Battery life improvements would be nice. I'm down to 89% after browsing the web over lunch.

Of course I shouldn't complain when my mid-2009's battery life is terrible :rolleyes:

I am so jealous. I am still waiting for mine to ship, but it'll definitely be here between Monday and Wednesday. You just transferred all your files over, right? I'm starting from a clean slate, so it's going to take me the better part of the first week to get everything set up how I want it. But that's going to be the fun part.

I'm definitely satisfied with 9 hours. And from what I'm hearing, the battery life actually exceeds those estimates much like they did on the Air. I hope the i7 has a minimal decrease in battery when running a light workload, but it shouldn't be a problem. And anything over 9 hours would be a bonus in that scenario.

I have a 13-hour flight next year, but 9 hours will be fine. And I plan on picking up an iPad next month.

Hmm. Does this work ?

ioreg -lw0 | grep "EDID" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r

(I took the "strings" out). You should still see some output hopefully.

I installed Xcode earlier and now "strings" works. Looks like I have a Samsung display. Is that the "best" one?

Does anyone know how to erase and install Mavericks? Anytime i try on mine it says it can't unmount.

EDIT: Never mind, magically sorted itself out

PS i got a Sammie screen and SSD.

I ended up using Migration Assistant. MS Office couldn't install properly when i dragged the icon from my Time Machine, and I didn't want to go searching for the hidden files in Library. I did delete my sleepimage just in case the issue from my old Mac transfers. No issues so far.

Yours will be here soon enough :) I feel a little bad that I was able to get mine so quickly. I expected to have to wait a little while. I was worried when Visa didn't like that my mom was ordering something to be picked up halfway across the country from her address lol. It was sorted quickly though.

That's the one without any image retention issues :)

This is what I got:

Unfortunately, it looks like this will only make sense with the strings command at the end, sometimes it will give understandable output but sometimes (like in your case) it doesn't....:(

So you'll have to run:

ioreg -lw0 | grep "EDID" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

I got myself the top of the line 15' MacBook Pro (2.6ghz, 1TB).

For people who ordered their MacBooks... how long does it Apple to ship it once you order it? Anyone got shipping confirmation yet?

Thanks!

Mine shipped within 12 hours and is scheduled to arrive today according to UPS. The original delivery estimate when I placed the order was Monday, then I got a notice it shipped and UPS said Friday, I checked today, and it says it's scheduled for early delivery today. Shipped directly from Shanghai. I ordered the 2.3 base model. Maybe the upgrades on yours will take slightly longer, but I would imagine they'd have some of every configuration on hand for immediate shipping.

This thread just got un-stickied. I suppose the ride is over! I was wondering if this thread was going to be closed or something.

No!!!!!!!!! It's going to be sad to see this one go. Hopefully they don't close it & let us continue to chat until our new rMBPs show up.

By the way, I don't think I posted, but I went with the 15" 2.6-16-512-750M.

I saw that. So sad!

Try just:

You should get something that looks like:

Copy everything between the <>'s, and go to a hex decoder site. Then you should get the model number: LSN for Samsung and LP for LG.

Unfortunately the string does not work on 2012 and early 2013 13 inch rMBP; your output confirms it does not work on the haswell version neither

Yeah the long and short codes don't seem to work. Why can't I find out what kind of display I have, Apple?!

Let's hope so. I could've had an Ivy Bridge model a month ago, but I waited because of the display issues.

I'm still surprised about Iris Pro + 750M. I know a lot of folks were thinking Iris Pro only, but I was really expecting HD4600+dGPU.. :eek:

Whew! Be thankful you didn't get stuck with one of those black and white ones...

An end of an era, folks!

:(

Awesome handle, nosetrick. Evocative, to say the least. :D

We're still scratching our heads, GS--and eagerly anticipating Anand's review to help make sense of it all.

My hunch is that the CPUs Apple wanted came with Iris Pro attached, and since there was no appreciable difference in power demands between the Pro and 4600, they just said WTF and gave us the 5200.

If early benchmarks are to be believed, neither the 5200 or the 750M have really made a noteworthy impact on performance in any case, so... much ado about nothing?

I still don't know what to order for Lightroom (heavy use, 24 MP raw files), parallels, win7 and a little photoshop.
I was thinking the 13" maxed out? Does it just suffice or is that already overkill? I like the form factor and would like to plug in a bigger screen.
Thoughts on that?
I want to order finally I'm so jealous and also want to buy one. But which one?! Please help!

The new 13" Retina MacBook Pro 2.6GHz is just awesome! I've received mine today. Here are some quick benchmarks:
* Geekbanch 3: 2857 / 5980 (Single-Core / Multi-Core Score)
* Blackmagic Disk Speed Test: > 730 MB/sec (read & write)
* Boot: 15,49 seconds
* My unboxing on Youtube

Installing Windows 7 64-bit with Boot Camp isn't possible because the keyboard and mouse aren't working. I've downloaded the "Apple support software" and used the Boot Camp Assistante to create the install USB drive. Adding a USB keyboard and mouse doesn't solve the problem. There is probably something wrong with the USB 3.0 support. The same problem occured when the MacBook Air was introduced in june 2013.

Thanks for the update. Mine is the exact same config, glad to see I'm not the only one with that config :)

I ordered it on the 22nd about 3 hours after the event with expedited shipping. We'll see if I receive the good news too.

I didn't do the expedited shipping so maybe you'll get your earlier. ;)

It would be a miracle if it didn't fair well.

A miracle? Wouldn't be more like a tragedy;)?

Probably not me unless for some reason I decide to sell my new rMBP and can get good money for it. I'm graduating in May, so I don't expect to have a whole lot of money this time next year :p. My old MBP lasted 4 years, so I hope to have this one that longer or a little longer. You guys have fun though! I might pop in just to say hi lol.

Well, I really hope Apple doesn't delay the Broadwell update past Christmas, because that's the perfect time to use a new device for the first time. So, of the main guys here (and women), who is going to stay for the Broadwell thread?

We can already count out KUguardgrl13.

I believe Apple wanted to switch to a iGPU-only lineup with Haswell, but the GT3e ("Iris Pro") turned out to fall short of the 650m in some applications (mainly games), so they decided to throw in the 750m to keep reviewers from complaining about a performance regression in what should be a hardware upgrade.

That’s the only explanation that makes sense to me. It could also be a possible explanation for the unexpected delay during the refresh.
