this is only thread I can really take over the last 2 weeks -

this board is flooded with amateur "do I need this" or "am I going to get a faulty machine" or "how should I spend my parents money"

I BEG THE MODS to give us a sub thread for discussing performance and upgrades otherwise I waste a ton of time raking through these useless threads that may have one or two posts in them that are useful but sifting through them is painful since the topic has been discuss ad nauseum.

My order went in yesterday. 15"/2.6GHz/16GB/512GB.

Estimated delivery: "lucky" November 13th!

I must say, now that the tortured deliberations have finally come to an end, all that's left is pure excitement and anticipation... the GOOD STUFF!

Nice $2700 buzz. ;)

Take over this thread? Who do you think you are? This is a thread encompassing all aspects of the Haswell retina MacBook Pro, and people's troubles waiting, ordering, and using the rmbp. Create your own thread if you want, but no one cares if you believe that most of the posts are useless, because even though your specific wants have not been met, that doesn't make posts alltogether useless.

A computer that'll last you around half a decade or more.

I think you mis-read Domdog31's post.

Yeah I'm about to re-order probably tonight or tomorrow. To me it's worth the wait to get a configuration that I'll be satisfied with.

With all of the "which configuration should I get?" threads, it certainly makes sense for some to research and test out what will be best.

Personally I'm very happy with my new rMBP I'm barely making a dent in the processing power, and the RAM is more than enough. The only spec that isn't overkill really is the 256gb SSD. I'm starting to realize the difference from the 500gb drive I had that was slightly less than half full haha. But the MBA and the base rMBP weren't for me.

256GB is plenty. Especially with cloud storage these days. But I agree, the 4GB/128GB base rMBP isn't enough for anybody.

Your clearly not understanding, or have not clicked outside this thread on the MBP forum. I have no "wants" other than to have a organized forum and not chaos with duplicate threads and no mod help to eliminate dozens of duplicate posts. You'll see what I mean when you actually need to find something in this mess...thanks for the anti-rant post though.

I think you mis-read Domdog31's post.

he sure did...

So you just want the Moderators to create a sub-forum where you can discuss the performance of rmbps. Finding something can be the purpose of forums, but another is to have interesting conversations and discussions.

Sort of, I have no issue with interesting discussions. But do you find 5-6 threads discussing the same exact thing? I feel posting a new topic is the last resort if it hasn't been discussed before, and 99.99% of the time it has.

+1. I'll spend a couple weeks reading a forum, looking for posts that answer my questions, getting to know the feel of the place before I ask a question, and 9 times out of 10 I'll post in an existing thread rather than create a new topic.

But you have to realize that people like us are in the minority. For whatever reason/reasons, a lot of people only think about immediate gratification. It's not worth their time to search and read the existing threads. They want someone else to do the work for them and give them the answer. So they post a new topic, with minimal information, and bump it ever 15 minutes until someone tells them the answer they want.

In a huge public forum like this one, it's hard to prevent that from happening. You can either have very strict & time consuming moderation where all questions about a specific subject (should I get X or Y?!?!?!!!one!!!) are merged into a single thread; or you prevent new members from posting new topics, etc.

Until society stops churning out people with no patience or the interest/ability to do some research on their own, we're going to be stuck wading through dozens of the same posts asking for immediate advise about the same subjects, over and over again...

Back on topic...

I just placed my order! 13" Haswell RMBP/2.8 i7/16 GB RAM/512 GB SSD.

All the logic in the world was telling me that the base 2.6/8/512 model would have been fine. I couldn't do it. I'm not the type of person who would sell this laptop in 2 years just to get a new one that's X% better. I'd rather have it for 4-5 years or more if I can. I know that in the back of my mind I would be worrying that I limited myself with the 8 GB of RAM. I've never regretted maxing out the RAM in any system I've purchased or built. And since it's a BTO option for the RAM, I got the i7 for that extra few % of performance to help it last.

I know both those upgrades are a gamble. There's a chance that even with them the computer won't meet my needs in a few years. I'll deal with that if that time comes.

My last Mac purchase was a 2006 MacBook Black 2.0 Core Duo/512MB RAM/80 GB HD. I immediately upgraded it to 2 GB of RAM, and if it weren't for HD and screen problems in the last year, I could possibly still be using it today. So I got a good 6 years out of that machine, but there's no way I could have without the maximum amount of RAM. I know that with Mavericks' better RAM management, 8 GB should last, but I just couldn't "risk" ordering with 8 and finding out in a couple years it was a bad choice.

Congrats! What are you going to use it for?

Cheers!

Music production, primarily, with some photo editing, occasional video editing and gaming. I certainly could have made do with the base model or a 2012 refurb, but my Apple Store buddy hooked me up with the 15% off deal so I figured, in the timeless words of David Lee Roth, "might as well jump!" :D

(I do use a lot of fairly resource-intensive virtual instruments and audio plugins, so I expect I'll use this computer to its max potential at some point in the next year or two...)

well said and congrats!

I really don't see what people are expecting to find in a thread like this at this point. The waiting for the Haswell rMBP is over.

Hey guys, after months of lurking this thread, I thought its time to stop sitting out and contribute to this discussion that now seems to be dying out now that the new macs have been released. It seems like from what I've read online that people are for the most part happy with their new Macbook pros. I am in the market at ordering one soon but unsure as of a few things, such as configuration etc. for example, I've seen some people talking about getting the Samsung screen with their laptop, over a LG screen? Can someone shed some light on what that is about? Thanks!

What did you guys:

I bought the base model 15" price € 1885 ... education.

Now with the i can the Top model 15" University by € 2,383.

Gives a difference of € 500 for the top, I will return a cover (40 €), now by more 460 € .... "double" of Ram .... "double" the Disco, CPU and more ....dedicated graphics.

Makes you think .... maybe I'll risk and change the machine, so being too much for me.

Give me strength that is the largest investment to make.

(sorry my english)
