Because you can get like 1000 TB of storage for five cents in the form of external drives?
The SSD upgrade is still way overpriced. And ostensibly it's still a user-upgradeable component, so you can add more later if you really can't live with a "paltry" 512GB.
I badly need some expert help, as I have been waiting for the MBP like all of you since over 8 months and now I am going crazy not knowing what I should order as I am not technically expert, so please please help me ASAP so I can place my order:
1. First, all what I do is Microsoft Office and extensive Internet browsing with 50 - 100 tabs open at the same time most of the times and several apps ale open. when I look at the 'Activity Monitor' in my current cMBP, I see that I am using my full RAM which is 4GB, then I also see something I do not understand called Virtual Memory, and I am using about 12GB of that. Now, does this mean that I should say that I am using 12GB and that I need to go for the 16GB, or should I only count the 4GB and go for the 8GB?
2. I guess you all probably agree from my usage that I do not need dGPU, or correct me if I am wrong? Now, I am willing to upgrade to the 2.3 processor anyway as it is not expensive, and if you advise me that the 16GB RAM will also be nice, then I am thinking that may be the ready higher model with these specs in addition to 512GB SSD would be a more cost-effective upgrade. The big question for me here, I know everyone here considers the dGPU as a bonus, but for me, I am really concerned about it eating power and throttling the CPU and also releasing more heat which I HATE?
You cannot imagine how much I will appreciate a thorough advice regarding that to help me place my order before shipping timeframes change?
Thanks a BUCNH!
Get the 15" base model (no dGPU) maxed out to 16GB ram.
Reasoning:
- you don't know why you might need a dGPU, so you probably will be perfectly happy with IRIS pro.
- you can never have too much ram
- lots of screen-work means you'd probably want a larger and more comfortable screen.
no one really needs 16 gb of ram, its just nice to have
when u do alot of stuff at the same time , u will notice a difference
if u plan on keeping the laptop for a long while i would go for the 16 gb. Thats what im gonna do, and i also dont really need it
Question for you folks
I'm planning on getting a maxed out 13inch. 16GBs of Ram, 1TB, 2.8 processor.
My question is about games in the Mac App Store. For instance Call of Duty Black Ops specifically says if you have an HD 4000 do not purchase this game. How much better is the Iris Graphics on the 13inch? Do you think I can comfortably spend 50 bucks on that game and be able to play it?
This was addressed a while ago. Only based on previous years iMacs and MBPs, a GT 750M (hopefully overclocked to insanity) with 2GB memory is expected on the high end rMBP.
I just found this on amazon - 1tb for $599. IMO, it's not worth it if I can't use both drives.
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Elect...543&sr=8-13&keywords=1tb+flash+storage+laptop
Please correct me if my assumption is wrong? Is this the same as the pcie card? Which is better?
Just to be clear, choosing the 2.3GHz (or 2.6GHz) option on the BASE MODEL does not add a 750M, correct?
So I want exactly this:
Base model without dGPU ($1999) + 2,3Ghz + 16GB Ram + 512GB flash = $2599
What do I do? Wait and pray? ... Do I call their support?
I just requested this exact configuration in the Apple Store app. It is absolutely available. But why would someone do that when they can have the same thing but also the dGPU and all that comes with that for exactly the same price?
No, it does not . That is a BIG myth!
It is not the same. What you linked is a SATA SSD. It would work for upgrading a HDD in a cMBP, it will not work in a Haswell rMBP. As of today, I cannot find anyone selling Haswell MacBook compatible PCIe SSDs.
PCIe is a faster interface than SATA, so the Haswell MacBooks should have faster storage than previous generations.
I am just here to say I was right about the announcement date, there being a dGPU option, and the dGPU model.
Everyone who said there'd only be an iris pro needs to start explaining themselves now.
Order placed for: 15" with dGPU. I was building the non dGPU version and it came out to be the exact same price and specs so I went with the dGPU, I also added a 2TB TC for good measure!
Says delivery Oct 28th which I hope updates to sooner since the stores will have these things this week.
Thank you kindly good sir.
And as someone who won't be playing any games, just programming (VMs and all that good stuff), is the base model (Iris Pro) at 2.3GHz & 16GB RAM ideal for me?
The maxed out 13'' is a waste of money...
Spend that money on the 15'' with dGPU and iris pro... you will thank yourself later... like, when you are gaming.
Same here! I think this will be a fantastic laptop. Probably last me a good 5 years, if not more.
I think I'm happy Apple went with the 5200+750M route instead of the 4600+750M route. Now I can enjoy Iris Pro's awesome OpenCL performance, but for games, I can use the 750M.
First thing I'm doing when I get my laptop is download Bioshock Infinite. Have been wanting to play that game for ages!
I know! Not even available for store pickup. But I guess that gives me time to backup my old 2008 Macbook Pro and get all my projects finished so I get a good solid weekend to spend with the rMBP.
The 750m model also comes with Iris Pro and graphics switching. Cool
Pretty solid laptop.
By the way, how does Crystalwell differ from Haswell?
