If Apple wanted to impress us they could have a very long keynote:

Mac Mini
Mac Pro
21" iMac
Kaby Lake MBA
Skylake MBPs
New ultra-expensive keyboard to bring Touch Bar support to desktops

But even if only laptops are ready, Apple has a gift of extending keynotes when they want/need to--just have a bunch of third parties demo stuff. With the new touchbar it would be easy--just have Adobe come on stage and demo their touchbar support with Photoshop.

That said, they could easily not hold a keynote and just hold something for the media. Apparently Apple told John Gruber last year that they wanted to move away from October events, but that was probably before these Intel delays...
If they aren't going to do a keynote, that will be like "here, take your new Mac and stop whining while we go back making revolutionary new Apple Watch bands" :(.

who says we are even getting a event for the new macbook pro and not just a press release?
would they really do just a press release for a redesign? i mean, at this point we all expect a redesign right? redesigns are like new iphone lines (the 6 after the 5s, the 5 after the 4s, etc), only less popular. theyre significant. they would be wise to have an event when they choose to introduce them.

something would get a press release if it doesnt matter as much. I remember buying an ipad 3 a few months after it came out, and then a few months after that, we got the ipad 4 through a press release. essentially the only difference was the lightning charging port. that is a press release-worthy product. another example could be the 2016 macbook, which compared to the 2015 macbook was hardly considered an upgrade.

if the rumors are right and its getting a redesign, i can almost guarantee that we will have an event whenever apple deems us worthy of buying it, and spares us from having to buy outdated hardware.

gold and rose gold iMac haha.
maybe mac mini too.

The whole mac lineup could be gold by the end of this year. except mac pro

But I want a rose gold Mac Pro!

In all seriousness though I don't know if iMac/Mac Mini sales are enough to make it reasonable to produce different colored units.

Since when did they start releasing iPhones in March. Not only did the iPhone not get released, but there wasn't so much as a blurb about it. The event was literally about nothing but bands and the 9.7" iPad pro. If they can have an event for that, they most certainly can have an event for the Macs (almost all of which haven't been updated in over a year).

Erm, did you miss this bit?

So since everyone has been waiting forever to get these, and a redesign potentially means some new 3475 step manufacturing process that they haven't optimized - do we expect these to have constrained availability for a couple months at launch?

So, I wrote "lol" ( quotation marks included) a few dozen - or hundreds, who knows- pages ago.

Yeah, an ironical "lol".
I'm so ****ing pissed a 2000$ machine, bought 3 months ago, is choking on web browsing. Not to mention if I start dev servers & other VMs.

I work with that crap. This is not the iPhone. This is not the MacBook, or the MacBook Air.
It's the ****ing MacBook *PRO*.
You're supposed to work with this. No one give a **** about the hype. No one gives a **** about a ****ing gimmick for an OLED bar. No one gives a **** about whatever goddamn overhyped presentation you're going to do for an overpriced product.

We want the power, the comfort of the OS, the latest tech (TB3 for some, latest proc / memory type for others). Battery and size upgrades are fine, if you do better it's a bonus, but your core users want POWER and TECH. And we want a DATE -or estimates.
We work with this ****, goddammit. This is so unprofessional, so handicapping from you Apple. What a shame.

Folks, please resume to the jokes and other far-fetched hypothesis, I just needed to vent after watching several gigs of swap memory being used on my 3 months old "pro" machine...

No. Usually the vastly smaller demand (compared to iPhones) makes any manufacturing difficulties not a major issue. That said the rMB had some issues:

You have a 15 inch quad core? How does web browsing slow that down?

The retina MB was crazy laggy from the get go.
There were TONS of people complaining of it at first.
OS updates have since helped but seems they're still not ideal.
From my experience with them. They are good enough now but could be a lot better.

13". I actually carry the thin around, so I need the smaller version. Previous time, my 2013 13" MBP was maxed up (16GB or RAM and processor upgrade), so I didn't have this problem. But I can't believe the **** hardware you get for the upper (but not maxed out) 13" 2016 machine (in other words, an early 2015 2,9 GHz Intel Core i5 with DDR3).
Ridiculous.

Seriously!? That phone literally has all lower specs then the iPhone 6s which was released 6mo prior. It was so pathetic that Apple spent more time showcasing bands! It's pretty evident that they can easily hold an October event to showcase Macs.
I'm not disagreeing at all. Apple has more than enough for an event and I'm really hoping they do. But they still had something iPhone realated at the march event regardless.

Man this screen is just gorgeous.
wow, pretty cool actually. between this and the Razer Stealth Blade, the piece of **** I'm writing on is really giving me regrets about leaving Windows ... 10 years ago ! Well, not really, Windows is awful, but damn it makes me want to get over the awfulness of the OS just to get again some power...

I am a bit tired of waiting too, but have also realised the pro is not a 'pro' machine and is not capable of easily doing what I need it to do. So it will be a desktop for me for heavy work and a less powerful laptop for email, web etc.
It wont be much faster than they are now as the chips aren't there to make it happen, so my bets are on the sale of the features like slimmer, lighter, better battery life and look at the shiny lights of the OLED. All good for me for what I want it for, but you may unfortunately be disappointed, I feel.
