I'm starting to get worried :(

Now we know the next keynote will take place on Sept. 22, and ALL i hear is rumors about iPad5, Mavericks, ipad mini, Mac Pro.... but NOT A SINGLE one about the Haswell rMBP :(

Im starting to think that we wouldnt see any rMBP this year... and that really %$%&"!$ me off!!

First world problems. *checks location*. :p

Just sit and be patient. Why are you worried, need the system for work?

We've seen tons of leaks and news about the rMBP. It just hasn't come recently. Besides, what leaks are you looking for?

There has been as many leaks for the iPad as there has been for the rMBP. It's not crazy at all. The rMBP has nothing more to show leaks-wise.

Can you tell me what leaks you saw for the rMBP? All I relied on was 'reliable' news from Kuo. I don't recall seeing any physical evidence at all.

Does anyone believe Apple is that good at keeping secrets that rMBP is the only one without reliable leaks?

iPad 5 - we've seen leaks and pictures
Mac Pro - THEY told us it was coming
iPhone - we had reliable news
OSX Mav - THEY told us about it

rMBP - nothing. No reliable news, non-stop BS since February and bogus predictions made for WWDC, August, September

Not sure about leaks for iMac, but why are we still believing rMBP?

What's the reasoning besides it only makes sense? That's the line we heard several times this year.

How many people did a countdown on October 1 and then the 8th for imaginary announcements. After the letdown, some said Oct 15th before Apple had mercy on poor souls to announce their event that DOES NOT include the equipment everyone here is expecting?

This is like imagining you'll get a BMW from Santa every year and end up disappointed because you're still taking the bus.

Now you are very pessimistic!

The optimist - Yes it can!"

New Thunderbolt Display

Anyone else hoping they refresh the Thunderbolt display? I would love to see a slimmer design like the iMac and pair it with my rMBP :D

We don't need physical evidence. What are they supposed to show? It's going to be the same chasis. But we pretty much know everything that will be included in the Haswell rMBP.

I actually did semi-intense editing on Final Cut Pro on my rMBP last night and it went from 14GBs of ram free to 163mbs. That is very alarming. It was a 2 minute video with minimal editing. Everything ran smooth rendering was quick but WTF. How is it conceivably possible to only work with 8GBs of RAM. I would die.

Dude - do you know how OS X handles memory? And if you're using FCP X, do you have any idea of how that application specifically uses memory?

You should probably read a little about OSX's RAM management. You'll find that this is not alarming at all.

+1 gazillion.

I had 24gigs in my iMac and would always push it to 22-23. So I guess I don't know why I am so alarmed. Actually out of the 15.8 that was being used my activity monitor showed that 6.81 was inactive. I still haven't figured out how to purge the inactive files to redistribute memory back to programs in need. I hate when that happens. So essentially I lost a significant amount of processing power. I wonder if this is just the norm when working with NLE's or maybe FCP in general.

"24gigs.. pushed to 22-23..."
"6.8gb of memory inactive, can't figure out how to purge the inactive files..."
"lost a significant amount of processing power..."

In regards to memory, the rMBP is supposed to use lots more RAM right? I thought I recalled seeing that people were using 5-6 GBs out of just basic usage. Perhaps this will be changed in Mavericks?

I doubt I would buy one, but I would love to see a new one out. Perhaps a 4K Thunderbolt display. But it definitely needs to be slimmer and updated for Thunderbolt 2.

Of course all of us is hoping for that, a 4K Thunderbolt 2 display with the possibility to drop in a dGPU and other goodies!

I am... it's my mind's way of protecting me from disappointment. :D

Why do I spend most of my working hours on this site even now that I know nothing will happen for at least 2 weeks!

I recall having only about 6GBs of RAM on my 2009 model and it did just fine using the same program/plug-ins. I now have about 10gbs more and it consumed them like nothing. A 4k display is much needed and honestly the only reason a TB 2 display should be released. I wouldn't want a sub-par 3K display. 4k is the future. 2 years from now it will probably be the new standard in HD.

Go there and confess and then come back to this forum and tell all of us that we need to go there :)

ps. I think they have a OS X 10.12 step program

"Inactive" RAM is essentially free RAM -- you need do nothing to make it available to other programs.

