I'm dismayed that you'd pass on a new MacBook Pro because you can't remove the SSD.
Yeah, with the rise of tablets and big phones, seems like Apple is turning its back on the good old days of upgradability and saying "Don't touch the box!" Simple strategy is to just order the max when you buy. Will miss, tho, skimming through the catalog of Other World Computing...

Was just in an Apple Store getting my iPhone home button fixed. While waiting, I chatted to a staff about the MBP and her response was that they believe release date is next march as an anniversary model.

Hope she was BSting.

**** it, itll come when it comes. I dont even a give a **** anymore, all that excitement I've had for the past 1.5 years has been killed by Apple.

Yup, internal upgradability being the norm in the industry is way, way past. I can understand people running gaming rigs, workstations and towers to be able to swap components, but for portable devices the train has already left the station.

Best to do as you say and buy a spec that'll do for the next 4 years, and rely on external expansion for the rest. And, might I say, the external expansion options nowdays are excellent- Drives / Interfaces / and soon to be eGPU's.

It also helps that the RAM race has slowed way down, and internal storage needs are also going down as peoples data is migrating to the cloud, such as with their music and photo libraries.

I still order through OWC occasionally, heh. Whenever I set up a new Mac Pro for work I go there to grab RAM, Thunderbolt enclosures, and perhaps hard drives when its cheaper than Amazon at the time. Tax free from CA helps.

Today we hit 500 days without any sign of release. We shoudl do something to cwlebrate that beautifully amazing fact.

And you're posting this with an Android phone? You're not allowed to celebrate, sorry. Door is > that way.

Yea, the screenshot is taken on 2K SuperAmoled screen :). Won't start the android vs iphone argument. Since I develop for Android, there is no way i see myself using an iPhone right now.
I will just sit in the corner and watxh you guys celebrate then.

So... what do you guys think are the chances new colors are introduced? I mean, yeah, it might seem tacky to provide a rose gold rMBP, but every other Apple device has colors. The leaked chassis which is the only visible leak we all got is of...a silver body.

Apple has been setting the trend for the last 7-8 years. We were outraged when:

Removed Flash,
Non-removable battery,
No expansion slots,
Removed CD drive,
Removed headphone port,
Non-upgradeable memory,
Etc. etc.

Then, years later, the industry follows.

dammit. the other day someone said the staff member said they were coming out in october, and so i wanted to believe that staff member. now this staff member says march, and i dont wanna believe her. who do i trust??

If you want to feel a good haptic feedback the TouchID should be close to the trackpad right? thoughts?
I'm hoping they will put a taptic engine in the touch bar. They could go all the way and put the TouchID sensor behind the OLED and show some cool fingerprint animation on the screen when the fingerprint is needed.

You mean that "1440p" PenTile display that has only 1.2 million more subpixels than the 1080p RGB iPhone Plus while wasting GPU computations just to render all the pixels in a 1440p display? ;);)

Give it up, it's not happening. The Air is a dead man walking. I seriously doubt the rumor that it's getting refreshed again after they bumped the RAM for one last lap. It doesn't fit in the lineup, especially the name. MB is the new Air.
I have no problem with the MacBook replacing the air. It would make sense eventually. As long as it's as capable and has a larger screen size on offer. That is not the case now.
I wouldn't be surprised either way. Frustrated with how pathetic apple is though. Yes.
I'm glad MacBooks are all I have a stake in. Maybe not even that soon.

I'm curious.

What is with all the intense focus on GPU's in this thread.
I got the 2015 model because the CPU improvements are to small to justify delaying several recording gigs (10-15%). I always carry the charger so battery is of less importance. I just Wanted a mobile iMac.(ProTools, FCP, python and Xcode)

But it seems like everyone still waiting is justifying it with a need for a (probably) much improved gpu, both i- and d-. What is everybody doing that is so gpu taxing?

The 370mx is already so optimised in FCP that it crushes "better" gpu's on Windows with premiere, renderingwise.

I just want to understand the massive focus here.

Side note, I've NEVER tried a better keyboard, desktop or laptop, than this one. Loving it.

I'm looking at upgrading my 2011 15" to a Retina macbook Pro but I can postpone this a bit because it's still "working" (aside from: high-temps, loss of wi-fi/bluetooth now and then, unreliable usb port and sd-card reader). I'm looking at an ivestment that will last me around 4-5 years, looking ahead I can see that USB-C will replace a majority of USB-A ported cables and the difference between the "old generation" GPUs and the upcoming generation is like night and day when you compare performance, I've seen a GTX 1060 run a game at 75 Watts while a 980 runs at nearly double that with the same framerates.
