So, the wait continues. Fall updates are looking more and more likely.

No, have been waiting to upgrade my laptop for that long. Actually the last year has been painful, prior to that I did some hardware upgrading to make it run better.
But yes, Haswell is sort of a turning point for laptops.

I have never kept track of Apple releasing updates around earnings calls. But certainly seems like Apple would wait until after the earnings call to update the rMPB's, right? Or is this just more wishful thinking?

From memory, Lion was released the day after the 2011 earnings, Mountain Lion after the 2012 earnings and the Macbook Air after the 2011. Plus, the 23rd is about a month from the benchmark leak on the 18th of June, and lines up with Kuo's predictions. Maybe… (fingers crossed)

Considering it's only 6am PST, there's always a chance Apple will update the store with rMBPs in the next couple hours. :)

(Totally joking... Just pulling at straws now because I really was eager for Haswell)

Thanks for the info :) I guess the next real possibility is the fourth or fifth week of July. Fingers crossed here too!

I decided to purchase a Feb rMBP...at least I can stop waiting and sell it as necessary, the wait was ridiculous...and the speculation around the release - from so many who got it wrong (like the blogs) was a bit annoying...still messes me up with a full solution (Cinema display docking with keyboard and mouse) but I can wait for that as it seems some new models are on the horizon, but at least I have a machine I can do some necessary work I'd been putting off for way too long.

Bah.
Gotta stop following this thread.
Just makes me think about when the release will be.
And if its October that's 100~days from now :S

Having no laptop what so ever to use is getting seriously annoying.
Sold my laptop 2 weeks before WWDC. :/

If i had waited i would have got so much less for it since Haswell was released after and a lot of new computers with better battery and such have come since then.
So it was the right choice from a financial point of view. But now it starts to get annoying :S

My Windows laptop went bust a few weeks back, so I hear you. I just need a Mac like now. And with the Back to School sale starting, I'm seriously tempted to give in like others.

Its like everyone is getting pony's with fake horns stuck to their heads. But you know that if you wait a few months you can get a real unicorn.
So either you get stuck with a fake unicorn or you wait.
You know it sucks to wait. But at least your not riding around on a lame pony that all are gonna realize are is just a pony, by the time the unicorns are out.

I guess there is some good news. You don't have to be a student to get the discount and gift card. So anyone can order and get the gift card so that's good, right?

But, are products purchased from the education store the exact same as products purchased from the regular Apple Online Store?

As for me, I am not a student but I will likely just take advantage of the discount and just buy one now, and sell it when the Haswell models come out. Because it seems like the new ones are coming out this Fall alongside of OS X Mavericks, that still gives me 2-4 months to play with it then trade up for the Haswell models.

Yup, they are the same. And anyone can take advantage of the discount/gift card. I've been thinking about doing the same thing, did you have a configuration in mind?

I figure it's going to be late-September/early-October before we actually see the Haswell rMBP.

The high-end 15 inch Retina MacBook Pro for $2599 instead of $2799.

What's to stop me from buying an Ivy Bridge rMBP now, returning it within the 30 days, then using the $100 gift card towards the purchase of a Haswell rMBP when it finally arrives?

The fact that it's something you would be unable to do. Aside from the fact that the return window is 14 days, you are only able to use the gift card towards App Store purchases. Then they also take away the gift card from you if you were to return said Mac.

And we would be extremely lucky if the Haswell rMBP came out in July, which doesn't look like it is going to happen.

You can't purchase hardware with the gift card it's for the iTunes Store, iBooks or App Store.

You won't get to keep the gift card if you return the product, obviously.

Also the gift card only works for digital products.
