I totally agree. I was a hardened Windows/Dos fan since the mid 80's, I knew Windows inside out and kept a tight ship that was reliable and stable. Yet it still was a pain.
I made the leap two years ago with a 2011 MBP i7 2.0 and LOVE it.
I will NEVER go back to Windows now.
I bought 2nd hand because I wasn't sure if I would like it, but now I am 100% ready to buy the latest and greatest MBP and the cash is sat in my account ready!
Every day my mind wanders towards just buying one now, but I know I will regret it as soon as the new one appears (IF it appears?!)

Im in the same boat. I built PC's back in the DOS - Windows days. Ran a small side business doing this for 15+ years. When I switched to Apple in 2011 with the same MBP Im still using, I have never looked back. The only thing I miss is building my own rigs. I've thought about hackintosh alot - but at the end of the day, with my current needs Im comfortable paying the Apple hardware tax to have such good build quality, excellent OS (that still lets me tweak/tinker on the OS side).

I was the guy "Ask CaliKW he can fix / explain / do anything" for family, friends, friends of friends windows boxes. As my life got busier (company, wife, kids) it was just crazy the **** I was doing for people (for free). After a neighbour came knocking on my door for the 4th time in a week asking for help fixing malware **** his kids kept infecting the family computer with I said 'enough.' (Funny story, his screen was on a dialog box asking for credit card number to buy software to 'fix' the issue... he had his credit card out and ready to 'buy'... of course it was a scam). He was NOT happy when I stopped the (free) neighbourhood support services.

Then (and now), for anyone but family I just say "sorry - on MAC OS - don't know anything about windows anymore" -- and they leave me alone :) For those friends/family members that have gone APPLE, the only calls/emails I get are 'how can I do this' - rarely/never a 'something is broken.'

At work, we have a mix of windows / mac os for desktops, and windows server and linux for servers. I let the young guys sort out their own IT issues on the windows boxes...

Man this screen is just gorgeous.
Would have to look at in in person. I don't care about gorgeous (vibrant, contrasty whatever). The screen should display full sRGB or better, DCI P3 (or adobeRGB). (10bit colour would be awesome too)
Accurate colours are much more important than gorgeous colours.

Then again, the Yoga has nearly 100%AdobeRGB coverage (which is awesome) the problem is, that it's calibration s very bad and that there is no way to calibrate it at the moment (At least none that I am aware of)

We had 5 events in 2010 and 2012. I don't think 4 events will be a problem.

And the rMBP was introduced in 2012! So it must be happening!!!!

Coding is my job, but if you mean I've read the source code and compared it to Window, then of course not - and you know it.
But if you program, you probably understand what it means to interface with a really wide variety of hardwares, drivers, software layers, and retro-compatibility with old ****.
For Internet Explorer, it became so complicated than until v11 (or Edge, I can't remember), they had to include the previous engines of EACH IE since IE7. And also keep ActiveX ******** for a while.
Meanwhile FF, Chrome, Opera never had to deal with that.
Windows is on many levels the Internet Explorer of OSes.

MacOS has to be better coded because it doesn't have those concerns (or a fraction of them). That's for one.

For second, and I already explained you : Linux & Open Source world. It's like telling me "how can you say this car is better" while I'm talking about a reputable brand vs a brand that usually makes crappy cars and accessories, and generally works but doesn't perform very well. Yeah maybe the reputable brand can screw up, but more likely, not.

Third : Have we been living in the same world ? If you can't see that MacOs is more stable than literally EVERY version of Windows so far, I'm not sure what else to say. Whether you're talking plain crashes or error messages, for one I meet on MacOS, I have ...50 ? 100? on Windows. It gets better with recent versions but it's STILL crap.

I'm no Apple fanboy. I'm not a fan of the attitude, the people, the hype. If I could, I'd leave this behind.
But for working, this is the best compromise between performance, stability, and nice UI and software.
As stated, hardware on MBP is overpriced garbage, though.

Out of the box macOS is more stable then Windows. But with a bit of effort, Windows can be just as stable. I've got a couple Windows VMs that haven't given me issues since I built them years ago (one of which I just copied from my old Mac onto my current one without doing anything else). I've got co-workers that are running ThinkPad T400s that are older then my 2012 rMBP running Windows 7 without issue. And they have a TON of apps installed. I think the biggest issues with Windows is security and UAC doesn't do enough to prevent people that don't know what they're doing from just clicking yes and installing god knows what.

To prove the point, I gave an old T400 that I had from work to my daughter. Wiped it clean (just for company security purposes) and installed Win7. I set myself an Admin account and created a standard account for her. She's been using it for two years with no problem and literally haven't logged into my account since it was built. She's 10yo btw.

This! Macs are just so much better for the computer illiterate. I'm in the same exact situation as you. I tell people I'm on a Mac now and they leave me alone. God, I'm terrified if any of them found out that I use Windows at work (or that I have windows running on said Mac lol).

BTW, I extended that policy to family too lol. I use it as an opportunity to persuade them to look into a Mac (refurb/used if it's out of their budget).

Right but the past is no particular indication of the future. A few well connected folk were told last year that they didn't want to do an October event in future.

Given that there is seemingly no appetite to hold another event so soon after the iPhone announcement and that these events cost money and involve a lot of planning why would they bother booking venues like Moscone or Bill Graham which are huge venues for something that won't generate a fraction of the interest that an iPhone announcement does?

Could they do a smaller announcement on the Cupertino campus like the March event? Maybe, but Tim Cook seemed to suggest that the March event was the last time the Town Hall venue would be used before they moved to the new campus

But back then they probably expected to get the new MBPs out before now! In any case they don't have to have an event, just private press briefings would be sufficient.

