I bit the bullet and bought myself a Haswell rMBP today. I'd been at pains trying to justify the high price tag of a maxed out 15", so decided to go the other way instead. Purchased a 2.6/512/8 13" at 10% off. I'd have preferred 16GB for future-proofing, but at $460 price difference between a full-priced BTO from Apple, and this one, it just wasn't worth it.

So far so good. A big improvement on my 2007 MBP!

We pay a premium for BTO?

I also decided to go the 13" over the 15" this time around (with the 15" 2.3 model in Australia selling for $3199 it is getting quite pricey but would of been my choice in the 15" models).

However, I just went for the 2.4/16/256. To be honest, 128GB would still be too much storage for me, but I went with the 256 for the Samsung SSD (which on the 128 is apparently Sandisk).

Just got my screen replaced today. Suffered from serious backlight bleeding from day one (got it 14 days ago).

The store just ordered a new screen, and I got it replaced right in the store. Took about 30 minutes :)

And now I just have the most perfect screen! No bleed, no retention, no yellow tint. Just an awesome display!

Nice, I hope you enjoy it for many years to come.

Geez, I feel like I'm one of the few people who have managed to get a display without image retention/yellow tints/any other weird problems in the first go. This machine has been amazing so far. Every day, I'm amazed at the speed.

I just encoded an album from FLAC to Apple Lossless, a process that would take anywhere from 4-5 minutes on my old laptop, my new rMBP completed that in under 30 seconds!

Coming from a 2008 Macbook Pro, this is expected. Maybe I can go even longer than just 6 years with this one. :)

Lucky you!

I also went from a 2008 MacBook Unibody. The rMBP is screaming fast! Was pretty surprised when I encoded a 2-hour DVD to MP4 in 10 minutes. Would have taken over an hour on the old MacBook.

Who have them with 10% discount (other than Apple through Educational or similar programs)?

Gratz with your new MBP!

I'm in a similar situation. First I was sure about the 15" (but not sure about base or 2.3). Then I said if I'm going 15", I'm going for the 2.3GHz model. Now I'm not sure again and considering the 13" as an option again. Over 2400 euro for a laptop is a lot of money.

Anyway, my two options:

13" 2.6GHz/265GB/16GB/Iris - for €1700
15" 2.3GHz/512GB/16GB/Iris Pro/750M - for €2400

I'm having a really hard time deciding and I read everything I can here, but in the end nobody can help me decide. Hope I can so I can order/buy one this weekend.

Hi, so on Saturday I headed down the apple store to pick up a maxed out rmbp 13". I wanted the 512, but it was out of stock. After spending much time looking the 13" and 15" I walked out with a top spec 15" with nvidia 750m, 512gb, 16gb ram.

The apple store guy was more excited about it that it than I was.

Got home opened it copied my data over from the MBA. Powerful machine, more than I need in a laptop.

The 750m seemed to be on even when I was not doing anything intensive. Battery was draining a lot quicker than I was used to.

Anyway, I decided that the 13" was a much better fit for me, so Sunday I returned it for the now in stock 13" 512mb rmbp and had £644 refunded to my card.

Am very happy with the 13". Scaling the display give me all the desktop I need when I need it, but most of the time best for retina is fine. Have been playing portal 2 on it, and it's very playable.

It's width and length is actually less than the MBA it's replacing.

Reminds me of my all time favourite mac, the 12" PowerBook g4.

I'm thinking of going the other way. Went from a 2012 15" rMBP to a late 2013 13" 2.4/16/256 and thinking of returning it for a 15".

The only thing that is making me want to keep it at the moment is that it is completely perfect (apart from scrolling when browsing) and I did not want to end up with a 15“ with screen or case problems (which apparently lots of people are having issues with).

Yeah really. Can they archive it up to the point when the true wait was over? There are other places to discuss "which model should I get?" questions.

Might be a good idea. Or at least make it happen starting now. In the 1-2 weeks after the release, people were posting in here asking what to get and stuff. But that kind of chatter seems to have gone elsewhere now.

For those with the new 13" Haswell rMBP, which is 4mm lower, with protective cases, which one are you using? I wonder how does the Speck seethru case of my 2012 13"rMBP will fit to the new Haswell model I just purchased; have not seen yet Speck, Incase or Moshi cases re-design for the new Haswell model yet.

Hi, just received today my new 13" max out 2.8/16/1TB rMBP ($2400 shipped, bought in Ebay, sealed, 1 cycle on battery) and the colors of the screen are a lot more vivid than the ones of my 2012 2.9/8/768 13" rMBP (on the left is the 2012, on the right the 2013)

Could this be a result of factory settings or is the new screens a lot better? Both are shown at full brightness and using factory settings. Just in case, the screen on my 2012 is A013 while the one on the 2013 is A018

By the way, the Speck SeeThru Case from the 2012 worked well on the 2013 (thought the bottom side would be very loose, but it was not)

Well that's good. Good thing it wasn't the other way around.

Yeah, I've seen people on here say that the screens in the Haswell rMBPs are brighter. So it's not just you.
