If the new rMBP will only use USB-C and no dongle is included, you wouldn't be able to use your iPhone with your Macbook without buying a dongle to connect, which in my mind is pretty weird. I hope Apple knows that and either includes a dongle or a normal usb port. I have a Nexus 6P with USB-C so I could connect them fine, but still weird for the iPhone users.
That's already the case with the rMB.

Not to mention that Apple is trying to get us away from plugging in our phones all together (but failing pretty miserably with the iOS 10 update bricking devices). I still plug mine in for the initial sync of my photo library, but after that I never plug in until it's time for a new phone. I'd of signed up to iCloud Photo Library to even remove that one time plug-in, but not at the prices iCloud storage is asking.

Interesting, but not related with the next MBP.
No mobile Nvidia GPU is suited for them.
But I'm very curious to see if and what that will mean...

Is it bad that this is the only MacRumors thread I'm 'watching'?

Of course not.
I'm participating just this thread, actually. And the "Kaby Lake thread" just to take fun of those desperate souls.

MacBook DonglePro.

- hdmi dongle
- ethernet dongle
- dongle or adapter for charging every single external HD, camera, bluetooth headphones, etc.

In exchange, we'll get:

- a "touchbar"
- buggy Skylake, which is already old

The iPhone 7 is the first iPhone I've ever returned, and I'll be watching Google's Pixel announcement closely. And now, I'm starting to feel the same way about replacing my MBP...it may not be a Mac next time.

I Never, Never backup to the cloud. I keep all my iOS devices backups local on my MBP.

I bet that they will call it the most ridiculous name ever. Something in the lines of "iColor" display. "The best display we have ever made!, 300% brighter 800% more color!"

Here we are at the 1024th page. No macbooks. :)

I honestly don't think OLED is that great. From what I've seen of using Samsung Galaxy devices in stores for a brief time, it just seems that the main claim to fame of OLED is overly-saturated colors. It gave me a headache looking at those cartoonishly bright colors, particularly the reds that look almost pinkish. I care more about color accuracy as someone who enjoys taking and editing photos. Also, seeing as how the iPad, iMac, and iPhone were all updated with the P3 display, I think the chances are almost nil that the MBP is going to "skip" that update and go straight to OLED. That would somehow mean the the MBP has the "flagship" display and since when has the MBP been "flagship" anyting?

Why would there even be 4 usb type c ports if you still need dongles anyway. Just 1 port and 1 multiport dongle would be better than 4 ports and 4 separate dongles right?

gtx 1050 in October...
I really doubt Apple would decide to change GPU manufacturers a month before the expected release date.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if the 2016 rMBPs have NVIDIA chips, but right now, I just want one already.

New step of waiting-new-macbooks madness: I just created a list on Amazon and I'm currently choosing dongles and covers and stuff for my next MBP, hoping it'll be released within next black friday, despite the fact that probably is a useless work 'cause it'll probably be redesigned.

Please, Apple. PLEASE!

I'll rephrase: on the verge of being superseded by a newer line of processors. Okay?

We can maybe agree for the 13", but not at all for the 15".
Kaby Lake CPUs for the 15" won't supersede Skylake, as there is no trace of them in the next future.
Skylake i7-6970HQ is the only suitable CPU for the 15" in the next future. And there is still no computer using it.
It is not old. It will be also the last more powerful 4 core iGPU for long time.

...sigh.
We don't have the slightly rumor suggesting this.
There is still no TDP available for GTX 1050M, so we don't even know if it will be suited.
Plus, IIRC, there is no trace of drivers about new Nvidia GPUs.
How could it be?!

I don't say that there will be nvidia in next macbook but definitely it could be gtx 1050 and users would benefit from this as pascal destroys amd polaris in terms performance/power consumption.

How "it could be" when there is still no trace of TDP?
Plus, looks like mobile Pascal GPUs are like desktop counterparts. Almost the same power consumption.
1050M is rumored (just rumored) to have <75W.
Apple have always used dGPU inferior 60W.
Again, how could it be?!

Then, Pascal destroys Polaris.
Bad luck is, there is no appropriate counterparts for mobile GPU.
We'll see what performance will it have mobile Polaris.
I personally trust in the RX480M.

Faster than 960m, 35 watts. That's impressible perf/watt. I would really like to wait for some benchmarks before the general nvidia/amd sucks/is the greatest bitching starts. Facts make everything so much more interesting.

About the Nvidia job offerings: It could be just about drivers. Maybe Nvidia wants to improve in OS X drivers to get into the eGPU market. An external GTX 1080 would be quite a nice fit for our future MBPs.

What I realise it will require a sea of dongles to achive I can do today, if all ports are USB C...

Q-6
My laptop rarely has any cables plugged as I carry it around. A charger and maybe headphones if I use it for too long or have other people around.

Once I get to the desk though, I start plugging stuff in right away. The monitor claims the HDMI port, the mouse, wacom tablet and often the lightpad demand a USB port each. So does occasional portable drive. And a keypad. And sometimes iPod/iPhone/iPad for syncing and charging. I would also like to add wired Internet connection, an audio interface and a proper card reader sometime soon.

Even if this new machine had enough ports for all of that (and current gen does not), plugging and unplugging everything all of the time would be too much hassle. So docking is a way to go, I guess. And that means ports on the machine itself do not matter that much. I most likely would be fine with just 2 USB-C, a headphone jack and one multiport adapter somewhere in my bag 'just in case'.

You know very little about gpus :) You get 60w form 75w card by just simple downlclocking. Mobile polaris is on the same process (14nm by globalfoundries, worse than 16nm form tsmc) and with they same architecture so your trust is just a fantasy of a fanboy ;)

A Mac Pro with twin 1080-class workstation GPUs... One can dream