Well that is true. Things could've changed since then, whatever the case I think that if we are actually going to see an event, and I have my doubts, it will be at a smaller venue like town hall because there just isn't the interest in Macs to warrant a bigger venue like Moscone or Bill Graham.

I had a quick browse last week on the sites of a few of the venues that they have used in the past. Moscone seems very busy through October particularly the second half which would probably rule it out. One option could be the Flint Center in Cupertino they have used that venue several times before.

I am not smart at chips like you guys so I look for your knowlege on this question..

I will be editing 4k video, maybe 3 layers..(I know it all depend of codec and bit rates and other stuff)..I am tired to be attach to my desktop so I wanted this this MBP for mobility. Someone suggested it wont be enough for editing 4k and that I should get the 5k iMac...

what do you think in terms of power will the new MBP do against the 5k iMac?

I believe skylake MBP should be fine doing this, but I will like your opinion.

this is info on iMac I was thinking.
  • 3.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor
  • Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
  • 8GB (two 4GB) memory, configurable up to 32GB
  • 1TB hard drive1
  • AMD Radeon R9 M380 with 2GB video memory
  • Retina 5K 5120-by-2880 P3 display

I have that one. It's great. Using an iPad Pro for mobility (and it sucks for what I need it for) and using the Mac at home. Waiting for the 15" new MacBook Pro.

People have even manged to edit 4K Video on Core-M processors, without issues (just slower, understandably). I have no reason to doubt that a MBP (or even the new MBA) would be up to the task. As fast as a desktop? Obviously not, but that is like asking "Can a bicycle be as fast as a Ferrari".

What AMD dGPUs are we expecting to be in this year's refresh, again? I think I asked a few pages back...

Custom AMD is the expectation, although rumours (http://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...s-suggest-an-nvidia-chip-return-to-apple-macs) were around of Nvidia looking to hire people for Apple GPU Drivers - although for what I don't know.

"Nvidia, in a job ad for a software engineer, said a successful applicant will “help produce the next revolutionary Apple products.” The role would require “working in partnership with Apple” and writing code that will “define and shape the future”’ of graphics-related software on Macs."

thanks..this is what I thought...of course I know it wont be as fast as a desktop...but just wanted to make sure it was fast enough.

thanks a lot. I wonder how much difference will be to compare both..

That being side, I can no longer justify a MBP purchase, even with Skylake and Polaris. Apple's competitors are making thin, small, super-powerful laptops. They aren't perfect, but they are a better deal for me in my situation. My 2011 MBP 15" is the best computer I've ever had. Unless Apple pulls a rabbit out of a hat, it's also going to be my last Mac. And that doesn't make me happy. :(

Stop lying! If Apple releases a new MBP 15" this year, you will still throw money at it. You're not fooling anyone, not even yourself. :apple: :)

I know you weren't addressing me but: Why are you so sure ?
If it's a weak machine, I know I'll pass.

I need to be able to work efficiently. I'm not in some sort of nerd fantasy where saying "I'll pass" in a forum (even alongside others) would influence Apple's executives who, as we know, have all the time in the world to dwell on this 1048 pages long thread.
Too many great options out there for fantastic Ultrabooks. Only issue is Windows, which has been discussed long and large. At least the Razer Stealth Blade + Razer core would also have the advantage of replacing my gaming PC.

I am going to assume our future will be eGPU support for both AMD and NVIDIA. Think about it. Lots of eGPUs are now working plug and play. Incorporation of (potentially) Thunderbolt 3. So that is why we saw that software related post. Building software for control for NVIDIA eGPUs.

That makes sense to me anyway.

The reason I remembered my dream that clearly is that there was a time when I tried to have lucid dreams. The best way to go from a normal dream to a lucid dream is to recognize that you are dreaming inside the dream so it is important to know what your dreams usually look like. I took notes of every dream I had when I woke up during a few months time and I discovered that I had some really weird ones. Too bad the March event dream that I had was not a lucid dream. I would have made Tim Cook do whatever I wanted on scene. :p

I used to do the same thing, trying to gain awareness of being in a dream and then controlling some factors. But after doing that for around an year, my dreams became absolutely uncontrollable. Infact i wasnt even aware after waking up that i dreamt of something, let alone remembering the content of the dream. Its like my dreams became sentient and got infuriated with me controlling them, thus stepped up their game to a whole new level. Now they taunting me to try and control them now

The job offer in question was floating around LinkedIn for over last 12 months. Nothing new really here.

RX M480 - 1024 GCN core design, 4 GB of VRAM, over 2 TFLOPs of compute power.

I highly doubt Apple will do X ternal GPUs. They would not fit into apples user experience philosophy, granted Apple already has dongles.

Hardware on Macs is way out-of-date hardware. Mac hardware is premium/high-end and expensive, but certainly not overpriced, most of the time better value. mac product lines go in cycles, just like computer products from every company. at the end of a cycle, they are quite of date, and sure overpriced because they are out of date, and have not been updated. You can't expect a company to keep every product line up to date always.

That being said, this particular MacBook pro product cycle / all macs currently. Is a bit ridiculous and unacceptable. and I like many people, are very upset about it.

Trackpad for me!

This is a very big deal. People tend to ignore this, I am not sure why.
But trackpad is one of the biggest draws for me to MacBooks / OS X over other PC/windows offerings

Maybe they will release 5k TB3 displays with external graphics built in to the display. I feel they could be showing this at their mac keynote
