Please also tell us what display panel it has..samsung or LG ? You can do this by posting the results of this command run via Terminal:

ioreg -lw0 | grep "EDID" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

No command line tools installed at the moment, so the command doesn't work.

Does mmod in ColorSync still display the manufacturer correctly?

Any idea when 3rd party sellers are going to have these? My campus computer store guessed the first week in November, but that seems like a long time when they are already in stock at the Apple store.

Pardon me if this has been covered already, but when are we expected to see some reviews? Is the review embargo for upto one week from the launch?

Is this the 2.6GHz processor in the 15 inch? http://ark.intel.com/m/products/76088/Intel-Core-i7-4960HQ-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_80-GHz#@product/specifications

Maybe I'll check out york dale on the weekend. Will they have them on display?

Cool. Yeah it is a bit sad, but many of us will make a reappearance in the Broadwell thread soon enough.

Probably not me unless for some reason I decide to sell my new rMBP and can get good money for it. I'm graduating in May, so I don't expect to have a whole lot of money this time next year :p. My old MBP lasted 4 years, so I hope to have this one that longer or a little longer. You guys have fun though! I might pop in just to say hi lol.

I can think of two reasons that will show up that may make you want to sell your new rMBP:

1. The Broadwell rMBP :D
2. The Waiting for Broadwell rMBP Mega Thread.

I ordered the 13" 2.6/8/512 and set it to be delivered to a local Apple store. Its one of the default configurations but my local Apple Stores (Portland OR area) don't have them yet. I'm hoping it will show up there in the next day or two when they get their shipments, instead of the 30th, as the order specified.

My reasoning for this configuration is as follows:

I'm a developer, but my day job is Silverlight and Windows Development. I want to work on some iOS personal projects. I do have a 15" retina from last year which my job has assigned me, but I wanted my own machine for my personal projects and I have grown to LOVE that 15" retina! I chose the 13 because I like the form factor and weight better. I chose 8gb of ram because I doubt I'll ever have more than one VM at a time going, so I just don't think its worth another $200 to get 8 more gigs or ram (also, I ****ing hate how Apple gouges on RAM). I chose the 512 because I will also use the machine to travel and I want to have a lot of media on there so I don't have to pick and choose what to bring. Also, I do a lot of photography, and will have Lightroom on the machine, and a potentially large photo collection (my camera shoots 36mp images which are huge).

So, I think this machine hits all my needs. Also, I got a nice discount from work on it (~$100 off).

Looking forward to getting it!

Fun thread, especially now.

Hi there, you sound like someone who knows about this tech stuff, so I'd like to ask you if you think that machine you chose would also be right for me:
I use Lightroom heavily for large numbers of 24MP pictures, would be running win 7 (presumably under parallels) to use my beloved and much used Word 07 and photoshop (just sometimes). The rest would be mac os like browsing, mail, calendar etc.
I also would like to run it with a bigger hires screen at home.
Do you think the machine you chose would suffice for that too or do I need the quadcore 2.0 I only would get from the 15"?
I really like the formfactor of the smaller machine and the price difference would partly pay for a nice big screen to use at home.
Your answer is greatly apprecciated!

Nah, incremental upgrades are lost on me. I don't do any of the professional stuff that a lot of you do. It's like I may or may not get the iPhone 6. Most likely not if my 5 lasts a while.

Nice!

Will someone please test out the 13" rmbp's graphics a bit. I want to see how it fairs in normal situations.

If by normal you mean web browsing, it's awesome :D. Text is crisp, and scrolling is smooth.

Right there with ya -- still running an iPhone 4 while waiting for the 6, and jumped to Haswell from a 2008 Unibody MBP.

Yeah I'd still be using my mid-2009 if Apple had fixed it properly. On the other hand this was my last chance to get the education discount and my parents' help.

I will say that the keyboard takes some getting used to if you're coming from an older machine. My keys were shiny and slightly concave from use, and they were louder.

I got myself the top of the line 15' MacBook Pro (2.6ghz, 1TB).

For people who ordered their MacBooks... how long does it Apple to ship it once you order it? Anyone got shipping confirmation yet?

Thanks!

In case anyone is curious, I just got a new 15" rmbp. Disk tests were around 730 read/write for the esata SSD. This is the 512 gb model.

Can you screenshot your results? I think I and others would be very curious to see, especially for randoms/sequentials and different block sizes.

I will probably upgrade next year, but I might be in a country where Mac prices are super high. If I can buy it for not much more than I just paid for Haswell, then I definitely will.

I'm particularly interested to see what improvements IGZO will bring in regards to battery life.

There is. It's asking me to download command line tools because the command "strings" isn't available.

Hmm. Does this work ?

ioreg -lw0 | grep "EDID" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r

(I took the "strings" out). You should still see some output hopefully.

I got two new machines one that came from store and one online. One of them has the LG panel and the other has the Samsung panel. I used gift cards to pay for the the LG one and that's why I prefer to keep it since I already got rid of these cards. Do you think it is worth the hassle to keep the Samsung panel and return the one with LG panel or is the problem of retention already gone from the new models and this is not an issue any more?

I would like to ask if i should wait till the black friday for the price drop or does the price for the BTO remains the same?

(i am already getting educational discount but my budget is very limited)
Black Friday doesn't add anything to the EDU discount, so you'd be safe buying now.

Battery life improvements would be nice. I'm down to 89% after browsing the web over lunch.

Of course I shouldn't complain when my mid-2009's battery life is terrible
