For me, the logic is simple. You'll notice the bigger SSD more in the present, but you might come to feel the lack of RAM in 3-4 years.

Interesting also that under Mavericks the integrated graphics can take up to 1GB of the RAM for use as VRAM, so if you have the full 16GB you'll not be constrained.

One disadvantage of integrated GPUs is that they borrow RAM from the system rather than having their own dedicated VRAM. In past versions of OS X, Apple's integrated GPU drivers took anywhere from 512MB to 768MB of system RAM and wired it down, reserving it for use by the integrated GPU only. Mavericks dynamically allocates VRAM for integrated GPUs, using only what it needs and putting RAM back into the system pool when it's no longer required.

This can result in significant RAM savings. A freshly booted Retina MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion will reserve a full 768MB of system RAM for the integrated GPU even when just sitting in the Finder. That same Mac running Mavericks will initially reserve less than 30MB of VRAM for the GPU, leaving over 738MB of additional RAM available for applications. Mavericks also allows graphics-intensive applications to allocate up to 1GB of VRAM for the integrated GPU.
Ars Technica Mavericks review

Coming from a Late 2007 MacBook, I went all out and ordered a 15"/2.6/512/750M rMBP. Have to wait until the end of the next week for it to come in, but I can still wait a bit longer.

I'm mostly happy I was patient and waited for the refresh. Literally jumped around with joy when I read they included the 750M. :p

Still processing here from a tuesday night order too. Didn't think I'd bother upgrading to Mavericks as it was about to get sent preinstalled to me anyway, but I have now!

should i buy it right now?

I am interested in buying a 13" Macbook Pro Retina with 2.6 i5, 16gb ram and 256 ssd.
This will be my first mac.

I would like to ask if i should wait till the black friday for the price drop or does the price for the BTO remains the same?

(i am already getting educational discount but my budget is very limited)

Ordered my base MBP 13" for pickup in store. I'll be the first customer at the door tomorrow, can't wait! =)

Iris pro is great at photoshop, will struggle a bit more with after effects depending on how crazy you get with it. So I'd recommend the 15 inch, in order to avoid the iris 5100 in the 13. Then it depends on how much storage and ram you want. If you're ok with 256/8 then the base 15 sounds like the right one for you, but if you want to go for 512/16 then you might as well get the high end one because as soon as you add the upgraded processor it's the exact same price, just with the 750m too.
Thanks for the solid tips :)

From what i've read here that will be more than enough.

Typing this from my new Crystalwell rMBP. Oh. My. God. It's amazing. Having never owned a MacBook Pro and slugging along with a 2011 MacBook Air...this...is...heaven. THE SCREEN! OMG the screen. MacRumours never looked so good! This was so worth the wait, people. So happy. Can't wait to test Diablo III out with the 750m soon!

Fully maxed out 15" here too and mine is also Processing. I ordered it about 5 minutes after the store came back online post-keynote.

I hope that Apple has got enough 4960HQ from Intel. So everyone with a 4960HQ has the same status I guess?

If you'd go to an Apple Store right now, what are the odds that you would be able to buy the new MBP 15" with dGPU?

close to 0 or are they on good stock?

How do you expect anyone in this thread to know haha?

Call up your local Apple Store and ask them.
