Did the battery life actually improve in the haswell 15 inch Macbook Pro due to the processor or was it because of Mavericks? I was honestly disappointed to find out that they only managed to squeeze out an extra hour with all this talk about massively reduced power consumption in haswell.

Will Apple Stores carry the 15.4'' 2.3ghz, 16gb, 512gb, model in stores??

Or will they only carry special edition, maxed out versions (with highest cpu, and 1tb ssd)?

Maybe a better question - did Apple Stores carry that spec version for the ivy bridge model?

the 8hr quote covers the dgpu option also, so i would expect the igpu only to get 9ish hours

i expect they didn't want to show worse battery with the dgpu to customers as it might prevent people spending more money to get the dgpu option

hard to know, they did have the ultimate spec model last gen in stores, however the 1tb is considerably more expensive and would probably have fewer people buying it than the 768 model, so just wait and see i guess

i'm getting the 15" model with descrete graphics but not sure whether to spend the ~325 US dollars (British price :() on the 2.6 Ghz processor or if 2.3Ghz is enough.

they are both i7
they are both 6mb cache

does anyone know how much better the 2.6 is? is it 13% better as the 0.3 suggests or do the numbers not work like this

i do a lot of processor intensive tasks at the same time
im maxing out the ram
i dont need the $325 for anything in particular (eg no need for "spend it on x instead") but i would rather not spend it if i dont have to

thanks very very much to anyone who can help. :D

But seriously, don't feed apple with your hard earned money. keep the 2.3. It'll be sufficient even for processor intensive tasks.

Oh damn, they got thunderbolt 2. Did they increase the display resolution of the 13-inch, or am I just remembering it wrong.

Nope. They didn't. But yeah, Thunderbolt 2. And the 13-inch got thinner/lighter by the slim margin that was rumored before.

You have a lot of catching up to do, haha.

Why can i not buy a dGPU option without the 512GB ? Is that model the only way to get the 750M?
Was the rMBP always just two SKUs ? nothing or everything options !

I fed apple :/ I paid the extra $180 usd (edu pricing) I do 3D animation and will need every drop of power from it.. however, its still a ripoff.. I just had to have the best possible macbook.

So im getting the base 15", however im debating 8 or 16 gb ram, ill be doing like basis video editing, Photoshop, and like league of legends. With basemodell only gave iris pro, do you need 16 gb ram?!

Do you think next year there will be a more significant design change with Broadwell? I was hoping for like an all black/space grey version.

This proves apple is still in the game.
They pretty much fulfilled all my requests.
13" rMBP
i5
256GB PCIe SSD
8GB RAM
And a few bucks off.
Thunderbolt 2 is a huge plus.

I'm pleased. Now I have to wait until best buy carries them.

We carry the two 15-inch models listed on the site as well as a full maxed out version

Please stop making up incorrect information. Battery life estimates have always been based on usage with the iGPU only. The dGPU had and has absolutely nothing to do with it. The marketing number is 8, with the iGPU. Individual mileage may vary.

Battery life for the 15" version is disappointing, especially given that this upgrade has both Haswell and Mavericks. It seems like it's XPS for me.

It also seems like both Dell and Apple are trolling me. Dell has not yet released the XPS 15 in my country, and shipments seem to be slow even in countries were you can buy it. Meanwhile Apple's prices are unchanged in my country. The iGPU-only version costs as much as the old base 650m, and the 750m is even more expensive!

I guess it's all a matter of perspective. I'm coming from a dell xps with 2hrs battery life - this is a huge bonus.

Did you get AppleCare? That is my last hurdle before ordering right now. Initially I wasn't even considering it, but now I am.

I did not. Apple gives me one year to subscribe for it and on top of that I have *legally* two years of ''Apple Care''. In other words, I would be spending over 200 bucks just to cover 12 months from year 2 to 3. I'm gonna decide this in 10 months, not now.

Yeah, but some people don't like that the cheapest 15-inch model only has an iGPU.

----------

Yeah, that's correct. But with the education discount, I could get it for $183. So it's now or never for me.

If I understand correctly, the UK Education Store offers 3 yrs Applecare (Repair Coverage) and 1 yr telephone support for free. You can extend to 3 yrs of telephone support for £48. I don't know if this is the case with other Education stores.

same. i was going to get the 16gb at first, but that will involve waiting longer (custom built, shipping).

i have decided to go with the 8gb option as i can walk into the store as soon as they have them and pick one up, its cheaper, and currently i am using: 849mb active ram, 723mb cached ram, on my desktop with 8gb, so i don't really need 16gb

i do occasionally run a vm, and having 4gb for each os is plenty, im not sure how effectively the video editing programs use available ram (do they cache the whole video file you imported / working on? ...)

for photoshop and lol/dota2 you will not need much as they are 32bit anyways and you shouldn't have a need for other intensive programs open while playing a game (i just checked, dota2 in a game uses 1.8gb for me (on an 8gb machine))

I'm actually trying to decide whether or not to go all-in with the 2.6GHz processor (i.e. on the 15"/16/512 config).

I realize this is the de facto "Apple idiot tax" considering the very modest performance gains, but hey, this is a once-in-five-years purchase after all...

I went for the Apple Super Idiot tax... 2.6GHz processor on the 15"/16/1TB. I hope it's well worth it and I get to enjoy many days with it.

pretty much what i expected but was still hoping for an Iris Pro in the 13 inch. At least it has thunderbolt 2 so i can hook up an external graphics card.
It's nice that it is lighter, thinner and cheaper.
The cheapest 13" rMBP with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD is just $100 more than the cheapest 13" MBA with 8GB RAM and 256 SSD.

So, who's disappointed by the update? And who think that this update satisfies all the needs of this thread? And who thinks that's impossible:p? Who's surprised about the update? And lastly, who's just happy it finally came?
