Guys,

Thinking of getting the 15" base model and adding the 512gb SSD for an additional $230.

I know add ons are usually overpriced, but this doesnt seem too awful. Any comments?

It's not a horrible deal, especially given the pricing OWC has charged for a 512GB user upgrade to the rMBPs.

You can't select it individually and don't need to.

2,0Ghz -> Iris Pro
2,3Ghz -> Iris Pro, 750m
2,6Ghz -> Iris Pro, 750m

There are no other options. The choice of CPU automatically determines the inclusion of the 750m.

I highly doubt that, because the upgrade to the 2,3Ghz is only 100$ more. I don't think Apple would make an upgrade for a complete new dGPU + faster CPU for only 100$

Well I view it as a 5 year investment but ****ing hell I just spent a ******** of money:

15-inch: 2.3GHz
with Retina display
Specifications
2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
Turbo Boost up to 3.5GHz
16GB 1600MHz memory
512GB PCIe-based flash storage 1
Intel Iris Pro Graphics
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M
with 2GB GDDR5 memory
Built-in battery (8 hours)2

Come to me my precious... :D

Depends on how serious you take your gaming, and how important money is to you. If I still played a lot of games, my first choice would be the new high-end configuration, followed by the previous generation rMBP, which should have very attractive close-out pricing. I wouldn't get the "new" base configuration as a serious gamer.

I'm not that serious but I would like to just be able to play stuff like F1 2013 etc at a decent tilt (better than PS3 anyway) Just casual play really.

I've been following this thread for months now, glad it finally happened! I could nice some advice though

Aside from the difference in screen size, which one would you pick:

'13
256GB
i7 2.8-3.3
IRIS
16RAM

or

'15
256GB
i7 2.0-3.2
IRIS Pro
8RAM

?

Both would max out my price range. I'm heavily leaning towards the 13 incher. It's basically a fully loaded 13 versus the entry 15. Additionally, is it worth upgrading from 8 to 16 RAM if I don't use it for video editing?

What do you use it for? If its just web surfing, movies and general programs, you are unlikely to ever use 8gigs

Now that I've gotten a chance to look at the configuration options on the Apple site, it seems like it's not really much of a price drop. Poisonivy326 sums it up nicely below. Though with the education pricing I will still get a bit of a break, just not as much as it initially seemed like.

In Canada the base high-end model is $150 cheaper ($2649 vs $2799). Which is pretty nice.

The equivalent early-2013 refurbs are now $2169 ($200 off the old refurb price).

But factoring in my buddy's 15% employee discount makes the Haswell $2250... meaning it's essentially a no-brainer for me to go with the new model since it's only $90 more than the refurb price.

Long story short, the price drop definitely makes me feel better about the (expected) not-so-sexy update in specs.

I heard employees have to wait 3 months for new products.

Thanks - I heard it varies on certain products (ex iPhone and iPad not for first 3 months, but there is some doubt on other items)

just wondering if anyone had any luck...my friend isn't back to work until tomorrow and hate waiting unnecessarily

I believe that the most upgraded model is the 13" full specs BTO model. I will probably go for that. Can you people compare the 15" entry BTO model with the 13" max specs BTO model? Below are the specs:

13-inch: 2.6GHz
with Retina display
Specifications

2.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
8GB 1600MHz memory
512GB PCIe-based flash storage1
Intel Iris Graphics
Built-in battery (9 hours)2

£1,288.80

15-inch: 2.0GHz
with Retina display
Specifications

2.0GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
8GB 1600MHz memory
256GB PCIe-based flash storage1
Intel Iris Pro Graphics

Built-in battery (8 hours)2

£1,443.60

Which one would you buy and why? [Edit: UK Education Store prices]

Sorry this doesn't really answer your question, I'm buying a 13inch if that helps hah.

I can't log onto the education store at home, could you please check something for me? How much is the middle 13 inch model - the one with the 256gb ssd - upgraded to 16gb ram?

I'd really appreciate your help!

So I have the base model early 2013 15" rMBP, still unopened. Was in two minds about it until I knew what was going to change today. Now i'm thinking I should just crack this bad boy open.

As far as I can see, the same price new base model gets rid of the Nvidia card, so already that's a downer if I play the odd game, and do mainly photo/video editing, right? Have the CPUs actually been upgraded to Haswell, or is this new CPU they announced (can't remember the name) a completely different thing? Is that why the battery life is only 1 hour more, as opposed to the 3 or so hours that i've been reading so much about?

From what I can see the only advantages of this new base model 15" is better wifi technology, and PCIe SSD, right, and that slightly better battery life, am I wrong? :/

Also, the other thing, I guess the main thing, that's been bugging me and making me unsure of the laptop I purchased is going with 8gb ram, rather than upping it to 16gb. I do photo editing and some video editing. However after hearing about the new OS, and how it can better utilise ram, maybe it'll be alright after all?

I personally have no use for Time Capsule. I won't even get AppleCare, I don't think. 2TB or 3TB depends on your uses. But maybe 3TB if you can afford it?

I've never used it - have not backed up files in eons. haha. Maybe I'll just settle for 2TB - I'm getting a 1TB drive anyway. I can always buy an external and connect. Thanks!

2.6GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz
16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
512GB PCIe-based Flash Storage
Backlit Keyboard (English) & User's Guide

Is this good? or do I really need the 1tb flash storage? because on my current computer I only used 155.8 gb

Me too, but I guess they were hoping to get users to make the leap, since it's a higher margin product.

needlessly expensive for no gain, though. Never going to max out integrated graphics with 4600, let alone with iris pro, with their super conservative use of dedicated graphics.

Except there are 3 base options for the 13" now...

$1299 2.4/4/128
$1499 2.4/8/256
$1799 2.6/8/512

The middle "better" option is $200 more than the high end MBA, which is $1299 for a 1.3/4/256. You get a much faster processor, twice as much RAM, Iris 5100 instead of HD 5000, the Retina screen, & TB2 for that $200. Seems like a good deal to me!

Will Apple Stores carry the 15.4'' 2.3ghz, 16gb, 512gb, model in stores??

Or will they only carry special addition, maxed out versions (with highest cpu, and 1tb ssd)?
