What do you think of the recent rumours about Apple dropping Intel in favour of AMD Zen architectures in the future machines (2018 onward)? I'm not an expert, is it somewhat plausible in your opinion?

Saw this today, can everybody poke holes in its legitimacy before I get super freaking excited

"As the publication noted, Director for Tablet and Notebook PCs at IHS Markit Technology, Rhoda Alexander, claimed that production for the new Apple laptops have already started. This reportedly includes the 13.3-inch and 15.4-inch MacBook Pro 2016 and the 13.3-inch MacBook Air 2016.

Alexander also clarified that given the timelines, it would be highly unlikely that the new computers will have Intel's Kaby Lake chips. Given this, the new MacBook Pro and Air 2016 will most likely run on Skylake, the publication speculated.

Previous rumors have suggested that an October MacBook Pro and Air 2016 release date will also feature other new released from Apple. Some of the rumored products reportedly lined-up for the event are the new iMac desktop and a new standalone monitor."

Link? I'm glad the MBA rumors are continuing. And if I see one more person say the $1300, single port, bad webcam, low-powered, wonky keyboard MB is ready to replace the $900/1000 MBA, I'm going to scream. And don't say reporters are confusing a thinner MBP for an MBA. Gurman reported it himself, and there have been other consistent rumors.

You have to think about the parents walking into Apple with their kid who's about to go to college, people of all ages who are on a budget and don't need bells and whistles or ultra-portability. The entire world isn't quite ready to use iPads as their primary machine. Some people just want a simple Mac laptop that they can plug stuff into and type on comfortably.

I am on the brink switching to windows. I have got a 2008 MBPro with a broken screen a dying power supply.

Same. I'm on a 15" mid-2009 MBP that was pimped out at the time: matte screen, 2.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, 500GB, doubled the RAM to 16 Gb,... it's lasted me well but the Airport Card is broken (so no Wifi, tried using a wifi usb stick, didn't work.. Apple Store "Geniuses" are clueless), the display is separating from the case, the click on the trackpad doesn't work anymore, the battery needs servicing,... like, my computer is falling apart and I have been waiting since last year for the 15" MBPs to be updated.
I'm not paying upward of €3000 for outdated hardware. If they don't release in October I'm seriously considering buying a Razer Blade. Actually the more I look at it the more tempting it is... and I haven't used Windows in 10 years. But I feel like Apple are just being *******s at this point, and I'm really not impressed by where the company is heading. I grew up on a Macintosh and I'm just beyond disappointed now.

And it is a machine I would buy instantly if the screen was improved and the silver bezels lost. The screen is the big issue for me and am surprised people can deal with it now considering what is available.

I'm looking forward to the new macbooks but i swear if it loose's the SD card reader and all normal IO i'm just better off with the razer blade

screen bezels are not as important as the screen itself. Do you know of other laptops with better screens in term of quality and color accuracy??

edit: sorry I thought it was the MBP you meant not the air. MBA screen really need to be updated

I do consulting and use a MBP. I'm lucky in a sense in that my current project is scheduled to run through March 2017 and the company (i.e. Where the project is) has supplied us their own company laptops to use...necessary to access their system. So, since my mid-2012 15 RMBP was sitting idle until then (i.e. I don't use it for anything else), I decided to sell it....sold it just this week.

So I can wait Apple out for a decent update until next Spring if I have to. Or, choose to go to the dark side if the updates are lackluster!

Quite a lot Off-Topic, but I've just seen the SpaceX Interplanetary Transport System video and I'm still amazed by it.
What do you think will come first, Mars exploration or Skylake MacBook Pro?

was it the same one that exploded?

WRONG, cheack the film that they made it for the recent Rosetta Mission (Which went successful). I'm sure you will love it.

I am awaiting since months... when? When we can get the new Mac? It is impressive we are totally without any information.... October should be the month, right?

Regards,

As nice as the Razer looks, I could never swap back to Windows.
Firstly, I HATE it whenever I have to use it at work on to fix my Mum's laptop, and most importantly I've invested too much time and money into music software and hardware for my MBP and I have no urge to start again on a Windows machine.
I think if nothing new materialises within the next 6 months I'll have to bite the bullet and upgrade this 2011 machine.

Not sure I could live with that gimmicky rainbow keyboard either!

I'm tempted to try and scrape another $1000 together so I can get the base 15" model instead of the 13".

It's a different rocket. The one that exploded was a Falcon 9 which has had many successful missions before. SpaceX also has a planed rocket called the Falcon Heavy which is basically 3 Falcon 9 boosters strapped together. The one they talked about yesterday was a different rocket they are planning to launch in the mid 2020s. It'll be the worlds largest rocket with 42 engines and it can take 100 people to Mars at once. It's so big they even used to call the booster BFR (Big ****ing Rocket).

Edit: Hah, didn't know MR had censored words. I thought people wrote the **** intentionally. :D
