And if to believe this then you should be banned from posting.

I sense sarcasm.

if you are to believe it then I say to you, "Welcome to the Interwebs."

Last year when it was "iPad day" we got:

2012 "We've got a little more to show you"

0-14 Sales
14-25 Retina 13 Macbook
25-27 Mac Mini
27-38 iMac
38-46 iPad sales
46-69 iPad 4 / Mini
69-72 Cook Closing

So with 2013's "We still have a lot to cover" I find it hard to believe the event will not "cover" "a lot" of what they didn't update yet.

yes I know "cover" is also a play on ipads needing covers. But it also straight up says "a lot to cover". It would be a BIG let down if that means 2 things.

I like the "a lot" to cover and your reference to iPad covers. However aren't they making the iPad smaller (NOT TO BE READ AS iPAD Mini 2) so in effect it would be LESS to cover ;);)

was there only a 13" release of the rmp last year? hopefully there is a release of the 15" too, next week

No -- production was delayed to Q1 2014, which means the first Broadwell-equipped laptops could ship in summer 2014. But since Apple seems to like making people wait, I'd guesstimate that we'll see a Broadwell rMBP around November 2014.

Yes, that was something I wanted to hear.

Weren't there rumors of a new 13" iPad?
There would certainly be a lot more to cover on that one

I got the idea that the 128MB of Iris Pro are actually faster than usual video RAM, since they are basically L4 cache. Though I might be mis-remembering.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M:
128-bit GDDR5 @ 5016MHz = 80.3 GB/s

Intel Iris Pro 5200:
128-bit DDR3 @ 1600MHz = 25.6GB/s AND
eDRAM @ 1600MHz = 50GB/s bi-directional bandwidth (100GB/s aggregate)

"Intel claims that it would take a 100 - 130GB/s GDDR memory interface to deliver similar effective performance to Crystalwell [intel's name for the edram] since the Crystalwell is a cache." Crystalwell is also usable by the cpu: "potential use as a very large CPU cache"

there simply IS a reason if you do 3D animation and need CUDA to render, not to mention the beefy card will help with the viewport too.. but hey, if creative professionals aren't their target market anymore maybe they should drop the "pro" in the title.

Oh, not this argument again, where people try to decide who qualifies as "pro" and who doesn't.

Iris Pro handles CUDA just fine - I believe the benchmarks showed it doing better than the GeForce 650M, in fact. And it can handle large displays as well as a discrete GPU can. The only thing Iris Pro will fall short on is its speed at retrieving large textures from memory, and that will only affect you if you play 3D games that haven't been ported to Mac OS anyway.

I'll say it again - there is simply no reason to have a discrete GPU in a Mac laptop any more. The battery life gained across the board by using Iris Pro far more than outweighs the loss of the two or three people who wanted to use a MacBook Pro as a gaming laptop.

eDRAM @ 1600MHz = 50GB/s bi-directional bandwidth (100GB/s aggregate

Aggregating those figures is not generally wrong. However, to fully saturate all this bandwidth, the GPU workload must read and write roughly the same amount of data at the same time. And, of course, most of that data has to be cached. The GDDR5-setup is more flexible.

For me personally, there are two reasons why I might prefer the Iris Pro: First, having more power in light workloads, especially driving the UI in scaled mode. I saw that the 15' rMBP's HD4000 can struggle with UI effects while running in scaled mode, and I am not sure that the HD4600 will be that much better. Second, the OpenCL performance seems to be very nice and would be a plus in FCPX.

Having a 760m would make the decision much easier. But I don't think that this will happen.

Only NVidia GPUs can run CUDA at all (you can run CUDA in debug mode on a CPU but it's virtualized and very very slow). I actually agree with the rest of your sentiments but this part is not true. OpenCL, OpenACC, and C++AMP likely run just fine on Iris but not CUDA.

I'm so sick and tired of those "PRO" arguments! Clearly, the major target audience for mac books are rich college kids [...].

Then there is also still a market among the DTP and media professionals because of decade-long "IMAGE inertia" <-go figure :D

P.S. Adobe Creative Suite (PRO) also runs on "cheap" PCs (less ca$h).
I agree with you more or less but...

...I'm a (professional) software developer. The reason why I'll buy a MacBook Pro instead of an Air is because I run automatic tests very often.

These tests could not be CPU/GPU intensive as complex rendering but buy the most poweful CPU available will save me few seconds every run. At the end of the week this means I'd be more productive, I'd wait less and being less stressed.

Also given the fact my profession imply I'm in front of my computer all the day I guess the retina display will mean less stress for my eyes.

But again I agree with you many people could simply go for an Air and live very happy. If the money is not a limiting factor and you don't need a huge buttery life buy the Pro is a better option anyway currently (for the screen).

Does anyone else think they're going to release the Haswell iPad Mini with retina display next week :p?

Last we've heard, the 13-inch will reduce in thickness from 0.75 to 0.71. But that's minimal, and the chasis on both sizes will otherwise remain the same.

Heard this as well but I’m puzzled why Apple would even make .04mm a priority which is why I question the validity of such a claim. Aesthetically, nobody would notice. Admittedly though, I’m not sure how a .04mm savings in aluminum translates into profits though. I’d think it would be negligible.

