So 12497 was the Geekbench score of the new rMBP with Haswell? I run my i7-3820QM 2.7/768/16 rMBP on 32 bit (free demo mode) and got 11849; that doesnt seems to be that great of a jump In score.

It cracks me up when people see the geekbench score as the be all end all benchmark. It's only a CPU benchmark and a bad one at that.

I thing that this comparison is wrong...

Are you convincing yourself that you don't need the new rMBP ?

Look again. It scores a little better than your 2.7GHz, but it only has a 2.4 GHz. Furthermore, it uses way less power than yours. It's perfectly in line with Apple's focus on performance per watt.

I'm clear the results were on a 2.4GHZ machine and that the score results does not show all the advantages of the new Haswell based rMBP. For people holding off to buy a new high performance laptop or for those who want to have the greatest and latest, the new rMBP may be the way to go. However, for others like me, in order to justify myself to buy another $3k plus machine after less than 1 year, the improvements of the new Haswell based rMBP would have to be a lot better than that. Most likely would upgrade a year after the new rMBP is launch (factory refurbished) if it includes the new thunderbolt 2 and other upgrades that justify the new investment

Okay. I've got a plan.

From the looks of things, we have two possible times that the Haswell rMBPs could be released: around Apple's Q3 Earnings report on July 23 and the week following, or in October. August is traditionally when Apple employees get a break, and September is iPod/not Mac month, so those are out.

I'm starting school in August, and I can't afford to go halfway through the semester without my own laptop. Therefore, if the new rMBPs aren't announced/released in July, I'll buy a current model rMBP, which is already an excellent machine and will definitely suit my needs for the next 3+ years.

Later on, if Haswell turns out to be revolutionary rather than just a good improvement on the current machines, I can always sell the older MacBook Pro and buy the new one.

Sound alright?

Sounds good. I am still a firm believer that Apple will release these before September. If you have to buy the current generation you will still be more than pleased in performance.

Makes perfect sense to me. If you end up following that route and Haswell is not released before August would suggest you look for refurbished rMBP (Same as new warranty at substantial lower price), so that you can minimize your investment; that way when you sell it later to get the Haswell your loss will not be so significant versus the full price of a brand new unit.

You the man with the plan!

This pretty much sums up realistic expectations. I'll start watching the Apple online store on July 24th all the way through the end of the month. If August 1st arrives with nothing new, it's going to be at least a two month longer wait.
