@ArchimeZix Are you still keeping track of all the dreams posted here? :D

Here.. updated list

next time, if somebody planing to send email to Tim please attach these to the email !!

I had a dream last night that Tim Cook introduced the new MBPs. They were white (ceramic?) but thicker than the current version. Turned out it was thicker because they added the DVD drive back! Upon closer inspection, it wasn't even slot based...it was a tray loader!

Then the laptop got thicker again (dreams don't make sense) and beside the CD tray was a 3.5" floppy drive. At this point we realized Tim was trolling us and I woke up before he unveiled the actual version.

Damn even I had a dream about the new Macbooks last night. But it was more a nightmare, because in my dream they announced this october that the new MBP's will be available October 2017. I should visit this site less...

I had a dream about the keynote yesterday. It was so weird that I wrote it down to remember it and I just had to share it in this thread.

The first thing that I remember from my dream was that I missed the first part of the keynote. As I opened the live stream, I was very annoyed with myself because I forgot to watch it from the start.

The first thing I saw was Tim Cook talking about MacBooks. I was surprised because I didn't think they were going to update the MacBooks at this event. He said the new MacBooks had the new 6th gen Intel processors. Tim said they were updating the 15 inch, and introducing a new 16 inch MacBook Pro. Then he went backstage to get the new MBP and he held it with one hand to show it while everyone were applauding.

It was the same silver aluminum as the current MacBooks but it was very thick, at least 5 times thicker than a rMBP. I thought it was attached to a dock because the bottom part was bigger and wider than the upper part with a line going through the middle. It had a tapered design, just like the MBA. I remember I was kind of disappointed because I wanted it to be thinner and have a sleeker design.

Somehow I was standing there at the event and watching this from behind, in the audience (not on live stream) but I didn't think much about it. Tim passed the MBP on to the audience and then I saw a big, round power button with the standby symbol on it. The button was very big. It was placed in the top right corner of the trackpad covering up a big part of it. The first guy who got to see it pressed the button and the screen turned on. He then passed the MBP to the next guy and then I started to see fire coming from the keyboard but no one seemed to notice or care about it. The fire caught up and it started to burn a lot.

Someone put the MBP on the ground and then I looked at it from a closer view. I saw the fire was just burning a tape that was holding a cardboard like material in place. The fire stopped and someone took out the cardboard and suddenly there was a very big hole in the place of the keyboard and trackpad. In fact the whole MacBook was now a very large screen attached to a big empty box. It was so large I think it was close to a 40 inch TV in size and the box was at least 30 cm deep. I thought the screen was very bad quality, it looked like it had uneven backlighting (it was colored bright blue) but I remember I was thinking it had to be a 5k screen.

Then Tim came down in person and showed that the hardware was just a very thin part in the bottom of the box. The components were all colored in black. Then I started thinking why it was so big and why most of it was empty space and I wanted to ask but I just woke up and I was suddenly lying in bed staring at nothing and thinking about the madness I was dreaming about.

Maybe I've waited for too long...

I had a dream where I bought an iMac. And i liked it.

I had a dream last night that I bought a 12" MacBook and that it was overheating and super slow and I was furious with it

For what it's worth, I had a MBP dream last night. I think it was announced via press release, but it did come with a design video. Screen sizes were increased slightly.

Man, I actually had a dream about buying the new rMBP.

I had a dream last night I checked the apple site and it was down like it normally is before they update it with new products.

I had a nightmare last night. The new MacBook pros where finally released and where available to my local retailer. I got there but there was a huge discount on the 2015 model and I ended up buying the model which I avoided for almost a year!
Still crying

I had a bad dream tonight. The new rMBPs were presented, and had about 3 minutes of stage time. The 13" was a Macbook Air with a retina TN display (!) and 15 watts CPU. The 15" was even better. It had no ports at all, a Core M CPU, and a built in scanner(!!!!!). It was touted as the perfect iPad pro companion for scanning and OCRing all printed text. But, it came in that stylish red color from the limited Mac Pro.

Any chance of Apple doing a 17" MBP with Retina or 5K display in the next iteration? It's an insane amount of money for a laptop, but it makes more sense than their little trash bin.

No chance at all for both.
At least, I'm 100% sure for the 17", but I won't bet for a 5K in the next future. IIRC the actual display is not even 4K...

Moderator Note.

...or we'll shut the thread down.

Please don't

I also don't think we will see a 17" rMBP. But it would be cool to see a resolution bump to the new 13" and 15" rMBP. At least Apple should up the resolution to 1650x1080. A 4k Screen would be even better.

