I volunteer as tribute...

Way to live up to your screenname! Take a deep breath and wait for Tuesday before you start giving people heart attacks! Just because Kuo and Tim Cook say 2014 will be big doesn't mean they'll wait to release the rMBP. They'll do a minor refresh with haswell to get us to buy this year and then bring out an even more awesome refresh in 2014 and make us regret jumping the gun.

What's going to be so big about 2014? Apple says it's going to be a big year every year.

Dunno, 9to5Mac just said that Tim Cook said at some point that it would be a big year. I would expect it to be big with Broadwell, IGZO, and the rumored big iPhone and iPad.

Personally I don't care about 2014 and just want my rMBP now!!

TC also said Fall 2013 would see the release of lots of great stuff.

MacPro, retina iPad mini, MBP, 10.9, etc. are coming this year. The only real question in my mine is whether the OCTOBER MBP will be IGZO or not.

720p 4.7 Inch iPhone
1080p 5.7 Inch iPhone
Retina MBA
IGZO (maybe 4k) rMBP with broadwell/actually a better dGPU
Cheaper iMac (???)
12.7 Inch iPad with IGZO
iWatch
Apple 55" 4k TV

These are likely Spring to Fall 2014

Has anyone seen this? 12' macbook pro in 2014

I've been following this thread for probably a month now, and since I remembered my login for the MacRumors forums, I decided to chime in.

Like all of you, I'm hoping that Oct 22nd ends up to be the release. I guess we should find out Tuesday if the event is actually going to happen then.

Actually read the article. MBA's are MacBooks too. They're planning on releasing a 12" retina MBA, which will likely replace the 11 inch and 13 inch, in favor of one model. The 12" is supposed to be in the same form factor of the 11", however feature a new clam-shell design (maybe similar to 13" MBP?).

Seems much more favorable to me. I don't understand the 11-inch and 13 inch options atm. And it's even more complicated for those trying to choose between a 13 inch MBA and 13 inch MBP. This will be much better product seperation

Lol? The Retina MBA is pretty much guaranteed in my book. A 4.5-4.7 inch iPhone also. The 5 inch + iPhone is questionable to me. However it does make much sense for them to continue offering 2 models of the iPhone as they mentioned they need to differentiate their customers this year, which wouldn't make sense for them to discontinue after one year. How else do you expect them to do that? I do expect a bump in resolution, and seeing how Retina on the iPhone is almost 720p right now, it would have to be ~1080p, so it makes sense.

By spring I mean maybe the Apple TV (not sure their progress with that) and maybe summer time for the MBA and iMac. I expect most of those to be Sep-Nov 2014 though

The 3 things we should be wondering are:

Silent update on the 15th?

Released on the 22nd announcement similar to the way the last airs were?

And

Will they come with IGZO?

I think if they are going to use IGZO they will certainly have come on the 22nd, since the improvements will be too big of a deal to do a silent update.

Lots of rMBP sold out or on order at Apple Insider Price Guide page. Six vendors sold out of high end rMBP. The cupboards are getting bare? This page did NOT look like this last week. Apple Insider Low Price Page.

I'm new to this. Is this a good sign?

It's been that way for about a week now. Up until 2 weeks ago, MM sold the 2012 model rMBP at about $600 off - they recently started carrying the Feb 2013 model. Who knows what all this means.

It means that all the old stocks of first generation rMBPs have been sold. Now MM are selling off the second generation rMBPs shortly before the expected introduction of the third generation.

If the Haswell release for the Macbook Pro in late October 2013 does not have an IGZO display, this would mean that Dell has somehow been able to get ahead of Apple in negotiations as Dell XPS 15 has IGZO displays and are in the market on October 15....

It just wouldn't make any sense for Apple to fall behind Dell like that especially considering the emphasis on "quality" of Apple hardware... and I'm sure Apple would be more deep pocketed than Dell to propose a better deal.. at least one would think...

Or they don't want to be early adopters again like they were for Retina and instead of having to optimize for another resolution (~3200x1800) they're simply going to wait for the 4k IGZO displays in 2014, and jump right to that for the 2014 rMBP, considering the current rMBP's display has a pretty decent resolution as it is. Current MBP: 2800x1800. Availabe IGZO: 3200x1800. They'll likely wait till 4k (~3800x2200) IGZO next year. Ofc, this would mean they don't get to take advantage of IGZO's battery savings this year either.

If there is no IGZO then I will have mild buyers remorse... which will continually increase until 2014 rMBP releases... sigh. Life is hard.

Agreed.

I have been wondering what they would do to sort this out for a while. The 13" MBA has almost no reason to exist next to the 13" rMBP (aside from price). The rMBP has a smaller footprint, better cooling, and overall better form factor (IMO) compared to the Air's "blade" design. Being only 1/2lb heavier has very little impact on portability.

Making a retina 13" Air made no sense (just brings the MBA and rMBP closer together), but turning the 11 and 13" Airs into a single 12" retina model could. It could lose a bit more weight compared to the 13" Air (2-2.5lbs?) and retain its position as the ultra-portable budget machine.

Same. I don't plan on upgrading again for another 4-5 years, so it would be nice if Apple threw us a bone and the rMBP went IGZO this fall.

I still feel like there's a chance of it happening if they're intending to make this rMBP all about battery life, as they did with the MBA. The retina needs a more efficient display if it's going to get anywhere near the battery life of the Air--Haswell and Mavericks can't do it by themselves.

That said, I'm preparing for the worst. If the Haswell update turns out to be unimpressive, I'll try to find a nice clearance price on an Ivy Bridge machine instead.

My 2010 MBP is on it's last legs. It used to have 10 screws holding the bottom on, now it has only 3 screws holding it on thanks to the overheating and slight expansion of the aluminium casing making them pop out. The screen is slack and ready to fall off, it won't let me run Pages for some reason and randomly freezes up when it feels like it just can't take having to play my Logic projects live anymore... :p

There are so many people here complaining that their 2009/2010 MBPs are "on their last legs" (learning a new expression every day). How can that be if they are supposed to be of a high quality build? I kind of count on using that machine 4-5 years for the money it takes to buy it.
Or have you all put such big strain on them and are using the ****** out of them?

Could you guys please tell me how that can be? Or can I hear some people who are still satisfied with their 2009/2010 machines and are upgrading just for kicks?

Yeah, like the poster who said his 09 macbook area made four years of college and is now limping. My cheap ecno Toshiba is still running five plus years.

Shouldn't we expect a longer life span of four years before critical parts start failing?

If they don't update I'll be torn on what to do.

I'm buying a new MB this year no matter what I'd much rather it be a new refreshed rMBP but if there's no update I can see a far better argument to pick up a new MBA.

I could live with my 2010 13" MBP for a few more years but the new 2013 should be such a great upgrade point from 2010 and prior.

I can/want/need it. In that order.

Excited.
