RIP classic MBP !

They could have put an Haswell processor in the classic macbook pro..or dim the price from 1200.. they are seriously taking the piss...that model is more than a year old..
Basically we can officially say that it is the end of "upgradable" apple computers.

I don't want a dGPU because it is annoying to switch GPU all the time. I don't know if it functions the same way my current Acer laptop does, but if it does it keeps switching GPU every single time I plug in and out my charger. And it CAN NOT be fixed. I swear. I am done having to deal with 2 GPUs, same way I am done using Crossfire GPU on stationary PC (witch does not work on windowed mode...).

I expect the same specs without a dGPU to cost way less than -50$ too.

Well, I definitely hear where your coming from. My 2010 MBP had this "feature" which was a nuisance until an app came out which let you control the switching yourself. At which point it became a non-issue.

Obviously, all we can do is pray that Apple have a better graphics card switching system in place with Mavericks.

I'm actually trying to decide whether or not to go all-in with the 2.6GHz processor (i.e. on the 15"/16/512 config).

I realize this is the de facto "Apple idiot tax" considering the very modest performance gains, but hey, this is a once-in-five-years purchase after all...

I don't think it's idiotic at all. I am very close to ordering and would get the i7. But I don't need 16GB RAM.

uhh no. we want to know everything now! call your friend and demand an answer!

~~~~The truth is, no other surprise than the graphic card I mentioned.
Everything else is so~~~~normal....
I didn't expect a thunderbolt 2, but frankly I don't even use it at all.
But I do like the price drop.
It doesn't function like your Acer. The switching is smarter (albeit not great). And if you install gfxCardStatus, you have complete control over it. It's really a non-issue.
The switch from the integrated to dGPU is seamless on my rMBP... It always has been.
On my early unibody MBP, you had to log out and come back in, but that isn't the case anymore.
Been waiting since WWDC.... Just ordered the 13"/2.8GHz i7/16GB/512GB
I would have loved to see a Quad Core and Iris Pro on the 13, but even if the price is the same as the base model 15 I prefer the 13 form factor and weight.
2.3 vs 2.6
i'm getting the 15" model with descrete graphics but not sure whether to spend the ~325 US dollars (British price :() on the 2.6 Ghz processor or if 2.3Ghz is enough.
they are both i7
they are both 6mb cache
does anyone know how much better the 2.6 is? is it 13% better as the 0.3 suggests or do the numbers not work like this
i do a lot of processor intensive tasks at the same time
im maxing out the ram
i dont need the $325 for anything in particular (eg no need for "spend it on x instead") but i would rather not spend it if i dont have to
thanks very very much to anyone who can help. :D
Why is everyone going 16GB? 8GB not enought? With the pcie-HD, Mavericks etc do you really need 16?
Will do some matlab etc, but nothing too heavy...
I currently have 8GB on my Dell and it's okay. I chose to max out on RAM as I'll be running parallels for windows as that's what I need for work.
so now the debate is for the same price 15" 16gb/512gb/2.3ghz you can choose if you wanta dGPU or not?
Ok guys.
I just wanted to say thank you and good bye to everyone.
It was a good waith toghether.
Just bought 13" i5/8/128
Did you get AppleCare? That is my last hurdle before ordering right now. Initially I wasn't even considering it, but now I am.
13" Iris ????
Guys, your help would be appreciated: Does anyone know where it says precisely which Iris is in the 13"?
I know we think it's the 5100 but I can't find anything that supports this...
You tell me. :D
Nevermind, I just checked the website. I guess all he dgpu supporters are pretty happy.:D I love that the price dropped, perhaps by next year a 256 GB SSD will be the included in the base model, but it's pretty sad that they included only 4GB of RAM in that model.
Hello PDFierro.
I will get Applecare in the next months, but not immediately.
If I'm correct I have 12 months to buy it and, in these months, I'm covered exactly as I have it.
Yeah, but some people don't like that the cheapest 15-inch model only has an iGPU.
Yeah, that's correct. But with the education discount, I could get it for $183. So it's now or never for me.
