I personally trust in the RX480M.

I don't.

Tbh nothing else came out of that RX480M rumours. Also, 35W and 'close to 960M' performance? That's very low for a RX480M... If the GTX 1060 mobile is 90% a desktop one, the RX480M should be around the same compared to a RX 480.

What I think will come out, is a "specially designed graphics chip by AMD" made 'custom' for Apple. Like the Surface Book for example, that has a special chip made by Nvidia for it (that ended up being based on, but not the same, as the GT 940M).

AMD has made SoC's for the PS4 and Xbox One, and we know Apple has contracts too. I look at the PS4 Pro's TDP and GPU, and I believe that the same GPU will end up being the "custom chip" for the 15'' Macs. That would give us arround a desktop GTX 970 level of performance (around the same as a RX 470/480...).

Let's wait and see, I'm only speaking theoreticaly, there is zero evidence/rumors backing this up, but I do hope and believe this will be the case.

and what's that supposed to mean? you're talking ad-language.

color accuracy is not subjective, but a measurable entity. in this LCD are still superior.
i still don't see any big oled display for cheap, it may work well for smaller sizes, but not yet for bigger screens (as we're talking laptops here).

is there any competitor selling an oled display laptop yet?

Hahaha ad language. I'm sure you know how LCDs are not real LEDs, therefore the brightness is lower, and yes you can discern between the two.

So when I said a "true LED viewing experience", it's the truth, not ad-language. LCD has been a lesser and duller experience because it's LED Backlit, in comparison to OLED, which is you looking at the LEDs and not the LCD crystals, thus more brighter accurate images. The organic material allows for dark areas to remain "off" thus higher contrast than LCD. OLED would allow for better viewing experiences and better production of video.i

Though I'm not fully onboard with OLED, as burnin is still a issue, and Lenovo recently released an OLED display laptop, so we'll see that fares.

Honestly I would prefer microLED over OLED, but who knows when will that mature by.

I love OLED and will not buy a phone if it doens't use that technology.

That being said I know it doesn't last as long as regular LCD's and it's benefits would be diminguished on a laptop because you have all the screen being used by something (menu bars, icons, etc... phones can have more parts staying black).

So I'd rather have a more reliable LCD on a laptop, that had P3 color gamut and HDR capabilities, than having an OLED one that didn't have those things.

OLED has many benefits but I don't think we will see a MacBook with OLED (as the main screen) for a while. Maybe the next redesign. The main things holding back OLED is:

1. The OLED manufacturing process is still not nearly as efficient as LCD and cost more. This is why LG is the only large TV company making OLEDs.

2. Typically, OLEDs have a lower max brightness than LCDs. This would definitely be an issue with a laptop since the screen needs to be useable in a variety of environments. The brightest consumer OLED display that I've seen is on the Apple Watch Series 2 (1000 nits) however, that is a very small screen and it would be much more difficult to get the same results on a 13" or 15" screen.

3. OLED's have a shorter lifespan than LCDs and are more susceptible to image retention.

On the bright side, LCD technology has improved over the years to give fantastic results. Through the use of quantum dots, we can now get P3 color gamut, brighter displays, more efficiency and the ability to show HDR. I have yet to see an HDR compatible laptop so if Apple can include that in the new Pro's we may have one of the best screens in the industry.

BTW: Has anyone else noticed how this thread seems to repeat itself? I swear we had a couple pages of OLED discussion back in the 500-800 page range. It's like we are stuck in a time loop until Apple finally reveals this thing.

You know very little about gpus :) You get 60w form 75w card by just simple downlclocking. Mobile polaris is on the same process (14nm by globalfoundries, worse than 16nm form tsmc) and with they same architecture so your trust is just a fantasy of a fanboy ;)

Computer-Guy-Facepalm.jpg

....sigh
I'm not a fanboy.
I honestly don't care at all which brand Apple decide to use, as long as it's good for us customers.
I'm just trying to be realistic about what could happen with the next MBP.
Do we have the slightly tiny sign of Apple using a Nvidia GPU (which by the way is still too powerful for MBP necessity, and downclocked would become useless?)?
No.
More probably it will be more as KirekkusuPT say:
a "specially designed graphics chip by AMD" made 'custom' for Apple.

Still, as no one of us has the smallest idea of which GPU Apple will choose, I'm just hoping for that, by rumors, that seems better.
It seems to me, dear @snc, that you are a huge Nvidia fanboy, always praising Nvidia results and despising AMD.
I'm actually fine with that.
I don't care.
But please, again, if we want to discuss something, let's discuss at least about something we have a minimum of informations about. Let's do it with logic. Like this damn old eternal "waiting Kaby Lake" loop.
I'm becoming tired of all this...

