I think they screwed up the specs page. The other explanation doesn't make any sense. Currently:

Base model without dGPU ($1999) + 2,3Ghz + 16GB Ram + 512GB flash = $2599
Top-end model with dGPU = $2599

In addition, we had those leaks from that chinese website which turned out to be spot on. Those only spoke of three versions: 2,0Ghz without dGPU and 2,3Ghz/2,6Ghz with dGPU.

So I want exactly this:
Base model without dGPU ($1999) + 2,3Ghz + 16GB Ram + 512GB flash = $2599

What do I do? Wait and pray? ... Do I call their support?

Just ordered mine

  • 13" MBP Retina
  • 2.8 GHZ I7
  • 16GB Ram
  • 512SSD

$2,435.37 OTD with tax/education discount

Dude, something seems wrong with that price.

The 13" rMBP with 2.8 GHz i7/16/512 is a list price of $2199. I assume the EDU discount is $200, which means you are paying $436.37 in taxes?

I hope that you are quoting non-US pricing, or bought AppleCare and didn't include it. Even if you did include AppleCare, your taxes would be 187.37.

In any case, congrats! That's the same config I'm going to order! :)

I am really disappointed with the non dGPU in the 15" base model. I think I go for a early 2013 model with dGPU, 16gb, 256gb which is available for 2100 Euros at some stores. I want to play some games now and then but not for 2600 Euros.

Boggles the mind that this is only marginally less than the 15"/2.3GHz/16GB/512GB model ($2,449.00 + tax, edu price) in Canada.

I doubt the Iris Pro can handle retina resolution at 2880x1800. What do you think?

Iris pro can handle 4k movies, outperforms the GT650....i think it'll do just fine. Do you really think they would release a laptop that couldn't even support its own display

the 4000 could so that would be suprising

and what in the HELL did they do to that spare space in the 15" no gpu version. It pisses me off to have a empty space in my notebook.

That's not what I said either. What I said was

Given the fact that the Iris Pro is hardly a slow piece of hardware, and, as you probably know, can match or even exceed the nvidia chip in some areas, I see no reason why the option of not having one for the higher-end cpu isn't there.

Because you're getting it for "free." BTO the low-end's processor, RAM, and SSD, and boom, you arrive at the same price.

You get everything you wanted. You just don't get a discount on top of them and, instead, you get a free extra feature. It's really not anything to complain about.

Empty space?? Oh, you mean your "iStashBox"? Awesome feature. I've always wanted a laptop with a secret compartment in it...

Wow, I wake up two hours after the event and there are 41 new pages here…

Still, very happy that there's a 16GB RAM option on the 13"

Nooo, that had more to do with the software than the hardware. The HD 4000 runs just fine for most everyday tasks under Mavericks.

You are right. Paying this much. You need to be sure to buy in the perfect timing. No pushing hardware to limitation like last time. It would be great. There was lagging performance problem with last gen.

...to save $50 and not have a dGPU?? I don't get it.

I don't want a dGPU because it is annoying to switch GPU all the time. I don't know if it functions the same way my current Acer laptop does, but if it does it keeps switching GPU every single time I plug in and out my charger. And it CAN NOT be fixed. I swear. I am done having to deal with 2 GPUs, same way I am done using Crossfire GPU on stationary PC (witch does not work on windowed mode...).

I expect the same specs without a dGPU to cost way less than -50$ too.

Not happy here. Ram is still 1600. Not 1833 like Mac Pro.

The Macbook Pro is a long way off the Mac Pro in many ways, but there isn't much point for Apple to move to 1833 when DDR4 is probably coming next year.

I'm actually trying to decide whether or not to go all-in with the 2.6GHz processor (i.e. on the 15"/16/512 config).

I realize this is the de facto "Apple idiot tax" considering the very modest performance gains, but hey, this is a once-in-five-years purchase after all...
