Doesn't seem likely that Mac Mini or Mac Pro will continue to exist. What would be really cool is a widescreen iMac 21:9 aspect ratio. With some apple magic that can actually make AMD Polaris function nearly as well as the latest Nvidia tech. If they could power a 5k monitor inexplicably, surely they can work magic with AMD?
I am torn between the new Macbook Pro, or iMac, or maybe even getting another Macbook Air which I use now and frankly love the weight and mobility of the thing. Macbook Pro could get smaller and more portable, especially the 13" size, there is a good chance Macbook Air would cease to exist but probably not this year, is that what people are thinking?

I still think it'd be really cool if they had a 17" ultra-portable/thin iMac. It's not something you'd move terribly often, but if you had to slip it into a backpack and travel with it for a business trip or something, it'd be easier than the current models.

You want to slip an iMac into a backpack?

They just recently discontinued the 17"mbp because it wasn't a big seller. Why do you think they would make a 17" compromise of iMac and mbp? I wish they would bring back the 27"mbp but I see no chance. This would be a pro device and apple doesn't make those.

Guys we just earned ourselves an nvidia GT 1040. Look at the page count.

Although looking at the specs maybe "punished" is the right word rather than "earned". Let's go for 1050!

Yes, I only see a MP update happening if they give it a redesign. Perhaps nobody wanted a trash can with a nest of wires, so they're going back to PCI slots. I don't think it's likely but it'd explain the lack of updates.
I'll take a simple press release followed by the immediately availability of the new MBP on Apples website. Let me educate myself instead of being tortured by Phil.

you know, it's possible apple is holding onto a lot of things to make a hug splash at their new campus auditorium, the one currently under construction.

Make the first event held there, releasing updates to their entire product line

never know

If Apple can talk for an hour about new emojis, they can fill a whole keynote with new MBPs, Apple TVs, etc

If Apple wanted to impress us they could have a very long keynote:

Mac Mini
Mac Pro
21" iMac
Kaby Lake MBA
Skylake MBPs
New ultra-expensive keyboard to bring Touch Bar support to desktops

But even if only laptops are ready, Apple has a gift of extending keynotes when they want/need to--just have a bunch of third parties demo stuff. With the new touchbar it would be easy--just have Adobe come on stage and demo their touchbar support with Photoshop.

That said, they could easily not hold a keynote and just hold something for the media. Apparently Apple told John Gruber last year that they wanted to move away from October events, but that was probably before these Intel delays...

They could update it next month to skylake. or to kabylake if they decide to stop using the ones with iris graphics.

but they are probably going to continue to use iris graphics so they will probably wait until q2 2017 to update to kaby lake

maybe at the time, I am not sure. but there is a skylake version available now and has been for quite some time. Of what it used in the 21.5"

Also there are plenty of things that will happen at the mac event:

Macbook Pros 13" and 15" - BIG
other mac laptop update possible new air, or 13" rMB.
Mac Mine Update
21.5" iMac Update
external 5k display.
external tb3 display with built in graphics.
new apple keyboard with the oled touch bar.
Talk about apple apps using the oled touch bar
talk about 3rd party apps that use the oled touch bar
re-highlight airpods

unlikely:
apple tv update
iPad updates

Yes.

Though I don't think a Mac Pro would happen, unless apple released a broadwell Mac Pro? or didn't update the CPU
and kabylake CPUs suitable for MacBook air are not ready. won't be until like march 2017

I admire our optimism but honestly why would they wait so long to update the mini if they had any intention of keeping it going? You could probability say the same about the Mac Pro aswell but maybe that will see a spec bump.

I doubt they sell enough Mac Mini/Mac Pros to even bother.

Other than the MBP I can't see there being any significant upgrades to any of the other Macs.

People thinking there is going to be some big keynote. Going to be sooo disappointed, would be the shortest Apple Keynote ever..
[doublepost=1474991259][/doublepost]

If i recall correctly there was no Skylake variant of the chip used in the 21.5 inch.

It'll be no different then the March event. Except for the fact that they'll be showing devices that people are actually asking for.

As of 10.12.1 Beta 1, RX 470/480 work great inside a tower Mac Pro and eGPU for Mac laptops with Thunderbolt.

So you didn't have to flash bios or anything? I know that's an nvidia thing just wanted to get your experience. Plug and play for Polaris 10 and 11?

Are you able to get FileVault/boot screen on Egpu displays?

No vBios flash required. Plug and play will get you picture in macOS. To get full acceleration, you need to add PCI ID of the GPU to AMDRadeonX4100.kext.

They are generic cards so no boot screen. I have not tried FileVault but Recovery Boot works fine.

I am sure they are still significant enough sales. Mac Pro especially in the professional media market.

And the mac mini could be delayed because they are doing a major redesign. It could be shrink quite a bit more with a core M. Or they could be beefing it up with an Iris 580 Pro.
Eh doesn't seem too likely. I am not in the market for a mac mini. But it is their cheapest mac by a long ways. starting at only $499. It seems like an important part of the lineup to me.

I'm in the Twin Cities. Send me a PM and I'll help you with getting your AKiTiO to work with your MBP.

Hey I really appreciate that man. I did return it however, a few weeks after i bought it. Which was maybe half a year ago or longer.

There is more demand for Macs than iPhones?

the March event was about 9.7' iPad Pros

Sure, why not? They make all of their products thinner and lighter. I'm kind of interested if they'll bring the new design language to the iMacs, and whether they'll do a form factor change, or just new ports and colors.

I think we'll definitely see a new Magic Keyboard with the OLED strip.

Since when did they start releasing iPhones in March. Not only did the iPhone not get released, but there wasn't so much as a blurb about it. The event was literally about nothing but bands and the 9.7" iPad pro. If they can have an event for that, they most certainly can have an event for the Macs (almost all of which haven't been updated in over a year).

I had a bad dream tonight. The new rMBPs were presented, and had about 3 minutes of stage time. The 13" was a Macbook Air with a retina TN display (!) and 15 watts CPU. The 15" was even better. It had no ports at all, a Core M CPU, and a built in scanner(!!!!!). It was touted as the perfect iPad pro companion for scanning and OCRing all printed text. But, it came in that stylish red color from the limited Mac Pro.

Limited being the operative word
