWork (expect for minor updates - such as removing my beloved "Save as" command).

So... I've read maybe 30 pages of this and my eyes hurt. Two questions:

1) A lot of speculation has been on whether or not the refresh will have a dGPU option. Are you guys mainly speaking towards the 15"? (cuz I would love to see the 13" with dedicated graphics, although unlikely)

2) What are the chances of the refreshed 13" getting more than 8GB of RAM? I know 8GB will get you through most anything, but 2 years from now it won't. I need an ultraportable workstation, and the 15" isn't really an option for me.

(it's between this and the Lenovo T440s)

I totally agree with you there too! iWork SEVERELY needs updating! I own a 2010 MBP and 2012 Mac Mini, both systems running Moutain Lion and an authentic download of iWork from the Mac App Store. However, being a uni student, I can't even type a simple sentence down without both systems crashing and unexpectedly quitting on me. Don't know if there are any other stories of a similar nature on this thread? Would be interested to know.

1) I think they are, then again...
2) No one knows. Although 2 years from now, 8GB will stills serve you well. I'm using a Dell laptop I received in 2010 with 8GB ram and it's fine except for the occasional Youtube memory suckage. 8GB will still be fine in 2 years.

We had a red circled date in September.

If not 22nd the speculation will re-adjust to November. Personally hoping not to be able to prove that to you ;)

When was there ever a September date as solid as Oct. 22 is right now?

1) We were talking about the 15". The 13" rMBP doesn't have / never had a dGPU so it's out of the question it'll have one now. Apple won't offer up battery for a dGPU (crazy idea anyway), no they would do the opposite if possible since the current Intel IGP's are at it's most powerfull. That defines the current discussion about dropping the dGPU in the 15".

2) 50/50.. who can say? I don't think anyone here has actual info about Apple's work behind the curtains. Personally, I think the 13" will get 16GB. It's 2013/2014 and the rMBP is expensive enough. Apple is known to push the boundaries so why ignore the 13" rMBP? Give the people more reasons than only the Retina Display to buy a 13" rMBP rather than a 13" Air. Ofcourse, it's not because it's a "wise" or "probable" choice for Apple that means Apple will actually do it. It's like the iPad Mini with Retina Display, people were sooo convinced it would get the retina display last refresh and than Apple said 'No' for the second time. Just wait and see, it's not like you really need to know the answer now to make a difference (unless you absolutely need 16GB on a 13" device and are willing to buy a Windows laptop if Apple's won't offer it).

If you take a step back and analyze, this thread is so horribly depressing. I feel really bad for the people that have been waiting since WWDC for a Haswell rMBP. That must feel like eternity. I've only been waiting since OCT. 1st and that's been hellish even with my Early 2013 rMBP just watching this unfold is chaotic.

Now MacMall has reservations for the Mac Pro??? Can we get a reservation for the rMBP-Haswell.......I know, I know, the rMBP is going to be minimal in the update arena, but still.....

I will say running Mavericks GM on my 2012 rMBP, battery life is better than it was on Mountain Lion. That being said I really think Apple can hit the 12+ hour battery mark with the new model.

Out of curiosity, what's your reason for upgrading if you have the Early 2013 model?
