I guess you're right. We'll just have to wait and see what Apple ends up doing. I hope Apple ends up putting the 5200 anyways + 750/760M. :p

Prediction: They might put Iris Pro in the base 15'' rMBP model, and use a discrete GPU in the high end. Means you have to pay more to get a dGPU than last year. Sounds exactly like something Apple would do. And of course, still only 1 GB of VRAM in there, regardless.

a) They could be waiting for better manufacturing for screens. (Quality, not IGZO)
b) Waiting for Thunderbolt 2 (unlikely)
c) Revised the design (unlikely) or slightly redesigned the current (likely for 13")
d) BTS just launched, they want to get rid of existing stock (likely)
e) They're still manufacturing and stock piling stock (likely)
f) Waiting for IGZO (manufacturing/supply/stockpiling)(unlikely > October)
g) Waiting for Mavericks (likely > October)

All because they have the processors, doesn't mean they won't delay them. Like I've said in this thread so many times, expect them in late-July/August. If not, then maybe October (It could happen). I'm making an assumption that we'll see something closer (around, not specifically on the date) to the Q3 Profit announcement.

Also banking on a release between investor call and mid-August. I really doubt we'll see IGZO because it's expensive and unnecessary and using TB2 will mean they'd have to start production in October (late 2013, whatever Intel means by that), so the refresh would be pushed back too far. I think they'll just get rid of some Ivy MBP stock with BTS and push out the release, as display/CPU supply issues should be cleared by now.

I know this is all speculation, but is the general consensus that people think the regular MBP will be phased out as Apple moves to Retina models?

I'm thinking of upgrading my laptop, but want to be able to do some upgrades myself and I know the retina is not that friendly when it comes to this. Also, as my needs aren't that demanding, I don't really need a retina.

I've been holding out because of the Haswell chip and the better battery life it will offer. But if the MBP is going away, should I upgrade now?

I actually think TB2 is highly likely and is one reason for a holdup. Production would likely start in late July or September, with a release in October.

My guess is they want the entire pro line on Thunderbolt 2.

That is possible, but I think if Apple had everything else ready for an update, they'd do one now and add Thunderbolt 2 early next year. Production for TB2 starts in late 2013, in time for the Mac Pro, but they ramp up production in 2014, and they sell a lot more Macbook Pros than Mac Pros

Also, given the model numbers of the MBPs at the moment (9,x for cMBPs and 10,x for rMBPs), it's quite likely that they won't get Haswell processors - Apple even got rid of the higher end 15" in February.

Well if they don't update with Haswell and actually do discontinue the cMBP you will always have the option of getting one know doubt from the refurb store with some fab discounts while they get rid of the last stock of them

This has got to be the dumbest post I've ever read.... so you're saying if it's not this month, it'll be next month, and if not that month, the one after? No ****.

I pulled the trigger on a 15" rmbp. 8-9 hr battery life with mavericks sounds good enough to me.

Because you read it wrong.

The point of the post was to make it clear that if it doesn't hit this month or next, it won't hit till October because Apple will focus on the iPhone and cheaper iPhone in September. The cheaper iPhone being a new product, they would want to focus a lot of attention on that product alone, whilst still pushing the 5S.

I'd even say August seems unlikely, because they'd have trouble shipping systems to students in time for the new school year in America and Europe. I don't think Apple has released new laptops in August for a long, long time.

I think you have it backward.

Memory bandwidth is one of the main bottlenecks for Iris that Iris Pro "somewhat" remedies by integrating 128MB directly onto the CPU die.

But Iris Pro's advantage in computing performance over the 650M is because nVidia hasn't been up to snuff with software support for OpenCL. ALL of nVidia's GPUs (not just the 650M) suffer from bad OpenCL performance compared to competitors. This shouldn't matter much because not a lot of applications support OpenCL yet.

Move on to OpenGL (which is used in a lot of professional applications, like AutoCAD, Maya, Photoshop, etc...), and it's a different story. 650M completely demolishes Iris Pro in both performance and compatibility.

It doesn't take gaming to realize the performance benefits of a dedicated GPU in the rMBP.

A bit off topic, but Autodesk hasn't used OpenGL in AutoCAD since 2010 (2009 had it). It pisses me off that the OS X version of AutoCAD also lacks a lot of features that the PC version has (like detailed rendering settings and other stuff).

I can't remember the last time Apple has released updates in August. The company pretty much shuts down that month to give its employees a break. Of course they will be working non-stop on iOS 7 but that's only a small part of the company.

Is there any better sales and marketing strategy than to release the new rMBPs at the same time as JOBS movie on Mid-August? :D

i want to give Apple 2000 euro and they don't want to...ffs
what do you think guys with 2000 euro(2350 $ estimated) can i buy the 15" next retina?

There was an iMac/MBA update in late July 2010, though you're right about August. Either July or October seem likely options.

Regarding Thunderbolt, Intel claims "initial production before end 2013." I have a hard time reading that as "the best-selling notebook in the US will have it in October." I really think the Mac Pro will be the first to have it. Also, I'm fairly sure current rMBPs can power 4k displays, so it shouldn't be too big of a deal anyway.

I know what Tim Cook said about the second half of this year and there being an army of new products so maybe this August will be different than past years. Usually Apple hibernates in August.

Unfortunately the current rMBP's can't drive 4K displays. The Apple web site says this about what the 15" rMBP supports: "2560 by 1600 pixels on up to two external displays". It's my understanding that 4K displays have 4K (or almost) pixels in horizontal resolution.

How many "builds" were pushed out for ML before its released? Im assuming if they did release the rMBP ahead of OS X, it would be a free upgrade for all that decide to purchase the new rMBP. Im surprised OS X was not able to make a summer debut like the 2 previous versions.

Maybe the rumor of it being delayed because they pushed developers over to iOS were true. It'll most likely be a free upgrade, whilst the machine would ship with 10.8.5.

This could be true! Im sure they are working overtime on both iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks.

The announced the first aluminum iMacs and the current aluminum wired/wireless keyboards at a keynote in August 2007:

Tim Cook has already brought changes to Apple's traditions and lobby... So I would say, don't discard completely August...
