I am happy with the update.
I will be picking up:
13" rMBP/2.4/8GB/256GB - middle option, no upgrades. $1449 (education discount) + tax = $1,637 CAD.
The only thing I can think I may upgrade is the 8 to 16GB, but I doubt I need that. I do some photo editing, but not a professional by any means.

Yep. Correct.

Really? Thank god, I was getting pretty worried about that. Edit: Damn it Apple, it costs 200$ in the Canadian Education Apple store. Close, but no cigar.:(

----------

Score! The new rMBPs are available for employee discount. Now I just have to decide if I want to order or wait and see if the stores get them :D

What's the price for you? Or did we already cover this:D.

Oh yeah, another fellow Canadian. The middle option is probably the one that will suit everyone's taste/needs/budget.

Clever indeed, I do expect some word on a 4K TB2 Cinema Display to go along with the Mac Pro announcement. What would a new Mac Pro be without a awesome display to go with it?

0-14 Sales
14-25 Mavericks
25-28 MBP
28-37 Mac Pro / 4K Cinema Display
37-46 iPad sales / iOS 7
46-69 iPad 5 / Mini Retina
69-72 Cook Closing

I was surprisingly close right? Just the 4K CInema Display..

Get Applecare later! (Hint: it's cheaper from B&H Photo.)

You'll forget if you put it off for later, I know I would. AppleCare in the regular Canadian Appstore is 279$, and with the education discount, it's 200$. How come we Canadians have to pay more for AppleCare than the country that once ruled us, the UK.

I was hoping for that 4K display to make an appearance, perhaps by next year then.

i will give you the $50 to make up for your overpriced AppleCare if you give me the £350 difference in cost of the actual computer :p

How much is it in the UK? I found it for 279pounds...
Can you buy Apple Care from anywhere or has to be from the country you bought the laptop in?

I have an old PC equiped with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD5650 1 Go DDR3 up to 2.7 Go HyperMemory. The question might look dumb but how does Iris pro surpasses it ?

Soooo....
This thread really exploded.
Have anyone actually got their hand of a Haswell rMBP yet?
Read some reports about the Apple stores not having them in stock yet :S
That don't sound good for my planned trip to the Apple store tomorrow here in Sweden.
I thought they would be stocked in stores for all you US guys today.

Just ordered the 13" - i7/256/16GB

After the disappointing dGPU on the 15" I instead opted for my favourite form factor of 13" and will be instead building a thunderbolt 2 based external GPU DIY project.

Well, I haven't had a problem with a computer where I've had to return it after a couple of years, and AppleCare is 200$. I could use that money to get 16 GB of RAM, or maybe a larger SSD.

That sounds awesome, but make sure to post it on MacRumours so we can check it out too.

Well, someone else was saying in the education store for the UK that AppleCare is free, and I do believe you can buy AppleCare from any country, but don't take my word for it.

Agreed. I plan on updating to the Broadwell rMBP when that comes out anyway. AppleCare was just something I hadn't considered before, but I don't think I'm going for it. I had honestly not even given it a second look before, but all things cross your mind when you make a purchase like this!

----------

Finally ordered! Glad I took my time, though. Beats the hassle of placing multiple orders.

So, who's disappointed by the update? And who think that this update satisfies all the needs of this thread? And who thinks that's impossible:p? Who's surprised about the update? And lastly, who's just happy it finally came?

I'm surprised Apple went with the bizarro Iris Pro/750M combo in the higher end model, for sure. A luxurious move, bordering on redundant, but hey, I'll take it!

Also surprised they appear to have chosen to funnel more of the surplus Haswell power into clocking rather than battery life. This is a pleasant surprise to me--although it remains to be seen just how much faster this machine will run as a result...

And the price drop quelled whatever resentments I might have had about the otherwise modest improvements.

So yeah, I guess you could say I'm happy. I'll be ordering as soon as my Apple Store buddy gives me the 'Friends & Family' go-ahead. ;)

What did you end up ordering?

So with the base 15 having the iris pro taking memory from ram, it it sufficient with 8gb or do you need 16?

For photoshop, some league of legends, some video editing.

I.e I dont want to get 8 and regret it, and I dont want 16 if I use say only 8 anyway :p

aaand just ordered 15" / 16GB / 512GB SSD / GT750m/Iris Pro variant.

See you next year everyone!

Well they boned 15" buyers pretty bad. Other than that I think the 13" is absolutely fantastic!

Also, still 720p camera's for both? Really?

Well, I'm considering leaving Apple after this update. Even though my work pays for desktop, laptop and cell (and maybe a tablet if I have been a good boy), I can't seem to get a horizontal integration with these updates. At home I need a good GPU (Mac Pro is not ideal for my uses), and when being mobile I need something more powerful than an average Iris (5100, and 15" is not mobile, if you believe so, you don't have any mobile needs ). Besides, it defeats the purpose if I get a non apple device e.g. a laptop, then I can just get non Apple devices all over and have a better total experience as the integration would be better. So, I need a desktop, laptop and a cell. And I'm struggling with finding any solutions that Apple can provide

Any thoughts?