When you quit a program, OSX keeps its files in the RAM, so that if you restart the program the restart is quicker. However, if you need that inactive RAM for some other program, it is instantly over-written -- so "inactive" RAM is really "free" RAM, just waiting to be used.

Is it not 60 minutes?

Please let me decide!

No newbie its not. Apple does not have a hard set "off the stage" time.

Last year the event went 72 mins.

If you would like to, you can go to iTunes and watch all the past events.

My issue was at a certain point in post production, I started seeing bottlenecking and when I went to view the activity monitor the inactive ram was not allocating fast enough to meet the demands of FCP. I went and downloaded this app called, "Memory Freer" from the APP Store that had stellar ratings for only $.99 I'll see if force purging this ram helps the redistribution process and FCP's reclamation/usage of RAM.

I'm learning more and more about OS X every day I'm on my 3rd year of using it and have much to discover about efficiency and optimal settings.

I'm waiting for my special invitation.

This is how sad this is...back in Feb, I had planned on replacing my dell laptop and thought dell or mac and decided on mac. I got initial sticker shock because the model I wanted was over $3K with applecare. Then I thought, since I have to wait a few weeks(old rumor), I'll put the money aside and I'm good. I prefer to do this because it was a sudden purchase decision - don't like seeing my account drop a few thousand on a whim.

As I've waited, I've topped off the account to allow for top of the line rMBP, ipad 5 and even enough left over for another rMBP - but that will be dumb. And here I am... still waiting and trying to explain to my co-workers that the butterfly clips attached to the base of my laptop is actually there for a function.

I just had to take a pic to give you guys a visual. I took the clip of for a second to show it on the good day. If the clip is off any longer, the rubber cement used to hold it down would be overpowered by the metal frame and that would be about 6 inches higher. LOL. I deserve a new laptop, damnit!

There have been days when I've barely avoided blindness as the paperclip flies towards my face when I take it out of the bag too quickly. :D

1) Why spend $.99 on an app? The app is simply invoking the "purge" command (+ having a "pretty" interface). You could just go to the Terminal and write "purge".

2) Inactive (App Memory in Mavericks) is FREE RAM. It is available for other apps to use. HOWEVER, if you are a frequent user of a specific app, you'll benefit from the inactive memory. For example, first time you open Photoshop, it'll take about 10 seconds. If you then quit Photoshop, the RAM allocated is now made inactive. If you at a later time will re-launch Photoshop, it'll happen almost instantly, as it can quickly re-activate the inactive RAM, instead of allocating 1GB from scratch.

This is why using the purge command will eventually make your system slower, as key services you might be using often will not be "cached" in the memory, having to allocate them every time the service/app starts, instead of quickly re-activating it.

People has to stop looking at their RAM usage (unless they have huge page-outs). OSX's RAM management is really great, and you don't have to think about it.

I think you need this rMBP more than any of us! :D

I'm a consultant and a couple weeks ago, my client asked if my company provides laptops for us or if we buy our own. I thought that was the Minnesota-nice way of saying "that's the most ghetto laptop I've ever seen!"

I laugh about it to them and my team is hilarious. They know I've been waiting for a mac and I'm not willing to replace the cover on this machine.

Funny thing is I know once I get the mac, I'll buy the replacement cover and keep this as a spare laptop. At the end, it's still a solid dell, just does not look like one.
Except for the battery that likes to commit suicide whenever it feels like it: it can go from fully charged to dead in 1 second.

I was in a similar situation with my laptop. Back in June, it completely broke. I have not had my own computer since then. But my desire for the Haswell rMBP is so strong that I have waited.

You're lucky. I'm an IT consultant and travel every week. I need my laptop for work. At home, I have a fairly new desktop I don't even use, but if I did not have to travel, maybe I could get by without one.

The worst part is I like to do workout DVDs in my hotel room. I can fully charge my laptop before I leave the office, shut it down completely and head back to the hotel. Change into my workout gear(mind you, the max time is 2hrs, but 1 hr is more realistic), get the tv all ready to go and the minute I hit power on the laptop, it says the battery is dead. Then I curse the heavens for not having my charger in my bag while I head down to the hotel gym.

It will be so nice to have a laptop that lasts more than 2 hours on a charge and not sometimes sound like a plane is about to take off.
