The $1299 for 13" rmbp is not really a price drop. They'll charge at least $100 for the RAM upgrade. Most people will want 256 GB flash storage which again will cost an extra $300. $1799 for a pretty "basic" configuration, which will either:

1. Push people to get the Macbook Air
2. Push people to get the 15" rmbp which will seem like a bargain

I think there will be a mixed reaction to the updates today. We were right on some things, and wrong on others.

But I'm still stoked.

That mac pro segment was a snoozefest. Did they even say the available date - I think I slept with my eyes open during that one.

14,000 - woohoo!

I am really bummed that they downgraded from 8GB to 4GB ram on the base 13 retina. Really offsets the price drop as I can't envision not getting 8.

We'll find out soon, but I would not be surprised to be able to get the 13" model with 8GB of DRAM and 256GB of SSD for $1499 or $1599.

All in all the Haswell update was NOT worth the wait. Really disappointing "update". I'm happy with my early 2013, I feel bittersweet for those who waited patiently for this moment, but reassured in my purchase. Mavericks OS X come to papa!

I'd keep your existing machine, no question, unless we see something in the tech specs that wasn't in they keynote. I have that same model, and money is no object (other than the principle thing), and I don't think I'm going to get a Haswell...

Exactly what I was thinking. Thanks.

Man, this thread EXPLODED... I'm on hold with local stores now to see if I can pick one up today...

so am I wrong, or did they take away the dedicated graphics in the macbook pros? Oh man am I glad I did not waste my time waiting for this crap and got a windows laptop instead.

You're wrong. It's an option on the 15" model: Nvidia 750. The base 15" model won't have it though, the 13" never did.

Enjoy windows 8.

really depends on how much better mavericks optimizes ram

I promise you guys that I won't open this thread with my brand new macbook pro retina!

As a German I'd like to say:

"Mr. Admin, tear down this thread!"

28 years, East Germany was seperated by a Soviet wall, 9 month I was figuratively seperated by a "Waiting for Haswell MBP Mega Thread" from my new rMBP.

My date of rMBP conception was February 8th - prior to that date, I thought my next laptop will be a Dell. After 15 years as a windows user, welcome to macs.

PDFierro PDFierro do you copy me?

YESSS: NEW IWORK CONFIRMED. MAJOR UPDATE

Have

Yes. Money was the main reason for being on the fence.

But now what I will buy will cost me 100$ less than the previous model so I will go for it (i5/8GB/128SSD).
Well I still have to decide the configuration so suggestions are welcome (it really depends if that option will be available as BTO and the cost for 256GB).

But I will definitely buy it this evening as soon as the Apple store come back online

Awesome. And sorry I didn't see the post! Thread is moving so quick.

I really can't wait until the event is over so I can take a look at all the small details, such as what the configurations are like.
