If you take a step back and analyze, this thread is so horribly depressing. I feel really bad for the people that have been waiting since WWDC for a Haswell rMBP. That must feel like eternity. I've only been waiting since OCT. 1st and that's been hellish even with my Early 2013 rMBP just watching this unfold is chaotic.

So you have the rMBP already and the wait has been hellish?

Some of us on here have been waiting even before WWDC.

Now MacMall has reservations for the Mac Pro??? Can we get a reservation for the rMBP-Haswell.......I know, I know, the rMBP is going to be minimal in the update arena, but still.....

Is there a good guesstimate on how much the NEW Mac Pro is going to cost?

Since feb :(

You poor soul, hopefully it releases soon.

Out of curiosity, what's your reason for upgrading if you have the Early 2013 model?

Long story short, sold iMac traveling to Hawaii, NYC, and Las Vegas for Vacation/Work/CES 2014

needed a powerful portable machine since I do video editing and im not going to be home often. Friend is quitting Apple, offered that I can use his 25% employee discount before oct 18th. rMBP = $2,276 after tax opposed to $3,100+ Employee discount may not work on new Haswells while he is still employed with Apple +didn't want to leave it to chance.

Bragging rights.
His posts here have really proved this to be true.

lol cute. I am not here to impress anyone. I could care less what anyone thinks about me, I do however, find it entertaining that you seem to think i'm bragging and love confrontation.

I'll be at CES next year as well. I just got a refurb 2012 rMBP for $1800 from the online store so I'm trying to decide if I want to pay $600ish to get the Haswell model instead. More battery life is great, but I always have a charger.

That is exactly why I am still hoping the Haswell releases soon so I will still be in the clear for swapping this one out for it. a 10+ hour battery would be heaven when traveling! Maybe i'll run into you at CES, this will be my first one! :D

Yeah I'm just not sure an extra 3-5 hours without a charge is worth $600 haha. CES is great! This will be my 5th year :D

I'm taking off next year to travel to so many different countries. Definitely want that Haswell for the battery life.

That's why the wait has been hellish because I'm only going to have this chance once, if I don't make the cut i'll have to stick with this laptop (which I am extremely happy with). Hope it releases soon since you've been waiting forever for it.

Wow 5th year! I've been told a lot of horror stories. My girlfriend and I both got permitted to go, heard it was packed and just insanity. I could definitely use some pointers!

Perhaps the one nice thing about the wait is that, at least in my mind, the long wait increases the chances of the 15 inch model coming with a dGPU, or at least a dGPU option. If the new MBPr came out soon after the initial geekbench, the chances would be little to none. But considering how long it has been I'm more hopeful than I previously was that they'll include at least a 750m.

Perhaps I'm overly optimistic, but that's how I look at it. I'll be extremely dissapointed if this isn't the case considering that there are plenty of other options with 750+ with 2GB (and cheaper too). If this one comes with 750m+ with 1GB I'll be happy, with 2GB i'll be even happier. :)

1) A lot of speculation has been on whether or not the refresh will have a dGPU option. Are you guys mainly speaking towards the 15"?

2) What are the chances of the refreshed 13" getting more than 8GB of RAM? I know 8GB will get you through most anything, but 2 years from now it won't.
I believe that even most of the die-hard discrete GPU fans have accepted that the 13" rMBP will continue to rely on integrated graphics. I think the discussion has been about the 15" model and occasionally about a hypothetical 17" rMBP.

When was there ever a September date as solid as Oct. 22 is right now?
With respect to a MBP introduction, every Tuesday in September was at least as solid as October 22. I don't see any reason at all to expect the Haswell MBP to be introduced October 22, though I cannot rule out the possibility.

Is there a good guesstimate on how much the NEW Mac Pro is going to cost?
My guess, good or not, is that the base price for the 13" model is likely to be $1299 or $1399 or $1499. Any other price would surprise me.

I dont even want to imagine how much that thing will cost!!!

So then what are your own expectations for battery life? Personally, I'm going to be happy with 9-10 hours. Because even that is a big jump from 7. But I would love Apple to surprise us like they did with the MBA and give us 11-12 hours. 9-10 is where I would be satisfied, though.

That's long enough to last almost the full duration of a really long flight. I'm not expecting MBA-type battery gains until IGZO next year. But like I said, nobody ever suspected the MBA would be hovering over 12 hours of battery life.

I'm leaving room to be surprised.

I want Apple just to say the rMBPs with HASWELL are available, and give me the details later!! :D;)

I got a great deal on my 2012 model from the refurb store ($1800) so I'm trying to decide if ~$600 more is worth the upgrade or not.

Think of it as paying a 33% premium for an approximate 13% performance gain.

Of course, there are intangibles involved--i.e. fine-tuned 2nd gen internals, new wifi and faster SSD, better battery life (probably)...

But personally, if I already had a retina MBP I'd be waiting for an IGZO display at the very least before being able to justify an upgrade.

I'd be happy with 9-10 hours. That's a huge jump from the 2-3 hours I've been getting for the last few months. I've gotten so used to carrying my MagSafe around that I may pack the new one without thinking even though I won't need it. When my current MBP was new I didn't bother bringing my MagSafe unless I was pulling an all-nighter in the library. It'll be an awkward position. I'm so used to bad battery life that I've barely unplugged the Lenovo I've been borrowing even though it has a 9-cell extended battery.

My expectations are word for word the same as yours. That's reason enough to want it, just the battery especially if its something as simple as doing a return only takes 20 minutes.

I would say stick with the laptop you have now. Wait until 2014 there is a high chance for IGZO + awesome battery life and the 2nd wave of Haswell, maybe even a Broadwell in late 2014! :) just stick it out.

Yeah I'm not sure I would bother updating if I had a 2012 or early-2013. Maybe if I were having issues with the display.

As it stands my MBP is 4 years old and past its time. Others around here have machines that are 3-5+ years old and on their last legs too. This refresh can't come soon enough! I don't even care about specs anymore other than it's a second gen and I can't wait to get away from crappy battery life for a while.

You need to exercise your battery. Every month or so, use it off the charger and let it die -- kill the battery. Otherwise leaving it plugged in 24/7 will actually decrease the battery life over time.

I'm killing a kitten everyday after the 22nd if a new MBP isn't released.

Even though I bought my Ivy Bridge rMBP a week ago, I had been hoping the Haswell MBPs would be released soon. Now you've given me a reason to hope that Apple skip Haswell and wait for Broadwell to introduce new MBPs.
