You're lucky. I'm an IT consultant and travel every week. I need my laptop for work. At home, I have a fairly new desktop I don't even use, but if I did not have to travel, maybe I could get by without one.

The worst part is I like to do workout DVDs in my hotel room. I can fully charge my laptop before I leave the office, shut it down completely and head back to the hotel. Change into my workout gear(mind you, the max time is 2hrs, but 1 hr is more realistic), get the tv all ready to go and the minute I hit power on the laptop, it says the battery is dead. Then I curse the heavens for not having my charger in my bag while I head down to the hotel gym.

It will be so nice to have a laptop that lasts more than 2 hours on a charge and not sometimes sound like a plane is about to take off.

Yeah, if I didn't have someone willing to let me use their computer the past few months, I would have had no choice but to buy.

I will be doing extreme amounts of travelling soon. And I have stuff to get done, so I am so ready for the Haswell rMBP.

So, if I'm correct, there is a possibility that we won't see a new rMBP this year?

Damn I've been waiting for such a long time, my school has already started for 1 and half month, can't wait much longer anymore. My 13" 2010 mbp is really killing me at the moment.

Not really. Don't believe the naysayers. Wait for the 22nd.

It is very likely that the Haswell MBPs will be silently released on a Tuesday either this month or in November. There is a small chance that the release might be announced next year or during the October 22 event. Same for the Haswell Mac mini.

Why do you think it has a better chance of being silently released than at the event? That doesn't make any sense to me.

No newbie its not. Apple does not have a hard set "off the stage" time.

Last year the event went 72 mins.

If you would like to, you can go to iTunes and watch all the past events.

I have seen all Apple keynotes but I do not time them. Thats was just my thought!

I think it is not to nice to call others for newbies like you do - I hade a Mac before you (and still keep it in my little museum:) so stop that B*********.

I'm waiting since the first rMBP came out back in summer '12. First of all, back then 15" wasn't an option for me, so I waited for the 13" version, but when it came out I decided to wait for the 2nd generation retina since I didn't want to be an early adopter. My patience has been tortured like no one else

Per the new story on the front page with pics of the new ipad shells..

Apple is expected to unveil both the fifth-generation iPad and the second-generation iPad mini during an October 22 event that will also showcase other Apple products such as Mavericks and the Mac Pro.

No mention of the MBP :(

I was in a similar situation with my laptop. Back in June, it completely broke. I have not had my own computer since then. But my desire for the Haswell rMBP is so strong that I have waited.

Count me in! My mid-2009 has been temperamental for two years, and it finally decided that it will refuse to boot unless I take it to the Apple Store. Two weeks ago I went in and it gave the Genius the runaround while he was trying to wipe the HDD and reinstall OS X. Got everything restored when I got home that night and then the very next day it wouldn't boot again.

So since then I've been borrowing my boyfriend's Lenovo for school, but I really need a new laptop before the end of the semester. This week with midterms has been hard enough. And it seems pointless to go back to Windows and have to buy all new software in my senior year. I could buy the current rMBP, but with my luck I would get the IR and other issues, and the battery life improvements seem worth my while.

Oh boy. You just opened the door for a bunch of people to again go on and on about how the rMBP isn't mentioned in most of the reports/articles, and therefore won't come at the event.

It's getting really ridiculous.

You win! :D

Im starting to think that we wouldnt see any rMBP this year... and that really %$%&"!$ me off!!

First world problems. *checks location*. :p

Just sit and be patient. Why are you worried, need the system for work?

I need it to LIVE! to breathe!! :p hahaha im an Appleholic and this timeframe (since March) has been the most stressful, exhausting and demanding waiting than any other Apple product i had bought. :p :p

Seriously, if Apple wouldnt release the new rMBP this next Oct 22nd, i´ll become a Windowsholic!

And that's it!

It's pertinent...the only thing I saw that mentioned them was the prediction made back on 9/11/13. All subsequent "substantiated" rumors make no mention of the MBP. I still firmly believe the that new MBP will release with Mavericks, whenever that may be.

EDIT** Maybe some peeps need this app :D http://www.cultofmac.com/248995/what-me-worry-track-your-anxiety-with-ios-app-worry-watch/

Could've guessed that I'm not the only one sitting here on the brink of functioning notebooks. Got my late 2008 MBP seeing it's last moments thanks to the flawed "hinge" problem ..my screen is literally not glued together so it keeps glitching with pixels from time to time. A retina upgrade is gonna be huge :D

.... and i base this on absolutely nothing."

There really is no logic of saying that just because allthingsD dident say anything about a rMBP release on the 22nd, it will not come that day.

I really dont think we should take what AllThingsD said as a sertain.
Cos what they are saying is:
"The focal point of the gathering will be the latest updates to the company’s iPad line, but the new Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks will likely get some stage time as well, "

So in other words they dont know at all.
They know that it will be a iPad focused event, but they also know that wont be all they talk about. So they say the 2 most likely candidates for mentioning on the event, which is the Mac Pro and Mavericks.

And the reason for that is cos they are the only 2 confirmed releases for this fall.

Do you get my logic here?

I really feel this is how it is, and im really not saying that just because im waiting for the rMBP. It just makes the most sense if you read between the lines and dont take every word as the law.

Wow, we're moving at a pretty fast pace here. I just got back from school, and there are 8 new pages. I guess I'll have to read them all and selectively object to other people's thought and opinions, as usual.

Yeah I have gotten into the habit of checking this thread after work, or after I wake up from sleeping after work. Sometimes it grows 3-4 pages!

It's just a maintenance, when was the last time Apple released a product on a wednesday morning?

They are preparing it to support the 4k IGZO dislays they will out into our new MBPrs when they silently upgrade them next tuesday.:D:D:D

----------

store in Germany is up and showing those well known old MBPs available in 24 hours...:(

Why ridiculous? You seem certain they will come - I hope you're not wrong.

But.... In the absence of any actual news this will-they-won't-they / maybe next Tuesday or at 2am Cupertino time / next full moon for sure malarky will carry on ad infinitum.