At the end of the earnings call, Tim could say... "one more thing... We released a few updates to the macs... Please check out our website. Have a nice day!"

This exactly.

I mean, how embarrassing must it be for the CEO of a hardware company to go on stage and admit that the company hasn't been doing their job?
He won't admit that they're selling old hardware at top prices.
He won't admit that they've forgotten to update their lineup of computers (most of them at least).
He won't admit that the management has made *wrong* decisions to wait for *lake processors instead of using e.g. Broadwell in the current rMBP 15".
He won't admit that they could have considered using a different processor with a dGPU.
He just won't.
And to be honest - how stupid would that look if you need to spend at least half an hour finding excuses for all of the mistakes with millions of people listening all over the world? They have bad press already.

So the easiest way to avoid all of the embarrassment would be to do what Sam Luis said:
No event. Just a silent update with ??? (<- your guess here)

But if they do an event then I'm sure they won't mention any of the embarrassments at all. They'll just act as if they had a top lineup which is becoming even more "awesome" and "incredible" and "..."
The only thing I believe someone like Tim would say is somewhere along the lines of "I know a lot of you have really been waiting for this..." So if there was an event, the invitation could use "The wait is over...". That would honour all of the people on this thread :)

Thank god for that.

Don't think a 17 inch pro is a possibility, if anything I think they will scale down the Mac line up. I could see it being scaled back to iMacs for the desktop option and MacBook and MacBook Pro for notebooks. We're yet to hear anything credible about the Mac Pro or the Mini, it doesnt look good for them.

Why would releasing new Macbooks at an event mean an admission of any of those things? Sorry that doesn't make sense.

The Air seems like it will be updated.

Also, they'll never remove the Mac Pro after the complete redesign they had just a couple of years ago.

Mac Mini is tricky. Removing it would be a bold move by Apple, since the first personal computer of the company would cost 3500$+
On the other hand remaining it there as it is would also be embarrassing considering it's been the same for like 5 years or more. BUT updating it means doing research and everything for a product that doesn't sell that much (just speculating, don't have the right data but I'm sure, at least by apple standard it doesn't sell that much)

In the end whatever they do with it, will be interesting to me.

Yes it does look like the Air is getting a bump, but its a stay of execution until they can get the MacBook down to a price point which replaces it I think.

I agree on the Mac Mini/Mac Pro, I doubt they move many units of those machines. I seem to remember Marco Arment (i think?!) taking about this on the Accidental Tech Podcast and he was saying that he had heard from somebody well connected that the iMacs and in particular the Mac notebooks are the biggest sellers of the lineup by a distance.

You also have to bear in mind that the trashcan Mac Pro probably began development under the last days of Steve Jobs, can we expect Tim Cooks Apple to dedicate much resource to a product like that, particularly if it isn't a big seller? Not so sure myself.

"Mac sales were down, likely due to the clear increase in the interest of our tremendous new iPad Pro models for personal computing uses".

lol this would send so many of us into some mental breakdown.
We would write history.

I was thinking the same. I wouldn't want that on my hands. If the thread had stayed on topic we would have run out of things to talk about a long time ago. I for one don't mind the little wander off the path now and then - at least it keeps me coming back, this and my addiction to the thread that looks like it may well end this month.

Its ok though, I have some new obsessions already lined up once these new Kabylake 17" OLED 32gb ram 2tb ssd MacBooks get released .

My son would certainly agree with this as he does most of his computing needs on his iPhone 6s. He absolutely doesn't understand my frustration with Apple's current Mac product line (or the neglect of it).

I think the Macbook's key feature is silent operation at a small foot print - the Air can bridge the gap between this and the macbook pro's in my opinion (especially with 15w processors). The Air can be different enough to the 13 inch rMBP and the 12" MB, to stay relevant as a product.

rMBP 15 - 7/10 portability, 10/10 processing power, 45w processor, OLED bar.
rMBP 13 - 8/10 portability, 8/10 processing power, 28w processor, OLED bar.
MB Air 13 - 9/10 portability, 6/10 processing power, 15w processor, no OLED bar.
MB 12" - 10/10 portability, 4/10 processing power, 4.5w processor, no OLED bar.

Yes no maybe?

it just needs a bit of modernising in appearance I reckon and you are right it does sit nicely between the MacBooks and pro machines in terms of power.
if it just gets a spec bump I don't expect it to last much longer.

I don't think they'll replace the Mac Pro's also because of the margin they can get on them. I'm pretty sure it's Apple's biggest margin per piece product. Prices are really astronomical, so an equal percentage of margin will net more on the Pros. That's another reason I don't think they're gonna replace them. Practically, they don't *need to* sell a lot.