And totally! Keynote it's way much better than PP :D
My boss would laugh my ass out of the office if I submitted a presentation in Keynote.

can someone listen the missing feature of Excel for Mac in comparison with Excel for Win.
For starters:

-No MS SQL Cube access
-A lot of plugin support is missing especially with datasets
-some complex macros get screwed up on the mac. (Typically legacy crap because many enterprise environments don't update their versions of MS-Office).

These are all minor for me.

For example, is excel for Mac able to import and export csv files?
Yes.

I'm getting Broadwell.
Same here. I hope it shows before 2016 though.

I really do detest the CUDA arguments, it's too bad I can't really input anything into these conversations as I don't even use any of these programs.

The CUDA argument, detestable or not, is still a valid one. It is far more mature than OpenCL, however since intels embrace of openCL cpu's I predict eventually openCL will eventually beat out CUDA, but for now, as a 3D animator who needs quick renders and high count fluid and particle simulation, there is no substitute for CUDA. On the flip side, not many people need this.. and while valid, the advantages of CUDA would probably be utilized by <1 of buyers..

LOL... sorry, only NVIDIA cards have CUDA. You should probably stop making stuff up. either that or you are just misinformed.

Where are the plain leaks? I'm getting worried!

Seems like they invest more in secrecy at Foxconn than in enabling proper working conditions.

Can. Not. Wait. To see the all of the fools who desperately tried to justify a $2K purchase for old tech thinking it'd be announced next year. And by doing so, felt stupid and inundated this forum with the same old BS pessimism trying to make us people look insane for being willing to wait. That, my friends, will be the best reward we can all get after such a wait. Priceless 2.0

That is being generous. Look at last years rMBP launch. People were waiting over a month for systems ordered from Apple on release day. There was a giant thread of people tracking Fedex planes lol. And of course, other vendors had supply problems also.

That situation is also not even remotely comparable or analogous to this update. Last year was a major change in form factor and capabilities. This year is just an incremental update. There won't be much difference between ordering from Apple and a third party reseller on this revision—if any.

Do we typically see leaks for the MacBooks? Im trying to remember the last time leaks of upcoming MBPs occurred..

you probably will see that because consumer reports hates apple products

That's an absurd claim. They've given incredibly high praise to a number of products. Just because they're objective and call a spade a spade rather than acting like a bunch of drooling fanboys does not mean they "hate" Apple products.

There have been very, very few (non-trolling) people in this forum who have argued that new models weren't coming in 2013. Stop re-writing the narrative to make yourself feel better about the wait.

----------

Before the iMac refresh, I was expecting the 15" rMBP to have the Iris Pro. Now I think it will keep the dGPU - as there isn't much sense in giving the premium Apple notebook the same GPU as the base iMac which is approximately half the price.

Except for the leaked benchmarks.

And the fact that buys aren't comparing desktops to laptops because those comparisons are apples to oranges, no pun intended.

And the fact that iGPUs are where the industry is going.

And the fact that most consumers don't even know what's faster, but rather will just go with the marketing hype.

And the fact that...sigh, we've been over this countless times by now.

Newcomer to this thread. Having skimmed a few pages of this thread it sounds like there's a consensus that Apple will NOT release a Haswell MBP Tuesday. Can someone simplify as to why?

Thanks.

Why would I make myself feel better? I own an early 2013 15-inch and the Haswell Air. I don't need to feel better about the wait -- I couldn't care less about it. I'm excited to see a new product I've been expecting for a while come out. I just highlighted the fact that so many people were talking about 2014 or criticized the potential specs of a non-released computer - to make themselves feel better about spending $2K on the eve of the refresh. I didn't know you kept tabs about how many people said x, y or z with such accuracy. Sorry to disappoint, I don't spend my life obsessively checking MR. I guess some people have more time than others. But thank you for your reminder, MR police officer.

The concensous is exactly the opposite -- with the exception of a few trolls and a few pessimists, everyone else expectes the new MBP's to be announced on Tuesday.

Why? No reasons. People that say it's not coming, base this on the fact that there are also no solid indications that it WILL come. Since there is no proof, they say it will not happen.

Kind of like the people that didn't believe the earth was round. Until somebody proved it is.

"We still have a lot to cover" just means that they're bringing out new smart covers for the iPad. There will be no new electronics until Q3 2014.

Ha! nice.
But you better be careful. Somebody might take you seriously and you'll get a warning for trolling.

Waiting for next Tuesday is like waiting for Christmas day, except you can't sneak a peak inside your parents' closet to see what you're actually getting. So we could get a big fat nuttin' next week, but my slightly easy earned cash is on the 22nd being the day we will know when they will be released.

If I could decide

If I can decide:
0-1 Sales
1-18 Mavericks
19-29 rMBP with TB2 and 14 hours battery, dGPU optional and more
30-42 Mac Pro / 4K Cinema Display
43-48 iWorks 14 for Mavericks
49-50 iPad sales / iOS 7 XX% updated the first two weeks and android is fragmented mixed un-updated trash & bag of hurt & iPhone 5 S/C in 40 countries in october & from now on Apple is happy with 20% profit margins on all their stuff
51-52 Ridiculing "Full of Schmidt" for saying Android is safer than iPhone
53-55 iPad 5 /iPad Mini Retina /iPad 13
56-58 Mac Pro with 4K & rMBP commercial
59-60 Cook Closing saying you can lick on the new rMBP & Mac Pro and 4K display in lobby after this

Please!