*RUMOR*

AMD’s Zen Processor Might Power Next-Generation Apple MacBook Pro – Custom SOC Design With HBM2 Memory System
http://wccftech.com/apple-macbook-pro-amd-zen-soc/

TL;DR:

Due to Intel's stagnation and lack of future Iris Pro iGPUs, Apple might be working with AMD on a Zen Custom APU SoC. Mind you there were whispers about this last year, well before Intel's roadmap was known.

Personally, I wouldn't have believed this if it weren't for Intel's decision to halt Iris Pro development. Now, this rumor (personally) goes from "no way in hell" to very plausible. You know what they say, where there's smoke, there's fire.

If Apple really is going to use the AMD's Zen processors, does that mean we are not going to see MBP's next month?

Let's start with predictions for the upcoming event. Here are mine:

Apple TV
MacBook Pro
iMac or Mac Pro
Air pods
Breast cancer awareness watch bands
OneRepublic performance

Bookmark me!
I bet my house with you that what comes in october will be:mac mini/macbook pro redesign, imac and mac pro upgrades,5k display with gpu and TB3 for Macbook Air

Ok, you scared me for a moment.
Lol, I know. Everyone seems to be on edge when they shouldn't be. If both Ming and Gurman agree on the same thing then you can rest assured that what they say is going to happen with 100% certainty. March 2017 release date crap that you see on here is derived from fear. rMBP release is next month 100%, no questions asked. This is coming from a poster that has killed and "pooped" parties on here before, just ask the old timers ;).

Zen from Amd..but Thunderbolt 3 isn't strictly related to Intel?Isn'it?What i didn't understand is if TB3 is gonna happen and if its gonna happen with Skylake or just with Kaby Lake? For example Skylake plus Nvidia plus Tb3 is possible?

I understand it's very likely to happen when both Ming and Gurman agree on the same thing. But it still scares me when people post articles with (at first sight) contradictory information. You should be flattered I value your information the same as Ming's and Gurman's ;);)

I'm just worried that I won't get one for release day. My 2012 rMBP didn't arrive till almost a month after I ordered. Longest wait I've ever had to endure for any Apple product I've purchased.

You are waiting because the current lineup is pathetic. Processors are old and for 2500€ you get 256ssd?!

Actually it was 2600 with 512SSD. ;)

Since I was basically waiting for a 10% improvement in regards to my main task (AU/VST plug-ins) and I have several on site recording gigs coming up I made the jump. Will continue to follow cause I like this thread. But I will not be getting a (suspected) USB C based MBP for the next two years.

The demand will be so high and supply so limited that the thing will definitely slip, with delivery dates of 3 months or so. Like it has happened to other recently launched Apple products. Personally, I'm certain I won't get mine till December or something. I'm just not willing stay up and pre-order, add to that the stress/anxiety, and sure as hell I'm not standing in line. Now that I think about it, I'll probably pay someone to pre-order one for me, lol. On another note, I'm still thinking about the color. Not sure if silver or gold for me. :/

One question. Maybe people who experienced the previous releases can help me. Will they just announce the MBP next month or also release them? And will there be a release delay to Europe (The Netherlands)? What is most likely to happen? I'm planning the perfect date to sell my current Macbook.

Probably announce them and start shipping like a week or two later

Yep, wondering the same thing.
I hope that we get it here in Bulgaria before the holidays.

*iPhones start shipping next Monday here... Take that.

Yes, buggy. https://www.thurrott.com/hardware/78118/kaby-lake-intels-apology-skylake-premium

I'll rephrase: on the verge of being superseded by a newer line of processors.

Edit: Oops, the Thurott article is behind a paywall. But you can just Google it.

Yes it's buggy, this probably why Apple is working to get all of the Intel Bugs fixed, and to get TB3 Bugs working. They are also probably debating why don't we just do Kaby Lake?

And that's when they say to themselves, because DELL has an XPS version out with Skylaye & TB3, and there are like 1000+ post on this macrumors site of guys clamoring and bitching about a new MacBook Pro.

And they have been saying "if they don't get "Some Word" by October 14-17, they're gonna kill us, or even worse jump ship. So our deadline is Mid-October, let's go boys!"

I just can't believe after checking that DELL has an XPS with TB3, don't know how well it works but interesting

If the Macbook launched with a Skylake processor earlier in the year, have there been a lot of firmware updates to address discovery of ongoing problems?
